It will be a very happy holiday season for Timeless fans, who will officially get closure with the NBC drama at the end of this year.
In a series of tweets Thursday, Timeless writers shared that the series’ two-part finale movie — which was announced in July following the show’s second cancellation — will air in December, with production slated to begin in October. A specific date and time have not yet been announced.
As revealed in the tweets below, series writer Lauren Greer (who penned the episode “The Day Reagan Was Shot”) will handle the script for the finale’s first hour, while Arika Lisanne Mittman (“Stranded,” “The Red Scare”) will write the second hour.
John Showalter, who has directed four previous Timeless installments, will helm both parts of the finale.
“We can’t wait to take all you #ClockBlockers on this incredible journey,” the writers said in a tweet. “We’re getting to make these two hours because of you.”
As previously reported, the entire Timeless cast — including Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnjić, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit — are on board for the finale.
The Season 2 ender, which aired May 13, ended with a doozy of a cliffhanger: Future versions of Lucy and Wyatt arrived in the present-day bunker with a potential plan to save their dead teammate Rufus. (The No. 1 item on our finale wish list? Some resolution to that major twist, please!)

Cannot wait. *Bleep* you, NBC, for cancelling the series.
They actually let you have a series finale, that is much more than 99.9% of cancelled shows get
Actually we had to FIGHT for this 2 hour movie, it took months of pleading on the internet AND thousands of dollars of raised money to get a helicopter with a sign on the back and fly it over Comic con…a lot different from “letting us”. We fought for it they didn’t immediately and/or willingly give it to us. If NBC didn’t screw us over so hard in the first place we could’ve gotten a season 3 with another network. This is just a last resort. What we fans did here to get this “final chance” doesn’t compare to other canceled shows in the slightest.
Couldn’t agree more! :)
Can’t wait! Nice Christmas or holiday present.
I hope we find out about Lucy’s journal, as well as how/why she gave it to Flynn…and that the finale ends with Lucy getting her sister back!
….and they get Rufus back!
Cool… I wonder if they’ll repeat the s2 finale ahead of the 2 part conclusion.
I can’t wait!
Can’t wait!!
I think Lucy and Flynn had a fling some how, it sucks it was cancelled. I watched each show twice. Couldn’t wait till the next one. I hope the finale is what I expect it to be. Sucks it has 2 be over!!
I hope it ends right. Happy endings, but possible future TV movies! Such a shame because it was a cool way to inspire me to find out more about history. Sad no one saw how fresh this was. Best time travel I’ve seen in awhile. Love the whole cast, glad you are ALL back.
Good to know when the TV movie will premiere. I can’t wait to see it in December!
I just love the show tobad it’s going to end. But I am glad were going to get this closing episode. I hope it turns out good.❤
“The Day Reagan Was Shot” is definitely in my top five episodes of the series, so glad those writers are on board for the finale.
I agree and the director directed “Hollywoodland”!
plus again if you saw one of the deleted scenes they posted with agent christopher the person that recruited her to join the fbi was rudy guliani, and it was actually a good scene, and you had jaea and lucy freaking out going was that rudy guliani, a it was a pretty funny scene, although the best of them and i see why they couldn’t get it past the network censors was the very first scene, where lucy and wyatt they do much more then kiss, and get as close too naked on a network tv show as you can in the pool
I’m glad we get the two part ending. Still mad that they canceled this great show. Don’t understand why nobody else pick up this great show
Because NBC announced the cancellation way too late after upfronts were over! By the time they announced it no other network could pick it up. (Even if they wanted to) There wasn’t room. NBC deliberately screwed us and if the fans didn’t fight so hard for this finale we wouldn’t have gotten this.
Any network could have picked it up no matter how late the cancelation was made. Schedules can always be changed if a network really wants a show. Any streaming service could have picked it up, too, and schedules are not an issue for them.
Yes, there maybe would’ve been room for it, but what about budget? Maybe not the schedules, but budgets most likely were already planned.
Budget is exactly why Timeless has been canceled and has not been picked up. Sony cannot produce a TV show that’s a little more expensive that your usual broadcast TV show if no network is willing to pay them the licensing fees. It wasn’t profitable for NBC any longer nor is it worth the risk for other networks.
I am very happy that there will be a finale to wrap everything up, but also sad that it won’t be on anymore. I loved Timeless from the first episode. It was an awesome show.
Totally agree! Show never should have been cancelled😑:(
If so many people love the show then why cancel it to me that’s just ignorant.
Its canceled because it’s intelligent, teaches good stuff, has romance but not a lot of obvious action and very little foul language. It’s a class act show, not sensational or controversial enough for people. Americans are becoming dumber all the time with the mindless things we do. They should not cancel this.
Because it was too expensive to produce and networks are not going pay another studio that much money for a show that’s on the bubble. It’s all about money.
Going to be a nice Christmas present for me.Can’t wait to watch it!!Thank you for making this possible.
Thank you for theearly Christmas present. Can’t wait to watch it!!!
TIMELESS finales will be my Christmas presents since my family spends Christmas elsewhere. That’s what happens when you get old and can’t drive yourself anymore.
I’m sorry to hear about your family Lou.
Maybe they can take you with them.
Take care and God bless.
Too, too exciting to have a finale movie. What a shame the beancounters couldn’t see a treasure right in front of them. Must have a happy ending. Lucy and Wyatt. Flynn could end up with Emma, I think they could make a good couple. Jessica can’t be really pregnant and she has to go back to being dead. Wyatt is so sexy, gorgeous, romantic the way he looks at Lucy it makes me melt.
Can we just call this movie a really short Season 3? ;)
(After all, two episodes is all some series get…)
I can’t wait
We’re sooo excited to see the two hour finale of Timeless!! We loved the show and was disappointed it was canceled. We are happy that everyone is coming back!!! Thanks for making our day!!!! Can’t wait till December!!!!! Denise
Don’t quite understand why the cancellation but to all the writers and all the actors thank you for the great entertainment and the lesson in history
So looking forward to the return even if it’s just the finale! Absolutely love this show!
Yes, glad they’re doing a movie! Sad it was cancelled, but mayb
Thanks for not leaving us completely. Looking forward!
Happy endings all around. Lucy and Wyatt together, Rufus & Jiya together. And hey, if they can bring Rufus back, they can go back for Flynn’s family and maybe even Amy.
