Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Reviews

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25 Episode 7, “Probability of Doom,” finally feels like an episode celebrating a milestone season like this one. By bringing up Benson’s past and giving an old case a positive closure, the episode celebrates Benson and her work of two and a half decades.

Maria is the little girl Benson rescued back in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 7 Episode 3, “911,” and now she gets to see her as a grown woman who has followed her heart and become an NYPD cop as well.

After almost 20 years, Benson is able to put this case to rest, knowing that after saving Maria, she led a happy and healthy life. It is probably what she needed after Maddie’s case and after spending so many years working with the horrors of humankind.

One thing that was extremely noticeable on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25 was that, for the most part, the team worked as separate pieces of the same puzzle. While they did work together, one or two cops were always missing to give screen time to the others.

Even though Sykes and Bruno aren’t present on “Probability of Doom,” this doesn’t affect the squad’s dynamic, and it actually works in favor of Curry, who we start to like a little better the more she appears onscreen.

Curry and Fin’s comments to each other have helped us get to know Curry better and understand who she is as a person. That is exactly what we need with new characters introduced decades into the show.

Without those little moments with Fin, her times getting sick at the crime scene, and her interrogations with Benson, Curry would have fallen back into the shadows, and we wouldn’t care about her character. This episode definitely pushes her forward into the light and makes us like her more.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25 Episode 7, “Probability of Doom,” feels like an old-school episode or what the fans call SVU 1.0.

The scenes in which we see the team visiting the morgue to talk to the ME are the perfect reminder of what the show used to be like. It makes us think of those times in which they talked to Melinda Warner about the case, the victims, the bodies, and the details of their attacks.

By hearing this ME describe the killings and the murder weapon, we can connect further with the case and start putting the evidence together on the other side of the screen. It would be nice to see this happening more throughout the season.

This throwback to previous seasons is what makes Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25 feel like a milestone season. It truly celebrates the show’s essence and its meaning to the viewers.

It definitely stands out from the other episodes in the season, and hopefully, the remainder of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25 will feel like a celebration of the show and its characters as well.

There are two things that we could question about Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25 and the new dynamics it introduces.

The first one is that Velasco has only felt like an interruption lately. Even though he has some scenes in which he interrogates suspects, his character is mostly used to interrupt other scenes and add little pieces of evidence.

There is much more to his character than what he does nowadays. Hopefully, at some point during the season, he will return to being the same cop he was when he first joined the squad. His storyline was definitely more interesting back then.

The second thing we must question is how the team will continue to work in the presence of two captains. Yes, Benson is in charge of Manhattan SVU, but Curry can also pull her rank.

We see her do it on “Probability of Doom” when Benson isn’t at the office, and she tells Velasco and Fin what to do. Clearly, there is no malice in this, but we wonder how it will work moving forward.

There is no way two captains can co-exist for a long period of time.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - Season 25 Episode 7, Frank Wood as M.E. Abel Truman shows his findings on a decomposing corpse to Ice T as Sgt. Odafin "Fin" Tutuola and Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25 Episode 7, “Probability of Doom,” must definitely be highlighted as the episode that finally celebrated a milestone season.

If, up to this point, you had felt disappointed by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 25, this episode definitely turns things around.
