15 TV Shows Emily Gilmore Would Love

All Rise, Lists, Outlander, Succession, The Crown

We all know the beloved series Gilmore Girls, and can all agree the show works best because of the strong female characters. One such character, Emily Gilmore, is a woman who appreciates the fine things in life, from food to art.

Despite being a woman of finer taste, she also greatly enjoys watching an engaging TV show at the end of a busy day. With a drink in her hand, Emily is likely to watch some of the shows we also love.

We believe her favorites would include the following shows for any number of reasons. Whether she finds she can relate to them, is inspired by them, or feels they demonstrate how she doesn’t have it that bad, Emily will watch these shows over and over again.

Here are 15 TV Shows Emily Gilmore Would Love:

1. Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey-season 6-Isobel Crawley

If there is one thing about Emily Gilmore, it’s that she and Violet Crawley would have been the best of friends. She would be jealous that she can’t converse with the Dowager or purchase any of the pieces for the DAR.

Downton Abbey would be a religious experience for her, whether she watched it while it aired or after it ended. She would have been watching it every night and would have canceled any meetings or responsibilities because she had an appointment with the Crawleys.

She would wear black the days following Matthew’s death and would call Lorelai and worry her as she described the “handsome young man that died after meeting his son,” and Lorelei would think she was talking about someone real. The topic would come up at dinner, and Emily would talk about the Crawleys like real people. Even Richard would show a bit of concern.

By the time the movies are released she would have found a contact to attend the premieres herself in her finest attire.

2. The Gilded Age

It’s not so far-fetched to think that The Gilded Age would be her Roman Empire due to her love for Downton Abbey. The two series are very similar in nature and give viewers the same sort of opulent experience.

Unlike Downton Abbey, she would try to track down any artifacts for the DAR due to it being set in the United States. She would also spend her time reading more about the historical period.

As she watched the show, she would be coaching Bertha Russell on how to accomplish her goals, and would be frustrated when things don’t seem to go her way. She would talk to her as if she could hear her through the TV and would probably be late to a few events because she stayed up too late or spent much of her morning trying to find out the truth about Peggy’s son.

Her trips to New York would increase as she would become more invested in the history of the 19th-century social scene. We wouldn’t be surprised if she also started a book club to keep talking about the TV show when it’s not airing.

She had to learn how to use a smart TV to be able to enjoy The Gilded Age with a cup of tea, but it was all worth it.

3. Succession

She probably stumbled upon Succession after finishing The Gilded Age, considering they both reside on the same streaming service.

She is knowledgeable in business; therefore, it seems like something she would enjoy. Being as the Roys are extremely rich business people, it’s the best of both worlds.

The pilot starting with Logan’s health issues and the question of succession, probably caused her to have a conversation with Richard about the future of the family. In which, he probably reassured her that everything would be okay.

She would be watching the show and be inspired by the Roy siblings’ resilience, especially Kendall, whom she would refer to as “an ambitious young man.” She would probably tell Richard to at least consider hiring one of the Roy children, because they would be fantastic at the job, Richard would agree.

While Richard would be supportive of her love for other shows, this would be the one she would force him to sit down and watch with her. It would, not surprisingly, go completely over their heads that the characters of Succession should not be glorified.

4. Genius

Emily has always appreciated history, and what better show to showcase the impact of historical figures than Genius? This is a show that would bring her to tears as she would realize how people have changed the world, it would be the topic of conversation at Friday night dinners.

This would be the show she would force Lorelai to watch because she thinks her daughter needs a reminder that there are real people in the world other than the celebrities and fictional characters she obsesses over. She would force her to watch it to get a “reality check.”

She would also be weeping by the end of each episode and cheering as well.

5. Desperate Housewives

Desperate Housewives

This is a show she would deny that she was watching out of embarrassment or judgment. That said, it will be a TV show that could bring her closer to Lorelai since she would feel the safest discussing it with her.

As she would talk to Lorelai about the show, she would try to identify her peers as the characters, and wonder if the women at the DAR were hiding gossip as juicy as the one shown in Desperate Housewives. She would ask Lorelai if there were any stories as crazy as the ones in the show since they had to have been inspired by real life. Lorelai is now concerned about the effects of Emily being exposed to that level of storytelling.

Friday night dinners will be the time when she would explain the plot in extreme detail, and Richard would inevitably be confused and think that she’s referring to people that they know. He would ask, “Who is Lynette Scavo? Is she from the country club?” and it would lead to a laughing fit from Lorelai as Emily would answer the question in a serious manner.

Desperate Housewives would be a little afternoon treat for her, as her life is messy, but at least not as messy as Bree Van De Kamp’s.

6. Velvet

Velvet

Emily Gilmore would fall in love with everything regarding Velvet. She would make people build the Velvet store just so she could have the experience of going there and looking at the marvelous clothes herself.

It would be a problem for Richard because Emily would develop a big shopping problem. it is worse than with The Gilded Age because at least that could be with the DAR, but with Velvet, it would all be in their house.

She would never be fully satisfied with the clothes she finds. So, she would try contacting the wardrobe designers of the show to see if they still have clothes left over or if she could pay them to make them for her.

The plot of Velvet would not be a priority for her, it would just be the clothes.

7. Gran Hotel

gran hotel

Emily Gilmore has seen her fair share of fancy hotels and experienced the luxuries of life. She would start watching Gran Hotel because of the setting but then would be shocked at the amount of drama that happens in a hotel. This show ends up being unexpected for her.

First, she thinks it might be similar to Downton Abbey, but the drama ends up being similar to Desperate Housewives. She is taken aback, and since it is a Spanish-language show, not many of her peers are watching it.

Therefore, she is left to wonder about the hotel’s insanity by herself. She tells Richard that she is going to pay closer attention to hotels moving forward because you never know what’s happening behind closed doors.

It also will prove educational for her from a language standpoint, and Emily will try showing off the Spanish words she learns from watching the show. Richard, of course, will not understand a word she is saying but will encourage her nonetheless.

8. All Rise

While Legally Blonde was very formative for many young women, it was not for Emily Gilmore. For her, it was All Rise.

She stumbled upon it one day, and admired the tenacity of Lola Carmichael. She had never seen public defenders in action, and she was surprised at how much the job entailed.

She would start reading up on the law to better understand what other people struggle with and comment on how she would consider a career in the law given the chance early in life. She would joke that maybe she could finally be able to call out some of the people in her circle for their misbehaviors since she would “know the law.”

It is the kind of show she would watch with a notebook and take notes on to keep learning how the court system works. Richard would walk past her as she is curled up watching it, say “good night,” and she would ignore him, because she is too focused on what Lola Carmichael’s verdict will be.

9. Grey’s Anatomy
ELLEN POMPEO

ELLEN POMPEO

Kind of similar to All Rise, she stumbled upon this show by accident and simply can’t stop watching it, no matter how hard she tries. However, she would not be inspired to pursue a career in medicine.

Instead, she would use all the law knowledge she gained from All Rise to say how all of the Grey Sloan doctors could be sued for malpractice.

Poor Lorelai would be kept on the phone for hours listening to Emily talk about how irresponsible the doctors are. Then Emily would beg her to promise that if she ever has the misfortune to fall ill, let her die instead of bringing her to Grey Sloan.

Lorelei would remind her that Meredith Grey went to an Ivy League school, and Emily would say that it doesn’t matter because Miranda Bailey didn’t. Lorelai would simply say yes to appease her mother and get her off the phone.

Despite her misgivings about the doctors, Emily would enjoy the show and even become emotional at some of the moments involving the patients.

10. Switched At Birth

Emily would love this show despite it making her clutch her pearls, shocked that babies being switched at birth and raised by different families is something that can happen in real life. She would be hooked as she saw all the families deal with the fallout of a situation that she couldn’t believe was possible.

Richard would reassure her that situations like that one are unlikely. She would mutter something regarding DNA testing Lorelai since she’s so different from them, and Richard would be taken aback, telling her that Lorelai is their biological daughter.

Then he would suggest that perhaps she should rewatch Downton Abbey instead of finishing Switched At Birth.

Still, despite the stress that this show would inevitably cause her, she would be inspired by the young girls’ resilience and ability to make lemonade out of lemons.

11. Sanditon
SANDITON
MASTERPIECE – Sanditon – Charlotte Heywood (ROSE WILLIAMS) and Sidney Parker (THEO JAMES)
For editorial use only.

This show would come to Emily in a time of need, as she is adjusting to a life that is different from what she was used to.

She would find that she relates to Charlotte the most out of everyone. She’d probably enjoy this show as she lay on her new couch in Nantucket, wanting Charlotte to choose herself instead of the men who don’t seem to be good enough for her.

However, as judgmental as she would be while watching Sanditon, she would understand Charlotte because she, too, was once a young girl in love, confused about the world, and is now trying to find out who she is on her own. Sanditon would be very healing for her.

12. The Bear

Despite having never set foot in a kitchen or knowing what a Pop Tart is, Emily Gilmore would walk past the television while The Bear was playing, stop in her tracks, and sit down. Her hand would go to her chest as she would hear Donna Berzatto have a meltdown in the kitchen about feeling useless and underappreciated by her children.

Perhaps she would be overcome with the same feeling that she felt when she visited Stars Hollow and Rory showed her how she and Lorelai started their life together in that small town. How despite having everything against them, Carmy and his team are on their way to being successful, much like Lorelai and Rory managed to accomplish.

This show might also give Emily a deeper appreciation of her own staff, inspiring her to show them how much with a gift or a bonus.

13. Broadchurch
Broadchurch - Series III
Broadchurch – Series III

Emily Gilmore is not much for crime dramas, but if there is one thing that she will always pay attention to, is drama in families other than hers.

Broadchurch is about a town that comes together after an unspeakable tragedy. Emily would have most likely grabbed a little notebook, and every night, as she watched, she would scribble down her theories about the town and which person could be heartless enough to kill an innocent child.

She would probably call Lorelai after, recap the show, and ask her who she believes could be capable of such acts within Stars Hollow. Lorelai would remain quiet, but she would actually give it some thought.

Emily would most likely reply that she believes Kirk to be the most plausible one, based on their awkward encounters and how she considers his behavior to be strange.

14. Outlander

Someone probably recommended Outlander to her and she was intrigued due to it being a historical fiction TV show. However, she would quickly be shocked at how things would completely escalate in a way she did not expect. Despite these misgivings, she would still enjoy it.

However, every episode she would watch with the remote by her side, ready to turn it off when necessary. She would not discuss the show with anyone, specially Lorelai, because she would not want anyone to know what she was watching. It would be her secret guilty pleasure.

If Richard ever brought up a trip to Scotland, she would immediately agree to go, and Richard would ask why she was so excited since she had never shown that excitement towards Scotland previously. She would dismiss him and say that she loves Scotland, always has and always will.

15. The Crown

Emily Gilmore carries herself as if she is the queen. Naturally, she would tune in to The Crown from day one.

Part of her would believe everything in this show is accurate and would be shocked at all of the moments that were never made public in the media but happened in the TV show. She would bring it up the next day while at tea or brunch with her friends, how she couldn’t believe what horrible things happened to the Royal family and how they were so brave.

If she were to be a Princess Diana defender is hard to say, but she would at least feel bad for the poor girl since she would recognize that Prince Charles was not kind to her at all. Lorelai would try to tell her that it’s mostly fiction, but she would not believe it because “why would TV lie.”
