Ramon Rodriguez on Will Trent Season 2; Have You Never Been To A Wedding

Will Trent Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Have You Never Been To A Wedding?

Reviews, Will Trent

Will and his crew like to have fun. Will Trent Season 2 Episode 7, “Have You Never Been to A Wedding?” confirms this fact. It’s another entertaining outing that allows Faith and Will to shine.

Their partnership highlights why they’re the show’s most dynamic pair. However, each of them also becomes a new exciting version of themselves.

Will tests out his cleverness as he becomes a master of disguise, a spy-type character. Faith becomes an action hero.

In Will’s lawyer persona, he takes charge of the situation and manipulates the criminals. He becomes the brain of Faith’s brawn. She just kicks some butt in the most thrilling way.

One of her fight scenes happening to “Cha-Cha Slide” is brilliant. It calls back to the early 2000s when everyone danced to that song at any major event. Second, it’s a song you’d expect to hear at a wedding, especially a Black one. So that’s a funny little nod.

Then it perfectly adds background music to a major fight scene. This makes it a lot more lighthearted and comedic, but still impressive.

Will’s manipulation shows how the show can really take you on a journey. You go from laughing at how easily Will tricks the heist leader, to worrying whether he may witness another traumatic murder.

The scene provides the perfect opportunity to explain another scar of Will’s life. Initially, it seems as if the series is about to reveal that Will accidentally shot someone as a child. However, the show made it even more tragic.

He tries to help but it backfires. The layers of Will and Angie’s trauma seem endless. Therefore, it makes sense for them to restart a bad habit.

Many may love the Angie and Will pairing but it is a pattern that the writers and the characters need to stop. It moves the characters backward.

Angie and Will need to stop this codependent romance. It doesn’t allow either of them to find love with others. Ramon Rodriguez and Erika Christensen have fabulous chemistry but the Angie and Will romance grows tiresome.

It’s sweet in a way but also has become repetitive and predictable. They have to have more interesting love interests and stories out there for them.

Maybe Will Trent Season 3 will finally allow them to fall for other people. This season even works with no new love interests for Will and Angie. It wasn’t necessary. The ABC series gives us the false impression that the pair will remain friends this season.  Therefore, the ending feels disappointing.

It’s like when an addict character falls off the wagon just when you think they finally have gone completely sober. Maybe in the future, Will Trent will make Will and Angie a rootable couple, but most likely they will break up again next week.

Just break the cycle already, at least for a few seasons.

Overall, “Have You Never Been to A Wedding?” is another great episode in a very strong Season 2. It’s fun, taps into another part of Will’s tragic past, and has one of the show’s best fight scenes (so far). If only it ended on a better note.

Stray Thoughts
  • Patty is the MVP of the episode. She needs to make more appearances. Just such a funny character.
  • Oddly, I did think Will would have safe cracking skills
  • Mike and Angie have been incorporated into the main storylines a lot this season. I enjoy how this continues to make the team seem like one unit and improve their bonds.
