It’s the beginning of the end for The Affair, which was renewed for a fifth and final season back in July. Two weeks later, Ruth Wilson‘s Alison Bailey was killed off in a dramatic Season 4 twist.
Since then, subsequent cast departures (and one significant cast addition) have sent shockwaves through the fan base, with longtime viewers left to wonder what the Showtime drama will look like without much of its original cast intact.
According to the official logline, The Affair‘s farewell “will chronicle the aftermath of the [Season 4] finale’s horrific events and find the characters coming to terms with the consequences of their choices — as they make the realization that if they really want to change their futures, they must first face the past. This final season is about how everything does really fall apart in the end, but somewhere in that wreckage, the seeds of change finally sprout.”

Can’t lie. I clicked through the entire thing to see if Emily Browning was returning as Sierra.
I am beyond disappointed that the show has now morphed into this. Losing Ruth and Josh really stinks, the show will be lesser without them. I’ll watch to see how it all turns out, but this show has been a huge disappointment the last 2 seasons.
I fully agree with you Kate! It was so very good and interesting to start but now, meh. I’m hoping that Allison’s killer is unmasked.
They might as well have renamed it. It is a completely different show. I am not even much interested in it any more. Without Ruth Wilson and with the HORRIBLE way they killed her off it doesn’t even sound good to me.
I’m appalled at the poor choices made by the producers/writers of this formerly great series. I too will probably watch the ending even though without Ruth and Josh, it’s hardly worth it. This series was close to the top of my all-time favorites…it has now slid way down.
Quit in the middle of last season..this show lost its way
It’s absolutely not the same w/out Allison! She made the show period!!!!
100% agree! Allison and Cole ARE this show. I just binge watched first 4 seasons and am so angry at these last episodes!!!! What idiots came up with idea to kill the MAIN character?? So disappointed!
Alison made the show period!!!! I don’t need to say anymore!!!!!
The thought of listening to Helen’s neurotic ramblings and Noah’s self-pitying is more than I want to endure. I’m out.
They should have let it end last season. Allison could have moved on with or without Cole. It seems like the writers are trying to destroy the show. I will not watch.
Nope
I wanted Alison and Cole to get back together with their little girl Joanie! Very disappointing!
After reading the season jumps ahead 6 years and at least 2 of the main characters will not be in it I don’t see any point in watching it. Last season told us who killed Allison. And And
Compared to the third the season, the fourth season was a welcome shift. While outside conflicts among the cast and show runners may have painted everyone into a corner, I can appreciate Allison’s story conclusion. I honestly thought as a character she was limited and didn’t care for her much. She dealt with trauma and did irrational things to prove to herself she was in control. It was only a matter of time before her choices caught up with her. While the affair may focus on the two couples involved, the new affair, Unfortunately put Hellen once again in a terrible position. As Noah continues to struggle in all aspects of his life, he also finds himself in a terrible cycle of self destructive behavior. His kids hate him, he continues to struggle in his professional life, how he doesn’t have a substance abuse problem is miraculous.
Yeah..they should have given Ruth Wilson whatever she asked for because the show is not going to be the same without her…I don’t know why the writers and show runners do this? They want the viewers to like the show and in the end they completely change it? I would have loved to see Allison get her act together and come into her own instead she is a cliche, she finally stands up for herself against a man who is once again using her and she’s murdered. Could have been so much better. I won’t be watching.
No.
Yeah I’m OUT!
Please let Ben get caught for what he did.
Really saddened how Allison’s character arc was destroyed in such a manner. I don’t think it did her justice. Ruth Wilson made the show. I think it’s a Dishonour to her character for her to have exited so disempowered. She was always seen as weak and fragile. And her death in such a senselesss and honourless manner seemed pointless and robbed Allison’s fans of seeing her story have some sort of meaning after it all. And devastating for cole and Noah. Double heart sad for cole who fully recognized he wanted to love her again and 100% chose her. :( although I love Anna paquin I’m hoping this season isn’t a complete dud.
Looks like I have no need to renew my subscription to Showtime. No Ruth and no Josh means no watching for me. This is not the Affair that kept me hooked in the beginning.
