Kevin (Probably) Creators on What Would Have Happened in Season 2
Now that ABC has cancelled Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, we’ll (probably) never know if Jason Ritter’s unlikely hero was successful in his mission. But we can give you a taste of what was supposed to come in Season 2.
As you’ll recall, the dramedy’s Season 1 ender concluded in March with Amy learning the truth about her brother’s quest and his friend, “warrior for God” Yvette. Speaking to TVLine for a finale post mortem, co-creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas hinted that bringing Amy into the loop would create more challenges for Kevin and Yvette.
“I don’t know how willing Amy is going to be, initially, to help out,” Fazekas said. “I think she is going to have a lot of questions and a lot to say to Yvette. That is a really interesting relationship to explore, because they’re two strong, smart women who are not necessarily on the same page. Neither one of them is a bad guy, but they have very different viewpoints. And in some ways, I think it’s going to be harder for Yvette, because she’s not going to be able to push Amy around like she can push Kevin around.”
The revelation also presents “an interesting change to, potentially, Kevin and Amy’s relationship, because they’re twins,” Butters noted. Added Fazekas: “Why was he righteous and not her? I think Amy is like, ‘You chose the wrong one on all levels. You chose the most incompetent one.’ Which also goes to her ‘What kind of decision-making process does God have? What’s happening?’ [questioning].”
One member of the family, however, was fated to stay in the dark, with Yvette only allowing Kevin to spill the beans to his sis. “That’s going to be hard for [Amy’s daughter] Reese, because now she knows that her mom is in on something that she’s not in on,” Fazekas shared. “And Reese has been sort of on board [since] way earlier, so that’s a hard thing for Reese to deal with.”

Great cast, great show. It was an especially great vehicle for Jason Ritter. Hope he finds something deserving of him soon.

I loved this show I’ve been wondering when it’ll come back and just found out it is canceled! I’m so sad. It was a good show.
This show was such a nice break from all the cop/murder etc. type shows. It’s really clever, and so different. Plus it got a 7.8 and IMDB!! Why was it canceled??
Jason Ritter was the perfect person for this character and I’m so bummed that this show didn’t continue. It was a really great cast of characters, it was nutty, something to laugh about in the current crazy world. Come on, get this show back!!

I really liked the show and was sad that it is not coming back. I loved the adventures that Kevin went on and it was so funny. I needed to know what happened to Dave.

I just finished watching the entire first season and cannot believe this show has been cancelled. In our cynical and anxiety-riddled world, this show was like a little ray of light. The writing and acting were amazing, right from the first episode, and it conveyed, with humour, messages that have never been more relevant. Is it really too late to save this show?
I agree. My 10-year old son LOVED it, and got me into it. It was so refreshing and lovely. I’ll watch when you bring it back, Creators! Especially Dustin Ybarra.

Of all shows to be cancelled. This broke my heart. It is my 9 and 14 year olds’ favorite show. There is nothing like it! We’ve lost our family show. It was like the new Touched by an Angel. Touching, bad without being hurtful or mean, good without being cliche, and entertaining without sex and violence and very female empowered.
The show didnt get cancelled bc of the show. I’m guessing somebody got blackballed. So disappointed.
Very bummed this was not renewed. The story line for season 2 sounds so fun and in interesting.

Bad deal cancelling Kevin! Just when we get something FUN and LIGHT, they dump it !!! My fave dog they got rid of!
ABC new the show would fail when they put it in that horrible time slot for that kind of show.
I don’t think it was the timeslot. Everyone DVRs now. I loved the show, but I recognize that people probably lost interest due to the slow pace. Not enough happened in the first few critical episodes when people are deciding whether to watch or quit.
Regardless of DVR’ing, the Tuesday 10 PM slot has historically been the kiss of the death for every show that doesn’t get a 2nd chance by being moved to a better night. This time slot is called “the Death Slot” the black hole that sucks in good shows.
It’s almost like they wanted it to fail – too clean with no Hollywood political agenda I guess.

I am beyond bummed! I don’t know why ABC put it where they did on their schedule, it made no sense. The writing, the cast, the brilliant lighting … I will miss this show and reading this makes it all the more bittersweet. I wish Hulu would grab this gem up and save it like they did The Mindy project. This kind of quirky show

I thought this looked so stupid from the previews, but the tv happened to be on ABC when it came on and I got totally hooked. It was so much better than how they advertised it. ABC should be ashamed of themselves because they never gave this fabulous show a fair shot. Wrong timeslot and horrible promotion. It was soooo good. I am soooo sad.
I agree. It seemed more like a drama, which is my mom’s kind of my show, not mine. But i decided to watch and was hooked. It was underrated and the advertising didn’t do it justice.
I enjoyed the entire cast they were all really family like and good chemistry I hope they can work together through out their careers again

Such a great uplifting show. Really showcased Ritter’s talents. ABC has sunk to the bottom yet again.
It’s such a shame that the networks don’t give a new show a real chance to find its audience. ABC has continued to drop the ball on good shows in favor of cheaper boring reality shows. This has really been a big problem for them since 2011 when they dumped the daytime soaps for cheap shows. Kevin is a very good show. It deserved a real chance.
This was a great show, thought maybe a bit after it’s time. I could totally see this airing after a show like ‘Judging Amy’.
Boo, this sucks I liked this show.. not many good TV shows anymore. ABC could have cut other shows , like Greys Anatomy.
I wish you could have gone on to season 2. Show started out a little slow but for me anyway it picked up and was getting more interesting.
I feel ABC is making a BIG mistake with this, one just as they did by cancelling Last Man Standing!! Luckily FOX is bringing Last Man Standing back. Hopefully ABC will reconsider as well.

Oh no! Not cancelled! I loved this little show & watched it every week. The characters were all likeable. I sure wish that the producers & network would reconsider!!! #bummer
