There’s still one month to go before NBC debuts its freshman drama Manifest, but here’s something to tide you over in the meantime — provided you’re not getting on a plane anytime soon.
The Peacock Net on Tuesday released the first 10 minutes of Manifest‘s series premiere, which introduces us to siblings Michaela and Ben Stone (played by Valor‘s Melissa Roxburgh and Once Upon a Time‘s Josh Dallas).
On the way home from a trip with their family, Michaela and Ben — along with Ben’s son, Cal, who suffers from leukemia — opt to take a later flight back to New York City, while the rest of the family returns home on the first airplane.
“Funny how one little decision can ruin your life. But also save it,” Michaela says in a voiceover.
Montego Air Flight 828 experiences some severe turbulence while en route to New York, and it seems the plane is about to go down with Michaela, Ben and Cal on board… until a moment later, when the lights turn back on and the flight continues as if nothing had happened.
But when the airplane lands in New York (which almost doesn’t happen, given that air traffic control strangely doesn’t recognize the flight), the passengers don’t exactly get a warm welcome from authorities. Instead, they’re told that Flight 828 took off on April 7, 2013, but has landed on Nov. 4, 2018 — and everyone on board has been presumed dead for the last five years.
Manifest premieres Monday, Sept. 24, at 10/9c on NBC. Watch the show’s first act above, then hit the comments with your initial reviews.
Omg, this looks sooooo good! Do I dare get invested in a new NBC show again? #trackrecord
Looks good!
Well, this preview was a lot more detailed that the trailers that ran – what can I say, I’m in.
given NBC’s track record with shows like this I don’t think i’ll let myself watch until it’s renewed….
That’s what I was gonna say. It’s a very intriguing concept but you know they’ll just drag it out for 13-22 episodes with no “explainer” even at the end. NBC never handles these high-concept shows well and it might have been better to approach it as a limited series without the inevitable season-one cliffhanger.
Well NBC already confirmed this show is gonna be a 12-13 ep TV series for every season it hopefully has, so it is a limited series. Also, if this show does good and gets renewed, the writers can’t tell you every single thing that happens to the storyline and characters by the end of the first season finale as that’ll be really dumb and make viewers leave before Season 2 even starts.
I am going to disagree with you a bit. I do think the writers can tell the big question of why it happened in the season finale, because there should be enough other interesting mysteries and ramifications for the characters to keep viewers watching, provided the viewers care about the characters. I would also strongly recommend any writer telling a story with a big mystery of why not to try to drag that question for the entire run of the series or multiple seasons, unless they want viewers that are only watching for the gimmicky premise of their shows big mystery, those viewers are the ones that go away when they are not happy with the answers they are getting.
To clarify, by “limited series” (and perhaps I misused the term but I don’t think so) I was referring to a single season with a beginning, middle and an end, much like “The Terror” on AMC (which ironically is returning but with an entirely different cast and storyline) or “The People vs. O.J,” with “renewal” simply not in the picture.
Damn it,that is a MAJOR drawback.
Why can’t good stuff come in numerous full-length seasons?
THere’s nothing to explain. The plane fell through a hole in time. We won’t get anything more than that. The show will be focused on “that happened. now what?”
I like the premise, so despite being unimpressed by Josh’s acting ability, I’ll give it a shot.
The pilot script for this was infuriatingly bad. Preview looks no different. Pass.
This does actually sound good and I enjoy my Prince Charming but I don’t know if I dare watch and get invested in a TV program by NBC. They keep the crap and lose all the good stuff instead of capitalizing on it. So maybe when its out on Netflix and or renewed!
Looks like a one and done show to me. But I will most definitely watch. The time travel scene really reminds me of the one in The Final Countdown.
I’ll watch the premiere episode. Then I’ll wait to see what NBC does with it. You CANNOT rely on NBComcast.
I’d like them to do this as an event series that runs for 13 episodes and ends… these sort of things don’t work well if extended over multiple seasons.
This is very interesting, I will be tuning in.
I’m sorry but that acting was terrible. Sad. I’ll DVR it to give it a chance because pilots are always kind of bad but I don’t know. The acting was just really bad and the major event was a snooze fest.
This show looks familiar. Been there, done that. Voice overs really annoying. I predict this show will be cancelled or not renewed.
I wasn’t completely sold on this show at first given it’s the same Lost rehash networks have tried their hand at for years, but I must say that was an interesting teaser and I’ll surely come back for more.
Hard pass. This has been done before and much better.
Love that kind of show a la Lost. We’ll see.
Well, looks like I just did a 180 degree turn on a show I had no previous interest in…
Just don’t stretch it out.
I’m still waiting for an explanation of Persons Unknown.
