The 15 Cutest Annie and Hughie Moments on ‘The Boys’

There are rarely moments of peace in the bloody world of The Boys. However, Annie and Hughie’s relationship is a reprieve from the constant violence of selfish Supes. 

It is inspiring that these two are constantly fighting for each other. Even though the couple have been on opposite sides of the conflict between the Boys and the Supes, Annie and Hughie always find a way back to each other. They provide hope that their dark world isn’t so bad after all.

From their first meeting to Annie agreeing to join the Boys at the end of Season 3, plenty of moments are worth championing between this couple. 

Here are 15 adorable Annie and Hughie moments from the show, in chronological order:

1. Their First Meeting (Season 1 Episode 1)

The first time Hughie and Annie meet is on The Boys Season 1 Episode 1, “The Name of the Game.” Hughie sees Annie crying on the bench and shares that he’s also having a difficult day. 

Hughie encourages this stranger to follow her dreams, citing that his ex-girlfriend Robin taught him never to give up.

Annie takes his advice and decides to stay in the Seven to try and make the world a better place.

From this interaction alone, it’s clear that these two are meant to be. Although Hughie had just met Annie, they immediately offered each other support. Their first meeting was a great setup to watch them slowly fall in love throughout the first season. 

2. Lunch at A-Train’s Race (Season 1 Episode 3)

The next time Hughie and Annie meet is at A-Train’s race on The Boys Season 1 Episode 3, “Get Some.”

Hughie finally realizes that Annie is Starlight, and he distracts her while Frenchie is trying to steal some Compound V from A-Train.

He invites her for a beer, and the two go on an unofficial date. While Annie tells Hughie about her troubles with Vought, Hughie turns off his comms to speak to her honestly. At the end of their meal, Annie gives him her number. 

Hughie decides to offer candid advice to Annie even though he’s on a mission, showing that he can’t help but care for her despite their conflicting agendas. He holds a grudge against the Supes after A-Train killed Robin, but he still genuinely enjoys Annie’s company, showing the first signs of his developing crush.

3. Their Bowling Date (Season 1 Episode 4)

The couple has their first official date on The Boys Season 1 Episode 4, “The Female of the Species.” Hughie decides to go out with Annie even though Butcher warns him that he shouldn’t be falling for a Supe.

The two talk about their first kisses during their date at the bowling alley when Hughie realizes that Annie has been playing poorly on purpose to avoid hurting his feelings. He tells her that she shouldn’t ever feel the need to hide her true self around him. 

For the first time, Annie is around someone who doesn’t want her to be someone else. This date is when she begins to develop romantic feelings for Hughie as she feels comfortable and safe around him in ways her Supe life doesn’t allow.

She doesn’t need to pretend to be something she’s not, showing that she’s also starting to fall for Hughie. 

4. Annie’s Speech at Believe Expo (Season 1 Episode 5)

On The Boys Season 1 Episode 5, “Good for the Soul,” Annie and Hughie go to the religious Believe Expo together. While the beginning of the Expo is fun, things quickly go downhill after Hughie tries to blackmail Ezekiel.

The most significant moment of note during this outing comes when Annie gives a speech on stage about not blindly accepting the truth and reveals that the Deep had assaulted her.

Hughie is the only person who claps for her brave feat. 

Even though Annie is upset about Hughie using her to get to Ezekiel, she forgives him after he apologizes and reveals that his girlfriend has recently died. It is difficult for both characters, but they can work through their anger and sadness together. 

5. Their First Night Together (Season 1 Episode 7)

A massive milestone for Hughie and Annie happens on The Boys Season 1 Episode 7, “The Self-Preservation Society.”

They sleep together for the first time at a hotel and have an honest, vulnerable conversation afterward. 

When Annie asks why they had to go to a hotel, Hughie says that he doesn’t want her to meet his father and that things at home have been rough since his girlfriend died. 

Hughie is still heartbroken about Robin but willing to be emotionally and physically vulnerable with Annie. This shows that he really likes Annie and is willing to compromise to make her feel comfortable. 

6. Annie Comes to the Rescue (Season 1 Episode 8)

Eventually, Annie finds out that Hughie has been using her to get more intel on the Supes, and she is understandably upset by the betrayal.

However, that doesn’t mean she no longer has feelings for Hughie, as made clear in The Boys Season 1 Episode 8, “You Found Me.” 

Hughie asks for Annie’s help at Church, but Annie initially rejects him. Despite this, she still shows up just in time to save him — along with Frenchie and Mother’s Milk — from being captured again after they’re freed. 

Annie showing up to rescue Hughie demonstrates that she still cares about him, even if his actions hurt her. Ultimately, she knows that Hughie is a good person at heart and decides to save him, even if it means she puts herself at risk. 

7. Secret Meeting on the Subway (Season 2 Episode 1)

In danger of being found by Supes, the Boys go into hiding, which means Hughie no longer gets to see Annie. However, as we’ve seen before, this doesn’t stop them from finding a way to meet. 

On The Boys Season 2 Episode 1, “The Big Ride,” Annie and Hughie secretly meet on the subway. Their conversation is tense, but Hughie smiles brightly upon seeing Annie. 

Their inability to resist seeing each other despite all odds demonstrates how deep their bond goes.

This brief but essential scene sets up hope that they will repair their relationship throughout Season 2.  

8. Annie Sparing Hughie (Season 2 Episode 3)

Things quickly get heated between the Supes and the Boys on The Boys Season 2 Episode 3, “Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men.” When Annie sees Hughie struggling in the cave, she tries to talk to him, but Homelander suddenly appears. 

Homelander demands that Annie kill Hughie on the spot to prove her loyalty to the Seven, and Hughie gives Annie a look of defeat, clearly accepting his fatal fate. Luckily, Butcher intervenes, allowing them to escape before Homelander can decide for her.

Hughie is willing to let himself die if it means Annie stays safe. This act of selflessness reveals that he loves Annie so much that he’s okay with giving up his life to protect her from Homelander’s wrath. 

9. Singing in the Car (Season 2 Episode 4)

The couple have a fantastic musical moment on The Boys Season 2 Episode 4, “Nothing Like It in the World,” as Annie joins Mother’s Milk and Hughie on their journey to find more information on the former Supe Liberty. 

In the car, Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire” begins playing, and Hughie, an avid fan of the artist, begins singing.

To his surprise, Annie sings along, knowing every lyric, and the two share a sweet bonding moment before Mother’s Milk tells them to calm down.

It is only a short scene, but it establishes how Hughie and Annie are made for each other. After all, Hughie’s soulmate would have to be as big of a Billy Joel fan as he is. 

10. Hughie’s Injury (Season 2 Episode 6)

The couple’s stakes are higher than ever in The Boys Season 2 Episode 6, “The Bloody Doors Off.”

Hughie gets injured after an escaped patient from a Vought Research Center attacks the Boys. 

Considering that he’s bleeding out quickly, Annie and Butcher quickly rush to get him to the hospital. Annie doesn’t even think twice before leaving the others to make sure Hughie gets treated.

She goes to extreme measures to make sure Hughie doesn’t die, such as using her powers to steal someone’s car.

Her desperation to ensure Hughie’s well-being demonstrates that her love for him runs deep enough that she’s willing to do anything to save him.

11. A Second Chance (Season 2 Episode 8)

Between all the action of Season 2, the pair rarely get time alone to talk about what they are to each other. They only have one conversation on The Boys Season 2 Episode 8, “What I Know,” to compensate for the lost time.

Even though it seems like all hope is lost, Hughie and Annie decide to give their relationship another chance. They kiss after Hughie says he will never leave her as long as she wants to be with him.

The couple giving their romance a second chance shows that they’re willing to fight for happiness together and not let this bleak world turn them against eachother.

This hope is more important than ever as Homelander grows more powerful and Annie’s position in the Seven is at risk. 

12. Hughie Reassuring Annie (Season 3 Episode 4)

In Season 3, Annie takes on a leadership role in the Seven.

Her new role causes a tense new power dynamic between her and Hughie, but they discuss it on The Boys Season 3 Episode 4, “Glorious Five Year Plan.”

Annie reassures Hughie that Homelander’s lie about #HomeLight is just for publicity.

Understanding that their love affair is just for show, Hughie expresses concern about Annie’s safety. By declaring a fake relationship, Homelander is clearly trying to manipulate Annie into breaking up with Hughie.

However, Annie and Hughie can understand the Supe’s villainous tactics and keep their relationship going as strong as ever, even if it is in secret.

13. Supersonic’s Death (Season 3 Episode 5)

Throughout Season 3, Hughie often has moments of insecurity as Annie gets to shine. But he is always a source of support for Annie, even with his doubts.

On The Boys Season 3 Episode 5, “The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies,” when Annie’s ex, Supersonic, dies, she tells Hughie that she feels his death is her fault. Hughie reassures her that she isn’t responsible for his death and that there is nothing she could’ve done to save him. 

Earlier, Hughie expressed jealousy about Supersonic returning to work with Annie. However, he understands how traumatizing Supersonic’s death is and doesn’t think twice before comforting Annie.

He’s willing to put aside his uglier emotions of jealousy and resentment to support his girlfriend, showing how vital Annie’s emotional well-being is to him. 

14. Hughie Realizes His Mistake (Season 3 Episode 8)

The couple briefly stops talking when Annie finds out that Hughie is using Temp V. Still, she’s willing to pick up Hughie after Butcher abandoned him on The Boys Season 3 Episode 8, “The Instant White-Hot Wild.” 

In the car, Annie tells Hughie that Temp V is a fatal substance, so he should stop using it. Realizing that Annie had always been looking out for him, Hughie apologizes, and the pair make up. People make mistakes in relationships, but the ability to work through them is what makes a couple long-lasting.

Even though they didn’t see eye-to-eye about Temp V, Annie and Hughie were able to work through their conflicting opinions and meet in the middle of the argument.

They worked through another round of relationship-ending problems, proving that they genuinely are endgame. 

15. Annie Joining in The Boys (Season 3 Episode 8)

After three seasons, Annie finally earns the trust of the Boys. On The Boys Season 3 Episode 8, “The Instant White-Hot Wild,” she officially gets to join the team. 

Of course, there must be a vote before she becomes a team member. Hughie enthusiastically endorses her entry on the team.

We love a supportive boyfriend moment!

Annie joining the Boys means there are more opportunities for Hughie and Annie to grow closer than ever as they officially work on the same side of this war in Season 4.
