9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 7 Review: Ghost of a Second Chance

9-1-1, Reviews

The past is a major theme on 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 7, “Ghost of a Second Chance,” when Maddie answers a very particular 9-1-1 call, Hen and Karen help Mara adjust, and Eddie comes across someone with a familiar face.

While Maddie had been a key character on 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 6, “There Goes the Groom,” it is nice to see her take the lead on a case. Her experience as a dispatcher is important, but her personal experience plays a much bigger role.

Hopefully, Maddie will continue to grow, and we will continue to see more of her.

Maddie Can Relate
KENNETH CHOI
9-1-1 – Ghost of a Second Chance – KENNETH CHOI

The moment Maddie answers the call, and we discover it’s a possible domestic violence case, we feel like Josh and want her to give the call to someone else, but Maddie knows best.

She is quick to guide the woman on the other side of the phone on what to say and do to keep the man as calm as possible. Maddie can relate to her because she once was her, so she knows exactly what to do.

However, because she projects her own feelings, she misguides the call, believing the man on the other side is the victim’s husband. Still, that doesn’t take away from her doing her best during the call to keep the woman and the baby safe.

These are some of the best Jennifer Love Hewitt scenes we have seen since Doug’s death. Her facial expressions tell us everything we need to know about the way Maddie is feeling.

This becomes particularly true when she is talking to Chimney. She is the woman in the passenger seat, but only by putting herself in that situation again can she talk about her feelings.

It is because she is the woman in the passenger seat that she gives the police the necessary clues to help find the baby and capture the man. Even though she felt like she messed up at one point, Maddie is why the baby and mom are safe.

In true Maddie nature, she visits the woman at the hospital. That is when we witness one of the best new character introductions we have seen on 9-1-1.

Amir and Maddie immediately connect because they have personal experiences that make them feel a special bond with the victim. They don’t need to say much about what happened to them, they understand one another.

However, what catches our eye the most is the way in which Amir seems to be particularly interested in Bobby. Amir can’t take his eyes off Captain Nash from the moment he walks into the hospital until the episode ends.

He claims not to know Bobby but wants to do so. Is there a story there? Is it possible he knows of Bobby?

Hopefully, this will be explored more before the end of 9-1-1 Season 7.

Helping Mara
RYAN GUZMAN, GAVIN MCHUGH
9-1-1 – ÒGhost of a Second ChanceÓ – RYAN GUZMAN, GAVIN MCHUGH

9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 6, “There Goes the Groom,” proves the social worker was right, and Mara’s best chance is with Karen and Hen.

Even though we haven’t seen much of Mara recently, it looks like she is adjusting well to her new home. Sleeping at night is still hard for her, but her relationship with Denny is the one that stands out the most.

The little girl seems to have connected with her new brother, letting him in on secrets that she hasn’t shared with anyone else. That is how Hen and Karen discover she has a little brother.

Of course, the two women do everything they can to find Tyson and ensure Mara and him have a relationship. It seems impossible at first, but the fact that his mom brings him over to see Mara promises the two will continue to see each other.

Once again, Hen and Karen prove why they have one of the strongest relationships on the show. Not only do they understand each other, but they will always show up for those they love.

Mara is absolutely where she is supposed to be.

A Ghost From Eddie’s Past
DEVIN KELLEY
9-1-1 – Ghost of a Second Chance – DEVIN KELLEY

We are just as shocked as Eddie when we realize the saleswoman looks exactly like Shannon. He takes another look, and so do we. Could it be possible?

Having Devin Kelley back to play Shannon in the flashbacks and Kim in Eddie’s present is a nice little treat for those who loved to see the pair together. Their chemistry is still there, and they seem to fall back into perfect rhythm.

However, how good can this be for Eddie?

He is just now feeling normal after losing Shannon. It has been hard for him to have a stable relationship with Marisol and open up about his feelings; this encounter will ruin that.

Eddie is already lying to Marisol, Buck, and Christopher about going out with Kim. Something that starts out of lies cannot end well.

How will Kim feel when she finds out why Eddie asked her out? How will Christopher feel when he sees Kim?

This new turn in Eddie’s storyline opens Pandora’s box, and much can come out of this. Is he truly okay?

Or has he been struggling with Shannon’s loss far more than he has shared with his 118 family?

It’s nice to have Devin Kelley back, but not if it means an enormous setback for Eddie. As viewers, we are definitely rooting for his happiness, but we wonder if this is it.
