Warrior Season 3

Warrior Canceled at Max After Three Seasons

News, Warrior

Warrior has been canceled (again) after three seasons overall and one season as a Max Original series.

Deadline exclusively reported the cancellation with the news that the drama’s three existing seasons will stream on Netflix “in a co-exclusive deal with Max in Warner Bros. Discovery streamer’s markets.” The Hollywood Reporter reiterates that Warrior will also remain on Max to stream.

Those seasons of Warrior are expected to debut on the streaming service in February 2024. Deadline’s report includes the possibility of another season on the show’s new streaming home if the prior seasons perform well.

Created and executive produced by Jonathan Trooper and based on an original concept by Bruce Lee, Warrior debuted as a Cinemax original series with a 10-episode season in June 2019 and was set during the Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th century.

Its sophomore season kicked off with Warrior Season 2 Episode 1, “Learn to Endure, or Hire a Bodyguard,” in October 2020, with the final episode airing in December 2020.

The Hollywood Reporter shares that “Cinemax had wound down its originals business” when its second season aired.

The then HBO Max (now Max) renewed Warrior for a third season in April 2021. Season 3 had a three-episode premiere in June 2023, with its season finale — and now series finale — streaming in August.

Warrior introduced viewers to a distinct world from the past, executed with dynamic action and relevant storytelling, with a brilliant cast led by Andrew Koji,” Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer, HBO and HBO Max, said upon its revival in 2021.

“We can’t wait to see what Jonathan, Justin, and Shannon will bring to the next chapter of this series on HBO Max,” Bloys added.

Warrior is a show that simply refuses to die. Through platform and regime changes, the writers, producers, cast, crew, and our stunt team continued to make something powerful, relevant, and wildly unique,” Jonathan Trooper shared in a statement exclusive to Deadline.

“And now, thanks to Netflix, we’ve been given yet another lease on life, and I’m thrilled for everyone involved that millions more viewers around the world will discover it,” Trooper added.

“If anything can be said about Warrior, with Bruce Lee in our corner, our indomitable spirit is REAL! And so, my wish is that the huge global Netflix audience LOVES Warrior and from that Love more goodness flows – in the form of greater recognition for our talented cast and crew who deserve all the things, in the form of passionate fandom for this relevant kick ass show and, if I dare to dream, in the form of an opportunity to continue our story for our amazing fans who, thanks to Netflix, will have grown in number and enthusiasm!”

Warrior stars Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Langley Kirkwood, Perry Yung, Joe Taslim, Dustin Nguyen, Miranda Raison, Chen Tang, Chelsea Muirhead, Mark Dacascos, and Adam Rayne.
