21. Will and Grace

When it first premiered, Will & Grace was truly groundbreaking television, especially for the LGBTQ community. A lot has changed since them, generally progressing for the better, so there might not be quite as many headlines, but this is still “must see TV.” The characters that captured audiences’ hearts for decades are still every bit themselves.

At the same time, there are moments of depth and maturity to show that they have grown and aren’t afraid to take on the challenges of a new world. Whether you watched from the start or are being introduced to the show through the revival, it continues to deliver every week.

22. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

If you’ve watched any award show in 2018, you’ve now heard of The Marvelous Mrs. MaiselThe series has been nominated for tons of awards and as the next awards season approaches, that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

Amy Sherman-Palladino’s Amazon series is smart, funny, and scratches the itch for both strong, female-centric shows and period pieces, which carves out a niche in today’s ever-crowded landscape.

23. Big Mouth

Big Mouth

At first glance, Big Mouth seems like it could be an excuse to let Nick Kroll and John Mulaney show off their raunchy sides in an animated series. While some of that does take place, Big Mouth turns out to be so much more.

Big Mouth uses the animated format to explore puberty for boys and girls in an absurd-yet-true-to-life way. Thinking back, we can all relate to a time when the Hormone Monster can be friend or foe depending on the day, or our friends of the opposite sex change right before our eyes.

Mulaney and Kroll’s series reminds us where we were years ago in a funny, relatable, absurd way.

24. On My Block

On My Block

Netflix’s On My Block was recently named the most binge watched show on Netflix in 2018. It’s not hard to see why, either. A diverse and relatable adventure into urban life, On My Block is a winner in representation and a winner with heart.

Lucky for us, thanks to word of mouth, On My Block was picked up for a second season, so perhaps you can look for it on 2019’s list!

25. The Ranch

The Ranch

The departure of Danny Masterson left an unexpected hole in the cast of The Ranch. But what started as a loss of a show’s funniest character turned into an opportunity for the show to take a hard left turn into exploring the death of a character.

The Ranch‘s ability to seamlessly switch between the comedic and dramatic makes it a powerhouse show. It could pass for a drama, too, but thanks to the antics of Ashton Kutcher, we’ll stick to this classification for now.

26. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Now in its final season, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend continues to tell a meaningful, relevant story while giving us plenty of reasons to laugh — and to sing along.

The musical comedy series stars Rachel Bloom (also co-creator of the series) as Rebecca Bunch, who is now focused on her journey to be a better person while also battling problems with mental health. It’s a series that’s as funny as it is important.

27. Grace and Frankie

Two best friends who wouldn’t have chosen each other on their own are now more important to one another than other on the smart, funny, and endearing Netflix comedy series Grace and Frankie.

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin play friends Grace and Frankie, two polar opposites who come together when their husbands leave them for each other.

The two women learn to move forward while leaning on each other and even developing their own business together — a business that focuses on vibrators for older women. We could go on and on with more reasons to watch this hilarious comedy, but we’ll just suggest you watch it for your next binge instead.
