House of the Dragon Receives Early Season 3 Renewal at HBO

House of the Dragon has been renewed for Season 3 ahead of its Season 2 premiere.

The show’s sophomore season debuts on Sunday, June 16, at 9/8c on HBO and streams on Max. 

Based on co-creator and executive producer George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen and the Dance of the Dragons. HBO released two trailers representing Team Black and Team Green dueling in the war.

“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films said.

“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart,” Orsi added.

“We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three,” Orsi concluded.

House of the Dragon Season 2 stars Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, and Jefferson Hall.

Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, Simon Russell Beale, Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor, and Vincent Regan are joining this season’s ensemble.

The series made its series debut with House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 1, “The Heirs of the Dragon,” in August 2022. The freshman season concluded with House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 10, “The Black Queen,” in October 2022.

Ryan Condal is the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of House of the Dragon Season 2.

Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis also executive produce the series.
