Hijack Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Brace Brace Brace

Reviews

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, this series being covered here wouldn’t exist.

Hijack Season 1 Episode 7, “Brace Brace Brace,” wraps up a thrilling season with a surprisingly emotional finale. As is the case with the majority of the season, there are still areas where the finale could have improved, mainly regarding the hijackers, but it does a better job than expected.

“Brace Brace Brace” manages to evoke emotion as we watch the plane prepare for a rough landing. For a series that really hasn’t delivered emotional moments anywhere else, it’s impressive and unexpected that the finale is able to bring people (at least me) to tears.

This accomplishment speaks to how well-crafted these scenes are.

Hijack Season 1 Episode 7 does wrap up some lingering mysteries as well, such as explaining the significance of the passenger who was late and brought on the bag that had the hijacker’s weapons.

Unfortunately, the reason for the hijacker’s organization wanting money is not fully explained. The (now dead) leader, Edgar, mentions that it isn’t just about paying people off, but we don’t learn any further details.

It’s frustrating to get a tiny snippet of information that doesn’t come close to answering any of the questions we have. For instance, we also don’t know why the hijacker’s organization picked that airline or that specific flight.

As stated in previous reviews, it would have been nice to dive further into the organization and learn about their motives, how they operate, and the various people who work for them. Instead, Hijack expects us to be okay with the morsels of information we are given.

Oh, and one leader killed Edgar for no reason and is presumably still running free. We’re led to believe that Edgar is killed sooner than expected because he wasn’t giving the signal to land the plane, but after killing him, the surviving leader makes no move to grab the phone and tell Amanda to land the plane…

But okay, let’s just move on past that too. Instead, let’s focus on a random (and pointless) final showdown between Sam and a hijacker.

All in all, Hijack is an okay series.

As long as you are okay with not knowing much of anything about the larger picture, the series will keep you on the edge of your seat. The beginning and end of the series are its strongest with the story feeling too drawn out in the middle.

But, there are worse shows out there.

Stray Thoughts
  • Kai slipping up and getting caught by the hitmen is so frustrating.
  • I like that we see just how good of a guy Daniel is throughout the series.
  • It would have been easy for the show to make him a bad guy since he’s seeing Marsha.
  • While on the topic of Marsha, we still really didn’t need to follow her around.
  • Sam hanging up on Alice is so funny; he has important things to do!
  • Zahra suspecting Sam did need to happen since he’s been so involved, and I like that Daniel instantly shuts her down.
