Fire Country Season 2 Episode 10 I Do Max Thieriot as Bode Leone

Fire Country Season 2 Episode 10 Review: I Do

Fire Country, Reviews

Fire Country Season 2 Episode 10, “I Do,” elegantly wraps up loose ties and leaves the audience craving more as the season comes to an end.

In a fitting send-off for the season, Fire Country takes a moment to slow things down and focus on individual storylines. Instead of having a rushed finale, adequate time is provided for things to start coming to an end naturally.

Eve gets the eye-opening sign she’s been looking for, Bode works to find himself again, Manny comes face-to-face with law enforcement, Luke gets bested one last time, and Jake gets the shock of a lifetime.

Freedom at Last

Unlike the true Bode fashion we’ve been privy to, he keeps his promise of working to become a law-abiding citizen reintegrating into the public world. That means getting a job and facing the difficulties that come with freedom: dark moments from your past.

Cole to Bode: You made it to the top of this mountain, so celebrate a little bit before your next climb.

Bode’s determination to get out of Three Rock is seeing its rewards, but now he’s faced with another challenging feat: having his record expunged and getting hired at Cal Fire.

No matter where or what he may be doing to get by, Bode will forever be a firefighter at heart, and “I Do” perfectly encapsulates that sentiment with his heroic actions that save a young boy from a volatile fire climbing the side of a hospital building.

In the meantime, it looks like he’ll be spending his days in construction alongside the deplorable soul that led his life astray and into drugs back in high school.

A Difficult Decision

Eve’s character arc this season has been one of my absolute favorites. Watching her overcome her feelings of doubt in herself, her leadership, and her ability to take over at Three Rock has been immensely enjoyable.

Despite the monumental opportunities thrown at Eve on this episode, she sticks true to who she is, not leaving behind the men who put their trust and faith in her, and it’s admirable.

Eve has never been the type to put money over the value or worth of human life, a fact that Luke seemingly forgets in his attempt to repair the bridges he’s burned.

However, she doesn’t come to that conclusion all on her own. She’s slightly tempted initially, and Cole’s words of wisdom ultimately make her see that she’s needed at Three Rock; for that, everyone can be grateful.

Cole to Eve: You know, when I got here, everyone was talking about Bode, about Manny. When I leave, I’m gonna be talking about you. Any other captain would’ve sent me back to prison the moment they had a chance. Any other captain would take that job offer in Sacramento. But I don’t think you’re any other captain. I think Bode’s uncle, the one with the impossibly shiny hair, is trying to make you more like him and less like you. And that’s a shame.

It’s highly unlikely we’d see Eve leave her loved ones and everyone at Three Rock, no matter the offer anyway, but Cole’s endearing sentiments solidify her decision.

The character progression between the two has come full circle from Season 2 Episode 1, “Something’s Coming,” and it’s a lovely moment to witness.

Cole went from not respecting Eve to holding the highest level of respect for her by the end of the season. It’s character arcs like this that I absolutely live for, and I hope that we get to see more positive interactions between the two in Season 3.

New Baby Daddy in Town?

Rick potentially being Gen’s birth father is a bombshell I was not expecting, but one I’m looking forward to exploring. Even if he isn’t, it’s the perfect incentive for Jake to sit down and honestly think about what he wants for his life.

Stepping away from firefighting and becoming an inspector feels like a gut-punching transition for Jake’s character, but it would make sense if he wants to be more present in Gen’s life.

One of my only hopes for this potential storyline between Jake, Rick, and Gen is that we don’t see it lead Jake away from Cal Fire. Like Bode, Jake was born to be a firefighter, and being forced to see him put that on the back burner to adhere to a custody battle would be a significant letdown.

The Cliffhanger of a Lifetime

Unfortunately, one of the pressing questions we’ve been asking all season long will have to wait until after the hiatus to be answered.

Gabriela has been questioning her feelings toward her engagement with Diego all season long, and with Bode’s freedom, it’s only plagued her even more. We see this through her conversations with Eve, her inability to be in the same room with Bode without gazing at him as she used to, and her looking back at him during the wedding ceremony twice.

While the wait to learn the fate of Gabriela and Bode will be excruciatingly long, it’s one of the best decisions the series could make to keep viewers on their toes.

It also leaves open various ways we could see Season 3 begin. Either it’ll pick back up in the same timeframe, right after Manny’s arrest and before her answer to marrying Diego, or we’ll see a time jump that could either begin with Bode and Gabriela together or the two apart as she deals with her feelings about breaking the wedding off.

Stray Thoughts:

  • Manny’s arrest is one of those storylines that need to conveniently conclude during the hiatus because his going back to jail is something I’m doubtful any fans want to entertain. He’s worked too hard to turn his life around to be knocked down a peg due to Luke’s egregious actions.
  • Sharon taking back her position from Luke is the icing on the cake of the warranted disappointments he receives on “I Do.”
  • Freddy’s return is a definite highlight of the episode! Now that Bode is free, I hope we either see Bode spend some time with him in L.A. or Freddy move back to Edgewater.
  • Even with the minute amount of time we spend with Cole, he provides some of the most eloquent moments of much-needed advice. Tye White deserves more screen time in Season 3, no doubt.
