Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’s Trailer Teases the Epic Romance That Started It All

Bridgerton, News

A Queen rises and romance blossoms in the trailer for Netflix’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

The prequel series “tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton,” per Netflix’s synopsis.

TV Line reports that the six-episode Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story premieres on the streaming service on Thursday, May 4.

Netflix shares that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story centers “on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power,” while Deadline confirms the trailer teases “that drama, love, and frustration lie ahead.”

The two-minute trailer expands the spin-off series beyond the initial clip Netflix exclusively unveiled at its TUDUM event last year.

India Ria Amarteifio’s younger Charlotte questions why the Royal Family wants her to marry the King, and Michelle Fairley’s Princess Augusta quickly fills in the gaps by saying, “It is time we were united as a society,” and telling Charlotte that she is meant to produce as many heirs as possible.

Cue Charlotte’s escape plan that leads to her meet-cute with Corey Mylchreest’s younger King George, where he breaks the ice further by saying, “To you, I am George.”

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story‘s trailer teases Charlotte and George’s enemies-t0-lovers romance with lines like, “I realize you have no reason to like me but if you spend an evening with me, it might make you hate me less.” It also sees Charlotte learn what being the Queen means for her — and their society.

As the footage fills in the Bridgerton universe’s history, familiar faces arrive like Arsema Thomas as a younger Lady Danbury, who joins Queen Charlotte’s court, and Sam Clemmett as a younger Brimsley. While Thomas is a series regular, Clemmett will appear in a guest appearance.

Golda Rosheuvel will reprise her Bridgerton role as Queen Charlotte, along with Adjoa Andoh as Lady Agatha Danbury, Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton, and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley. The trailer also features James Fleet’s return as King George.

TV Line reports that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story‘s cast also includes Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, and Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury.

Shonda Rhimes is the showrunner and writer of the limited series. Rhimes executive produces the project with Betsy Beers, and Tom Verica directs all six episodes.
