Former Vanderbilt star and Texas Rangers prospect Kumar Rocker will undergo Tommy John surgery, Rangers GM Chris Young told reporters Tuesday.

After a storied career with the Commodores in which he was named the 2019 College World Series Most Outstanding Player as well as an All-American in 2021. Drafted 10th overall by the New York Mets later that year, Rocker did not sign over concerns with a pre-draft physical.

Rocker briefly pitched in an independent league in 2022 before being drafted again, third overall, by the Rangers. Prior to the 2022 draft, Rocker reportedly had shoulder surgery.

Prior to the injury, Rocker was pitching for the High-A Hickory Crawdads, for whom he had a 3.86 ERA in six starts.

Young said that this injury for Rocker, a torn elbow ligament, was a new injury that was not related to the previous concerns with his physical, according to the Dallas Morning News.
