Preview — The Boys Season 4: Things are Going Viral

Prime Video’s massive hit, The Boys, is back for another season of violence, mayhem, and cutting satire. The series’ much anticipated fourth installment doesn’t look like it will be pulling any punches either. 

The Boys Season 4 takes place after the events of The Boys Season 3 and after the conclusion of Gen V Season 1.

The events of Gen V Season 1 will play a significant role in this season of The Boys. So, if you haven’t watched Gen V yet, you should probably get on that. 

On The Boys Season 3, Homelander rose from a publicity low point after dating an actual Nazi during Season 2. Instead of pretending to be a wholesome defender of justice and democracy, Homelander leans into his true strongman beliefs and finds throngs of fans eager to support those views. 

After a season of cat and mouse with Starlight and a brutal showdown with Butcher, Homelander enters Season 4 more politically powerful than ever. And in perhaps the biggest emotional blow to Butcher, he won over his son and starts the season with him at his side.

Add to that the fact that he has sway over presidential contender Victoria Neuman, and Homelander is closer than he has ever been to reshaping the world into his authoritarian vision.

There is, of course, the murder charge confirmed during Gen V Season 1, but every march to power has its speed bumps. 

The only thing standing in Homelander’s way is Butcher and the Boys, and they aren’t starting the season in the best place. Starlight has left The Seven, leaving the team without its inside woman.

Butcher is at odds with the rest of the team, who he finally pushed too far. Oh, and he is also dying because he took a lethal dose of compound V at the end of Season 3.

But The Boys have one powerful, desperate card to play. They have the Supe killing virus introduced during Gen V Season 1.

Butcher has an incredibly powerful weapon to use against Homelander. One he will no doubt be eager to use. However, the more than a little morally questionable implication of unleashing such a weapon is not something everyone on the team is ok with. At least not initially.

And that seems to be the heart of Season 4. How do you fight a monster without becoming one? Is violence the only way to stop Homelander? Are there lines we can’t cross even when the threat has no such restraint?

Season description: The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
