EASTON, Mass. (WJAR) — For the second day in a row, police recovered skeletal remains near a brook behind a home in Easton.
Residents said Thursday that it's unnerving to hear a human skull was found just behind a home in their neighborhood.
Police say there's no threat to the community, but it's going to be some time before the bones are identified.
"It was kind of wow, different. I've never heard anything, like we've never had any problems with police around here," said Gerty Pierre-Louis.
Easton police said two residents found an apparent human skull at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.
"They were, for lack of a better term, exploring their property and they noticed in a brook area, the skull," Deputy Chief Philip Adams said.
The discovery prompted a large police response.
"I sit in this chair here and I look out there for 10 years and I never, there's nothing exciting goes on until today all these policemen and everything," said Mike Frisoli. "That's unusual for this neighborhood here. It's a quiet neighborhood."
As they searched the woods along the brook over the course of two days, they found additional remains nearby.
"Probably a few 100 feet, 100 yards away," Adams said.
It's unclear how long the bones had been there.
"I can't speculate to that, but they were skeletal, so it's been some time," Adams said.
The discovery leaving some wondering if it could be a young man who went missing in the area two-and-a-half years ago.
In September 2021, 25-year-old Matthew Yeomans was last seen at his grandfather's house just a few doors down on Summer Street.
"We really can't say at this time we don't have any information to identify until that is processed by the medical examiner," Adams said.
The medical examiner will conduct forensic testing on the bones.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and it's unclear how long it will take to identify the bones and figure out how they got where they were.
