True Community Code of Conduct

This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participants within the True Ventures community. Our intention is to create a safe space for friendship, humor, and understanding – a space where patience and kindness lead how we communicate.

When interacting with one another, we ask that you exercise courage and grace; courage to speak your truths among one another and grace to recognize that we are all in this together and that being together makes us stronger.

Below, we’ve created steps for reporting unacceptable behavior to help maintain the pillars of our community and encourage the forging of long-term relationships you’ll value always. Violations will be taken seriously and consequences may include removal from future events.

To facilitate a healthy environment, our community strives to:

  • Be friendly and patient.
  • Be welcoming: We are a community that welcomes people of all backgrounds and identities, and we need your help to maintain that.
  • Be considerate: Decisions you make affect everyone in our community, so please be mindful of your actions and always choose a non-confrontational approach when communicating. Remember, this is a global community and English is not everyone's primary language.
  • Be respectful: Disagreements may occur, but we cannot abide personal attacks. The health of the community depends on all members feeling comfortable and supported. If you don't agree, use discretion and be polite.
  • Be confidential: At our events, we all speak freely. Press is not in attendance, and we do not post what we share with each other on social media. Please respect the idea that we are in this for each other, and the need for candor and confidentiality is paramount. That said, please note that we at True do have a duty to monitor and report any behavior that impedes upon the safety of our community members or implicates True’s fiduciary responsibilities to its portfolio companies or investors.
  • Avoid use of AI-notetaking tools: While we’re enthralled by the innovation of AI bots that can take notes so you don’t have to, we seek to protect the confidential nature of our community conversations. We may reject event admittance to your note-taking bot for now as we continue to gain an understanding of the privacy parameters of data inputted using AI tooling.
  • Be careful in the words that we choose: We are a community of leaders, and we conduct ourselves professionally. Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other participants. Harassment and other exclusionary behavior aren't acceptable.
  • Try to understand why we disagree: Both social and professional disagreements happen all the time. It is important that we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. Different people have different perspectives. Being unable to understand why someone holds a viewpoint doesn't mean they're wrong. Don't forget that it is human to err, but blaming each other doesn't get us anywhere. Focus on resolving issues and learning from mistakes.

Reporting Issues

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior or have any other concerns, please report it by contacting us at [email protected]. All reports will be handled with discretion. In your report, please include:

  • Your contact information
  • Names (real, nicknames, or pseudonyms) of individuals involved or witnesses
  • Your account of what occurred and if you believe the incident is ongoing
  • Any links to publicly available records of the incident or screenshots of the conversation(e.g., a mailing list archive, chat transcripts, or public IRC logger)
  • Any additional information that may be helpful

After filing a report, we will contact you personally, review the incident, follow up with any additional questions, and make a decision as to how to respond. If the person who is harassing you is part of the response team, they will recuse themselves from handling your incident. If the complaint originates from a member of the response team, it will be handled by a different member of the response team. We will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse.
