Doctor Who Season 14 Sets Multi-Episode Premiere on Disney+ and BBC

Whovians, Doctor Who is coming back with a new season in May!

The Whoniverse returns with Doctor Who Season 14 (or Season 1, according to the streaming service’s key art) on Friday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. EST on Disney+ in the U.S. The new season will premiere on Saturday, May 11, at 12:00 a.m. GMT on BCC iPlayer, followed by BBC One later that day.

The two-episode season premiere will be the iconic franchise’s first global simultaneous launch. To celebrate the upcoming worldwide release, Disney+ released new Doctor Who key art featuring the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, and his companion Ruby Sunday, portrayed by Millie Gibson.

Doctor Who Season 14 may be Gibson’s only season as the Doctor’s companion.

Variety reported in January 2024 that Gibson will exit the series after the upcoming season; Varada Sethu will star opposite Gatwa as the Doctor’s companion in the already-confirmed Doctor Who Season 15. 

Gibson made her debut as Ruby Sunday in the Doctor Who Christmas Special, “The Church on Ruby Road,” which streamed in December 2023 on Disney+ and BBC.

The new season of Doctor Who “follows the Doctor and Ruby Sunday through infinite adventures across time and space in the TARDIS. From the Regency era in England to war-torn futures, the duo champion the forces of good while encountering incredible friends and dangerous foes,” per its synopsis.

“At last, it’s my great delight to unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby’s adventures together. Monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that’s been spanning time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!” showrunner, executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said.

The previously announced guest stars for Season 14 include Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Yasmin Finney, Michelle Greenidge, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, Indira Varma, and Angela Wynter.

Disney+ shared that a new trailer for Doctor Who‘s 14th season will debut next Friday, March 22. The first teaser trailer came after the Christmas special.

Produced by Bad Wolf, with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC, and under the creative vision of Davis, Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter executive produce the show. Ben Chessell, Jamie Donoughue, Julie Anne Robinson, and Dylan Holmes Williams direct Season 14.
