So Help Me Todd Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Faux-Bituary

Reviews, So Help Me Todd

On So Help Me Todd Season 2 Episode 7, “Faux-Bituary,” we open on Margaret having one heck of a rough workday. Still, at least she doesn’t have to open a newspaper and read of her own death.

Meeting a man who has had to go through that, she agrees to help him restore his living status in a battle that I really hope isn’t reflective of the real legal system. Can we really keep calling a man “dead on paper” when he’s standing in front of us?

She eventually learns that Leo’s been “killed” by a son he didn’t knew existed and who blames him for ruining his mother’s life when Leo was an alcoholic. Margaret manages to spare all involved too many consequences, returning Leo to the land of the legally living.

Leo is in the office alongside a new client the firm is attempting to woo and some random guy looking to re-home reptiles. This leads to an absurd but beautiful trifecta of mistaken identities involving the dark web, Scottish accents, and happy coincidences.

Add in Lyle being high off post-dentist nitrous oxide, more Wright family dinner table arguments, and the continued trouble at the firm creating tensions amongst many characters, and we are truly going all out in the show’s final (sigh) episodes.

Though we do gets bits and pieces of ongoing storylines thrown at us, a good chunk of this episode is dedicated to pure chaos that just keeps spiraling as a Scottish client stumbles upon Todd and an inebriated trying to access the dark web to help Leo.

We’re definitely stretching credulity in having the man fall for their antics, but they’re hilarious nonetheless. We’re also left with him thinking Todd is the firm’s yet unseen third partner, a ruse they surely can’t keep up forever.

With everyone literally running around, we don’t make any major changes in the more dramatic storylines, but they’re as prevalent as ever. Susan is still left without explanation as to being denied a raise. Allison is still watching her life fall apart.

These tensions flare at various points, particularly as Allison endures passive-aggressive comments about that whole “hooking up with Dick Franks” thing. It’s played off a bit, but she’s clearly in crisis and needs better support from her family.

The most troubling thing, though, is a name mentioned only in passing: Veronica. Nearly a season on, our characters are just starting to catch on to tricks she pulled. That has to be foreshadowing, but of what? The ideas are honestly alarming.

All this makes the show’s recent cancellation all the more painful. What resolution can we expect to get for a pack of storylines that can’t possibly be wrapped up the three episodes now remaining? Will we really always be left with an unanswered cliffhanger?

There is a campaign to save the show. Having it saved by another network is an uphill battle and trying to convince CBS to change its mind is even more of a long shot, but it still can’t hurt to try. Let’s do all we can to get the resolution everyone involved with this show deserves.
