Burt Alvord and a practical joke.

The story (maybe the legend) goes that Arizona lawman/outlaw Burt Alvord loved practical jokes. He and Matt Burts sent a telegram from Bisbee to friends in Tombstone announcing that the, “Bodies of Burt Alvord and Matt Burts will arrive on the afternoon stage.” A large number of townsfolk turned out to meet the stage, expecting to see a couple of wooden boxes strapped to the top. They were somewhat dumbfounded to see Burt and Matt climb down out of the stage wearing broad grins. “Sure, our bodies arrived,” they laughed. “We never go anywhere without them.”
