Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
~Amen~
Every year I post this video. I am very proud to have called the little town of Ringgold, Georgia my home for many years. Every year we drive back down to spend the few minutes it takes to go through town, the main stretch and all the little side roads, and appreciate the flags, and honor the fallen.
May the blood cost of our freedom be increasingly appreciated and honored. And may America always be blessed with towns and people like this, who remember and honor our fallen because they value our freedom and know the cost.
If you hijack this post with political content that belongs on the other threads I will put you in moderation. This is a memorial in remembrance of our dead. Not a place to rant.
I have watched this video for years too. But this time as I listened, watched the flags ripple in the breeze, and read the names I could. Instead of my usual feeling of nothing beyond the flags and the names, my heart asked the question – Are they home safe, God, are they home safe?
Oh, how I hope they all are.
A magnificent Memorial; one of the scenes was that of the Ringgold Depot, looks like it’s been there a while, can you imagine the Troop Trains coming and going that it saw during WWII; I’m a geezer born in the peak year of WWII reared on WWII memories, I remember Troop Trains passing through my small Texas hometown, they seldom slowed down and were olive drab with darkened windows for sleeping on long legs, I assume; I’m talking about the post-war demobilization when the troops were being mustered out and going home, but what must it have been like during the mobilization/build-up.
yes
We watched an interesting movie today, “The Shamrock Spitfire” (about WW2 ace Brendan Finucane). At the end there was a verse by John Edmonds that seemed very fitting for today:
‘When you go home, tell them of us and say
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.’
God bless those who gave everything for us.
‘When you go home, tell them of us and say
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.’
The most costly ‘Pay It Forward’ investment a human being can make…

Thank you Dino….that was great.
This year the VFW held the local Memorial Day services at our family cemetery and meeting house. It always touches me deeply when they play taps and I hear the 21 gun salute. I always weep and the the boys get concerned when they see my distress. I don’t think I’ll ever get over it. One year, when at the Vietnam Wall, three of the boys came over to console me. I guess they thought that I was going to faint. I’m crying now just writing about it.
Thanks for posting this again, SD, it stirred me into action.
After watching this earlier, I told the wife to get ready, we’re going to Ringgold. Just got back. No matter how many times you witness the Memorial Day display in person, and I have many times, you are still moved to the point of tears at the sheer number of lives lost in service to our great country.
We can never repay these brave souls for their ultimate sacrifice to preserve out rights and freedom, but we can certainly keep them in sacred memory forever. Ringgold is good example of how to do that. May God bless, and God Bless America.
Always a comfort to see this each year. It is the first year in a long while I haven’t made it out to a proper Memorial Day event, but I knew I could count on Menagerie to have this for us.
The village I live close to has their flags lined up along Main St. It also provides comfort to know where I live still honors our fallen.
It is a good day to watch the movie Taking Chance. If you have never seen it track it down and watch, you won’t regret it.
Too late for that prayer. How about a prayer to keep us out of foreign entanglements….like George Washington warned us against.
Spent some time growing up near there. This is always a most respectful treat. Thank you for continuing to post it.

In the Town of Hudson Falls, NY they have Large maybe 1 1/2 x 2 foot photos in plastic bags of all the men and women who were soldiers that were from Hudson Falls.
They are on all the lamp posts on the main road through Hudson Falls. and their names are also listed.
Very Patriotic and they do this every year.
next year I am going to set out my own family’s list of soldiers who were in WWII, Korea & Viet Nam. Also going to research further back to my ancestors who were U.S. soldiers.
For my grandchildren to see and know. Set each one with their name & dates alongside our American Flag in my frontyard.
Also do not forget the politicians who sent innocent young people to die in battles and wars that should have never been engaged in. Never forget those who deserted those who fought.
My daughters once asked me, why the silence — I said, for there are no words. The honor belongs elsewhere. One must carry on, for we are now living for another purpose. The fallen must live forever, while for some the burden becomes unbearable – – Bless everyone who is here on this day, especially SD, and Menagerie, for valuing us as humans.

the tradition and spirit of remembrance day lives strong within you Menagarie. All respect here.

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel (2 Tim2:8). Let us continually give thanks unto the Lord who by His sacrifice gives us a hope that we also will be raised by Him because of our faith in Him. Thank you Lord for giving us this freedom we have and for raising up such faithful men before us who were willing to follow in your footsteps counting not their lives as dear to themselves but sacrificed all for the good of others. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
