Will Trent Season 2 Episode 6 Review: We Are Family

Reviews, Will Trent

Will Trent delivers a very entertaining hour that pushes Will out of his comfort zone, both at work and in his personal life. Will Trent Season 2 Episode 6, “We Are Family” introduces some of the show’s most colorful guest characters.

Often, the series leans more into the comedy territory than the drama realm. “We Are Family” reminds us why that’s a good thing because it’s one of the most laugh-out-loud romps so far. It’s full of twists, turns, and fabulous outfits.

Many hilarious lines, reactions, and dynamics come from this episode.

The drag queens bring out the funniest side of Will and the gang. They force the group to put their best foot forward and deliver excellent comedy and remind us of their infectious nature.

Comedically, this is a nearly perfect episode. However, it does go a little too far into cartoonish territory in some parts. For example, the chase scene and the audience’s reaction feel too silly to be believable. However, the silliness is part of the charm of “We Are Family.”

We shouldn’t take it too seriously.

Each of the cast knows how to effortlessly take their comedy moments and use them to their fullest and how to deliver equally compelling dramatic moments. Will introducing his found family to his biological family is done so well.

It’s where some of the drama thrives in this episode.

You recognize the monumental nature of this moment because this isn’t something Will does easily, but it’s important to his growth.

Will’s scars are beginning to heal.

All the scenes focusing on Will meeting Uncle Antonio are sweet to watch. Ramon Rodriguez and John Ortiz match each other’s energy. Their characters are equally eager to connect and you feel this with the brilliant acting from both men. Their hope for their future together makes us instantly invest in their future familial relationship.

We want to see every family holiday with Will and Antonio. Additionally, we want to know more about Will’s biological family.

I cannot stress how much it’s enjoyable to see the chemistry between the Will Trent cast in Season 2. The show isn’t even simply relying on the established chemistry, like between Amanda and Will, but gives us new pairs.

Faith and Michael have been interacting more in Season 2. They didn’t have as many scenes with just them together in Season 1, but this year their scenes have been really interesting to watch.

They’re a lot more alike than you realize until you hear their single-parent struggles.

“We Are Family” also reunites Angie and Will. They had more time together on this episode than they have had all season so far. Personally, I am glad the show broke their codependency and is allowing the characters to grow apart. But I must admit, I find myself excited to see them interacting so much during this episode.

I really enjoy Angie and Will as friends. It’s when they get to the on-again-off-again stuff that it grows somewhat tiresome. Tonight showcases the perfect dynamic between them: close friends who understand each other like no one else.

Between Will Trent Season 2 Episode 5, “Capt. Duke Wagner’s Daughter” and “We Are Family,” the show is having a really strong second season. Thank goodness, ABC already renewed it because I can’t wait to see what Season 3 has to offer.

Stray Thoughts
  • The ending with everyone is such a sweet scene and it shows how they’ve become a family.
  • Guess we’re back to engaging in questionable police activity with Michael’s children just walking around a police station.
  • Betty Maria White Trent is a perfect dog’s name, yes?
  • Glad to see Faith casually mention Amanda’s crime. I thought it was going to be erased for a moment.
  • Glinda Velvet gets one of the funniest lines when he mentions that his life is like a Shonda Rhimes show. It’s good to know ABC hasn’t forgotten its money-maker.
