La Brea Season 3 Episode 4 Review: Fire Storm

La Brea, Reviews

La Brea Season 3 Episode 4, “Fire Storm,” introduces new threats to the village and clearing people, who must work together to keep everyone safe.

If we believed the firestorm was going to be the only threat, the episode proves us wrong. Maya shows her true colors, and now Scott’s life is in danger.

Will he survive? What else could possibly go wrong on La Brea before its end?

From the very beginning, La Brea has always been about family. Whether it was blood family like Gavin looking for his wife and son and Sam and Riley falling through the sinkhole together or chosen family like Scott, Lucas, and Veronica.

No matter the dangers and challenges they have faced, the clearing people have always relied on one another to survive. They have been there to save one another time and time again.

However, the family can’t always be trusted. Gavin had issues trusting his father, and on La Brea Season 3 Episode 4, “Fire Storm,” he must decide whether he trusts his half-sister or Ty. Does the blood family beat the chosen family?

This mysterious woman shows up, kidnaps him, and promises him a way to bring his memories back. Even though she proves the two of them had worked together, Gavin chooses to trust Ty.

Once again, the show proves that family are those who stick up for you, help you in times of need, and show their actions are louder than words.

La Brea always finds a way to connect each piece of the storyline together, giving a reason why something is happening. This time around, the episode connects the 2021 storyline and the 10,000 B.C. storyline through Gavin.

While in one time period, his half-sister needs his thumbprint to recover the microchip, in another one, he is sending Scott a message through a tarpit to help him find the microchip. And it is this microchip that will help him find his family.

But it is also that tarpit that connects the time periods through Scott. Ever since we found out Scott was going to interview with Maya, we’ve wondered why he is so important to the time traveling the military has chosen to do.

Scott has always found a way to help those around him, finding answers to how to survive. It is no surprise that he is the one who helps Ty and Sam find the microchip message.

However, now that he has discovered there is more to Maya than she is showing, we are afraid his life is at risk. How long would it take for the rest of the group to find him?

The clues of what’s to come have always been right in front of us. On this episode, we have two very important clues.

On the one hand, Gavin’s visions of an arm with three scars soon reveal it is Maya who he was remembering. Sadly, instead of being a clue that will lead to them finding Eve or Riley and Josh, it leads to danger and more secrets.

Maya then becomes the biggest threat. It looks like she has been lying all along. Is she really trying to help Gavin, or is she helping herself?

On the other hand, Lucas wants to save the wolf puppy. The moment Sam tells him not to bring the puppy along, we know something that happened to him in the past is affecting him now.

We later discover it is because Sam lost Riley’s dog in a fire they were in when she was little. Rescuing this wolf puppy and risking his life is his way of making up for his mistake.

Can he now fix all of his mistakes by bringing Riley back?

There are two parallel situations that will lead to the safety of everyone on the show.

One is Veronica proving she can be a leader and can help everyone stay alive. By coming up with the idea to make the dam explode to save the village, she proves to Ruth that she deserves that spot on the council.

This will allow the clearing people to continue living in the village and show they deserve to be saved.

The second situation is Ty finally making it back to 10,000 B.C. By coming home with the microchip, he proves he was able to do what he wanted to accomplish in 2021.

His goal was to help his 10,000 B.C. family and that is exactly what he does by coming back with the micropchip and with details of where Josh and Riley ended up at after they went through the aurora.

With only two episodes left of La Brea we can only hope all of our questions will be answered. Eve is still missing, Josh and Riley are still gone, and Scott has diseappared.

How can they work together to bring everybody back safely? And how will they be able to go back to 2021 where they belong?

We can only hope the next few episodes will tie every loose end.
