Dion Warren will have plenty of time to hone his superpowers: Netflix has renewed its sci-fi drama Raising Dion for Season 2.
The series stars Shadowhunters‘ Alisha Wainwright — who was named TVLine’s Performer of the Week for her work in the premiere — as Nicole, a woman raising her son alone after the death of her husband, Mark (Friday Night Lights‘ Michael B. Jordan). When Dion starts to exhibit mysterious, superhero-like abilities, Nicole must keep her son’s gifts a secret with the help of her husband’s best friend (Parenthood‘s Jason Ritter), while protecting Dion from people who want to exploit him and his powers.
Wainwright previously told TVLine that if the show were renewed, she would like to see a present-day scene that includes Mark, Nicole and Dion, something teased only briefly during the first season.
“One of my favorite aspects of that is watching Dion watch his parents,” Wainwright said. “I would love to be able to have them have that moment again, just for Dion’s sake, if and when a Season 2 comes along.” [pmc_inline_gallery]
Season 2 will span eight hour-long episodes, which is one less than the Season 1 episode count. Production is slated to begin in 2020, with co-creator Carol Barbee returning as showrunner.
Raising Dion‘s renewal comes just under three months after its first season dropped in October; our Streaming Renewal Scorecard has been updated with the pickup.

I just started watching this, and I’m loving it so far. Glad to hear it’s been renewed!
Haven’t gotten around to watching this yet, but I’ll definitely get to it now that I know it’s not one-and-done. Kind of surprised by its renewal, as I heard a lot about the show prior to its release, but I barely registered that it had dropped. I haven’t heard a thing about it — from anyone — in the past few months.
I hadn’t heard of it at all until I was randomly on Jason Ritter’s IMDB page. Netflix honestly does a terrible job marketing most of their shows. This is right up my alley in terms of genre and the types of shows I watch, and I had to specifically search for it on Netflix — it wasn’t promoted on my home page at all. Their algorithm is a little messed up, I guess.
Ooh, yay. This show is great. Starts off kinda cute/quirky and you think it is going to be one thing, but it is one of those shows that builds momentum and peels back layers as each episode goes along until you’re like… holy crap…what just happened?
I hated the big twist regarding Pat. I really liked him.
Yeah, it came out of nowhere. I’m curious where it goes from that S1 ending.
I totally agree
I actually didn’t like him so I liked that twist. Maybe he was just too much of a obvious “nice guy”? I don’t know, but there was always something that bugged me.
Same. His whole presence had a shady undertone that made me weary of him.
Yes me too
I figured it being on one of the top ten lists of 2019 Netflix that this would come soon. Looking forward to it!
Hopefully filming in Atlanta again!
Heck yeah am ready my whole family is ready we love the show but mostly is to watch Sammi Haney she’s adorable we love her and the rest of the cast♥️
Excellent!
Yay! And I’m surprised by this. I liked it, but I also heard no one rally talking about it. So, this is a very pleasant surprise coming after other Netflix i cancellations.
Can’t wait…awestruk in season 1
I’m excited for this. I hope they can get Mark back somehow.
Just binge watched Season 1 and OMG I loved it!!! It’s everything I love, Sci-Fi, dance, black love, comedy. Inclusive, but not weird. It’s AMAZING!!!!!
After moving on from “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” I just randomly started watching “Raising Dion” and feel in love with it ! I made a good choice 👍🏽
bring in season 2…cant wait
Ooh-I’m looking forward to seeing the second season! This show was amazing and good for all ages. It’s not very often that me and my nine year old daughter can sit down and watch a television show and both be happy and entertained.
Yes that’s my favorite show.
I cant wait
Love it! Really goid development of characters & not too slow or fast to keep interest
I just finished Season 1 and I am truly excited for Season 2! Especially since the show emulates for life as a single mother raising her African-America son, Donte!!!
Can’t wait!!!!
Love this show, can’t wait for the next “few” seasons.
My Granddaughter and I are waiting impatiently for the second season. Although we understand that COVID was the reason for the delay, the series is a part of our bonding time and we could not find anything similar to keep us entertained and talking about what we believe would happen next.
