Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 13 Review: I Think I Know You, but Do I Really?

Chicago Med, Reviews

Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 13, “I Think I Know You, but Do I Really?” brings every storyline introduced at the beginning of the season full circle. However, not all of them have the happy ending we expected.

Goodwin is one of the two who seem to have hopes of a better future during Chicago Med Season 10.

Even though she has to put Bert in a specialized facility, her new boyfriend is there for support. If someone can survive anything, it is Goodwin.

It’s definitely sad to watch Goodwin deal with Bert’s diagnosis. She doesn’t want to feel like she’s giving up on him or throwing him away.

It isn’t until Charles describes what will happen to the prisoner with dementia that she makes a choice regarding Bert’s future. Truthfully, she makes the best choice for everyone involved.

Maggie is the other person whose storyline for Chicago Med Season 9 ends on a happy note. After her sad divorce, Johnson is the light in the darkness.

They’ve grown closer together, from flirting in the ED to helicopter accidents. This finale makes it clear as they make plans to go out after their shifts.

Hopefully, next season will continue bringing happy and loving moments for Goodwin and Maggie.

What started out terribly between Charles and Ripley ends just as terribly. The two seemed to have gotten over the past, but that’s completely erased on Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 13, “I Think I Know You, but Do I Really?”

Ripley’s anger towards the system ends with another argument with Charles about how he advocated (or didn’t) for him in the past. And we see Charles act just as angry for the first time in a while.

He tells Ripley he is tired of apologizing and advocating for him in the ED. Without knowing it, Charles is pushing Ripley back to his old self.

Between Sully’s comments about him going soft and this argument with Charles, Ripley feels lost and falls back into his old ways.

Or at least that’s what the finale makes us feel when Liliana’s brother is taken into the ED after a beatdown.

Ripley doesn’t say a word when Pawel accuses him and instead walks away. This makes him look guilty, and as Asher watches him leave, we wonder what will happen to their relationship.

Chicago Med Season 9 was the perfect scenario for Sean and Archer to fix their relationship. However, Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 13, “I Think I Know You, but Do I Really?” seems to have ruined that.

When someone from Margo’s clinic is taken to the ED and is clearly under the influence, Sean becomes who Archer used to be with him.

At first glance, it seems hypocritical that Sean is judging this man for his addiction. After all, wasn’t that him not too long ago?

But as the story develops, we understand he is mad his father is giving this man another chance when he gave Sean an ultimatum. This goes back to how terrible their relationship was.

Even though things seemed to be better between them, they clearly aren’t. As much as Archer has improved in the audience’s eyes, there are still wounds to heal with his son.

Hopefully, Chicago Med Season 10 will explore that.

Marcel finishes the season at an incredibly vulnerable spot. For the first time since Natalie, he talks to someone else about the death of his daughter.

Sadly, this conversation comes after his patient died and his father took his own life. It brings back feelings in Marcel that he believed weren’t there anymore.

However, this breaking point could make for a great Chicago Med Season 10 storyline.

A doctor who has always been confident and successful is brought to a point in his career where he realizes he has done everything out of pain.

Now, it’s time for him to look at this pain and understand better how to live with it. Understand how he can return to that success and confidence without hiding his feelings.

Chicago Med Season 9 has been a nearly perfect season. Each episode delivered several storylines that made us understand our favorite characters better.

The fact that most of these storylines ended in a question mark or a tough spot only means the beginning of Chicago Med Season 10 will be quite interesting.

Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 13, “I Think I Know You, but Do I Really?” is just proof of how great a show can be when every character gets an interesting and emotional storyline. Hopefully, Chicago Med will continue down the same road.
