The category is: time jumps?
Season 2 of FX‘s acclaimed drama Pose will kick off a full year after the events of Season 1, co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed during the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday. “We’re gonna do a one-year time leap,” Murphy said, adding that the sophomore season will begin in 1989 and “end in March of ’90, when Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ was released.”
That song becoming a worldwide hit was a pivotal moment for the LGBT and ball community, Murphy says: It “took something that was unknown in the culture and made it mainstream. And [Season 2] will be about the reaction of our characters to that moment, where their community… is suddenly put on display.” Murphy doesn’t plan on asking the real Madonna to make a cameo as herself, though: “We haven’t tried to do too much of my typical stunt casting, and I don’t think we will… that’s not what the show is about.”
While the Pose writers’ room hasn’t convened for Season 2 yet, co-creator Steven Canals says the time jump is already giving him ideas: “Around that period is when we saw [playwright and activist] Larry Kramer emerge, and ACT UP. Personally, I would love for us to delve deeper into AIDS activism.” Season 2 will also “very much involve Blanca and Pray Tell’s HIV experience,” Murphy adds. “We want to be truthful about it, because it was a very dark, troubling time.”
Pose — which chronicles the ball culture world of 1980s New York City, with gay and transgender “houses” facing off in underground competitions — debuted in June with an eight-episode freshman season. FX handed it a Season 2 renewal last month.
Season One was 8 episodes, not 10.
Please, please add more episodes whatever you decide to do in the next season. I’m sad I have to wait that long.
I absolutely love this show and remember going to balls with a trans friend of mine although back then he referred to himself as a Queen.. I had the best time with him.
Just because I’m old enough to remember:
Larry Kramer’s “The Normal Heart” premiered in 1985, and the play is almost entirely about Kramer’s role in the founding of Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC), which was in THE EARLY EIGHTIES. ACT UP was founded in 1987, about a year before the POSE narrative begins.
I find it so captivating to watch. I love it and doesn’t miss a episode. To watch how they delt in life the way they lives,to see it not just all about sex Love it!can’t Hardly wait for the new season!!!!!!
I cannot WWWWAAAIITT!!!! I was HOOKED on Pose from the very 1st episode!!!
I love love love this show all the characters in it. Loved the music forgot alot of those songs. I didn’t think I would like it one show I was hooked. So happy coming back Thank you all another show by the directors.
I remember some negative feelings coming out of the community over Vogue-ing being credited to Madonna. I was surprised at how good Pose was, great casting. I think this will open up more stories. I hope Blanca is front and center, but treatment was not then what it is today… I fear the time jumps impact on her… but everything so far has been handled well…
I would be very interested to know how much the various principals at “non-profit” Southwest Key take home in salary.
Dude, yes! Pose ist amazing I spread the word about it on Tumblr and I even got my sister to watch it. I’m hella excited for season 2.
Absolutely love Pose. Can’t wait to see season 2
Happy,Happy,Happy that there is s Season #2. Love the realness that was brought in Season 1. I didn’t experience the “Balls”so this is all interesting to me. I was too busy attending “Paradise Garage “ near the village…watching the kids doing the “Hustle “.
I like the show very much. I got hooked. It’s done very well. A lot of pathos. Being a straight female, it’s an eye opener for me. I have always been aware of people being born in the wrong body and how difficult it must be to deal with it. We get a glimpse into their world. I watch all of Ryan Murphy’s work. The man is a genius.
Pose, is one of the most realistic depiction of the Ball seen in the 1980-1990 LGBT era, the show bring back so many memories, wow, I am trully amazed, if you ever need an extra, I’m here for you guys, and I will work for free!

Please do not skip a year…im sure all what you show is real. Sometimes in order for the info to get out and all characters to explain their feelings, please don’t SKIP .
This culture also was evident in other countries but in a different form in the late 80s too as well. I have this type of family/house back when I was in college which protected me from any harm from any bullies. Our mother was called “Mama san” in deference to the Japanese word that means mother (she was a bad mother a the beginning, ruining our relationships with our boyfriends, made us do bad stuff etc. and eventually she died because of that control). There were also a few” houses” in our university that competes for supremacy. This was the time I learned a lot not just about the gay culture but how to survive in the jungle of life both in and out of school at the early age. I still have contacts to all my “sisters” until now and we all shared our experiences. That’s why I can relate to this series and glued to it every episode.
I freaking love this shows the music Characters & actors are awesome I love everything about this show the whole entire 8 episodes that season 1 brought to my life are addicting I literally watch the whole season 1 twice a day, I hope & pray season 2 has at least 20 episodes & I want to give a shot out & my love Dedication to the house of Evangelista love you all the whole crew POSE SEASON 2 yeah can’t wait Iam the # 1 Fan ANdres Sanchez Jr
This is a really important show, and I can hardly believe FX ran it. I’m so grateful they renewed it.
As a trans woman there are very emotional and even triggering scenes in this series.
The show depicts a bygone but still relevant era. It’s basically a fictional drama based on Paris is Burning.
Pose is well written and well cast.
This show is fabulous, such a treat! I feel honoured to be allowed as a white girl to take a peak into this world. The characters are brilliant. Its 100% class. Please make the world aware of this wonderful, difficult, heart wrenching amazing show.
I just love pose an can’t wait for season 2
How much longer do i have to wait… i want more please.
