Seeking Mavis Beacon, Jazmin Jones and Olivia McKayla Ross’ documentary about the real woman who became the face of one of the world’s best-selling typing games, was one of the most promising debuts at this year’s Sundance. And Neon’s finally bringing it to select theaters on September 13th.

A last letter from Game Informer’s former editor-in-chief.

“It is one of the great honors of my life to have worked with all of you, hit those tough writing deadlines, and shared in the joy of opening up each new issue as it arrived to see the results of all that effort,” says former Game Informer EIC Matt Miller in a long letter on Bluesky.

The publication was suddenly shut down by GameStop on Friday.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of heroes, villains, and bear-boinkers.

Larian has released another player breakdown to celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary, and it really highlights the sheer number of different decisions, paths, and states it actively supports.

We’ve picked the least-spoilery slide available, but check out the whole thread if you want to find out the most-smooched companions, the most niche endings, and how many players were turned into cheese.

Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer hits Apple TV Plus October 11th.

A journalist discovers a novel in which she appears to be the main character and all of her dark secrets are laid bare. The first trailer for the Apple TV Plus series based on Renée Knight’s book doesn’t spell out what those secrets are, but hopefully it’s better than the last time Apple tried a similar concept.

Upgrading the Game Boy with a CRT screen decimates its battery life.

Instead of opting for a third-party lighting accessory to improve the original Game Boy’s screen, modder James Channel replaced it entirely with a compact CRT salvaged from a video intercom.

Many sticks of hot glue later the Game Boy (or is it now a Game Man?) finally has a glowing screen but runs for just over two minutes on four AA batteries.

Disney’s Hulu buyout could cost it up to $5 billion more.

After Disney agreed to buy Comcast’s 33 percent stake in Hulu with an initial payment of $8.6 billion, the two companies entered arbitration to determine Hulu’s fair value. Now, Disney says in an SEC filing that it could end up paying up to $5 billion depending on the outcome of arbitration.

Audible tests a more specific way to search for audiobooks.

The feature, called Maven, lets you type prompts like, “show me fantasy audiobooks that I can complete on an 8-hour road trip.” Audible will then use AI to come up with matching audiobooks.

Audible is rolling out Maven as a beta to half of US-based users on Android and iOS. Amazon just debuted an AI-powered discovery feature on its Music app as well.

A whale joined the Olympic surfers.

Yesterday, we got a cetacean entry in the annals of photobombing. Congratulations to everyone involved, and also to me, since I have watched this clip like 10 times.

Warner Bros. Discovery may not break up after all.

The Financial Times reported last month that WBD execs considered splitting its streaming and studio business from its struggling TV networks. But now, execs have determined this may not be “the best option at this time,” according to the FT.

Instead, WBD reportedly plans on selling smaller assets, such as the Polish broadcaster TVN or a stake in its game’s business.

Ful wel kan ye songes make with thise medieval sampler from Teenage Engineering.

The EP-1320 “instrumentalis electronicum” is preloaded with Dark Ages instruments and effects, including the hurdy gurdy, gittern, tambour, plus swordfights and “two separate witches.”

Yes, it’s an even-less-scrutable version of the EP-133 sampler I couldn’t make hide nor hair of, but sore tempted am I to drop $299 and annoy the hell out of my D&D group.

Where we fallin’?

Fall Guys is now in Fortnite thanks to a new crossover announced by Epic Games (which operates both games). As part of the crossover, there’s a Fall Guys course you can play on the battle royale island. (Your current outfit will become bean-ified when you do.) Epic is also letting creators use the Unreal Editor for Fortnite to build Fall Guys levels that you can play within Fortnite.

Crash Bandicoot is coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Microsoft is adding Activision’s Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy to Xbox Game Pass on console, cloud, and PC on August 8th. Mafia: Definitive Edition is also being added to the service on August 13th. YouTube is trying to make livestream ads more tolerable.

While the platform currently cuts away from live content to display video ads, YouTube is now experimenting with live mid-rolls that will instead launch and run alongside the broadcast in Picture-in-Picture mode.

That should be less disruptive for viewers, and may also dissuade them from installing adblockers to avoid paying for YouTube’s ad-free premium service — something YouTube has been cracking down on.

Intel’s crashing CPU warranty extends to OEM models.

Intel added two years of additional warranty coverage for its 13th and 14th Gen Core processors last week, and now it’s clarifying this will also apply to processors sold without a box to OEMs or system integrators. If you’re having crashing issues you can contact Intel if you purchased a boxed CPU, or your OEM or system builder otherwise. Intel has also supplied a list of processors that will get the warranty extension, found below.

Apple TV is getting link sharing.

The latest tvOS 18 beta enables Apple TV devices to share external links with nearby iPhones or iPads — getting around Apple TV’s lack of a web browser.

At the moment, the feature is only working with promotions for Apple’s Vision Pro, but 9to5Mac notes it should expand to allow users to share other content from their Apple TV right from the tvOS app.

Disney Plus now takes you to Iceland.

In the Apple Vision Pro, that is. Disney Plus has rolled out a National Geographic edition virtual environment for its visionOS app that lets you watch movies in a snowy corridor in Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park.

The environment uses “3D models captured on-site using photogrammetry,” according to Disney’s announcement. When you watch a movie, it turns dark and shows you the Northern Lights!

Sadly, it only works in the Disney Plus app.

“Be well. Play well.”

That’s a message from former editor-in-chief Matt Miller via a post on Game Informer’s X account. “Our 33-year legacy deserves a genuine goodbye, written by a former Game Informer member,” the post starts, seemingly confirming that the Game Informer shutdown message posted Friday wasn’t written by staff.

However, after the tweet was posted, Game Informer’s X account was deleted. We’ve contacted GameStop for comment.

Update: Game Informer’s X account has been deleted.

Is Valve’s “Project White Sands” a new Half-Life?

Actor Natasha Chandel, who has done voiceover work for games like Starfield and Valorant, listed “Project White Sands” from Valve on her resume (archived link, because her site reached its bandwidth limit) before removing the listing once people discovered it, reports Eurogamer.

Valve didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment. But now I have another game to keep unreasonable hopes for.
