The Rookie Renewed for Season 7 on ABC
The Rookie is coming back for more on ABC!
The Nathan Fillion-led police procedural drama has been renewed for Season 7.
The Rookie, which debuted in 2018, follows Fillion as John Nolan, “once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, has used his life experience, determination, and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior,” per Season 6’s synopsis.
The show returned with The Rookie Season 6 Episode 1, “Strike Back,” on Tuesday, February 20, at 9/8c on ABC. That season premiere moved The Rookie to a new time slot because Season 5 aired at 8/7c.
“Strike Back” pulled “11.92 million viewers over five weeks of cross-platform viewing, the best single-episode performance for The Rookie since its second-ever installment in October 2018,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show celebrated its milestone 100th episode on The Rookie Season 6 Episode 2, “The Hammer,” on February 27.
TV Line reports that The Rookie “has been averaging more than 6 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), down just a hair from its Season 5 numbers.”
The ABC drama, created by executive producer and showrunner Alexi Hawley, stars Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore, Jenna Dewan, Tru Valentino, and Lisseth Chavez.
Its renewal joins those for Abbott Elementary (Season 4), 9-1-1 (Season 8), Grey’s Anatomy (Season 21), and Will Trent (Season 3). The Rookie‘s spinoff series, The Rookie: Feds, was canceled after one season in November 2023.
The show returns with The Rookie Season 6 Episode 7, “Crushed,” on Tuesday, April 30, at 9/8c on ABC.
Fillion, Mark Gordon, Michelle Chapman, Brynn Malone, Bill Norcross, and Jon Steinberg executive produce the show. The Rookie is a co-production between the lead studio and international distributor Lionsgate Television and ABC Signature.
