Warning: The following contains spoilers from Part 2 of The Good Doctor‘s Season 3 finale.
R.I.P., Neil Melendez.
In The Good Doctor‘s Season 3 finale, the surgical attending (played by original cast member Nicholas Gonzalez) died after succumbing to internal injuries sustained in Part 1’s brewery collapse. He passed away after sharing tearful goodbyes with former boss Aaron Glassman, ex-girlfriend Audrey Lim and third-year resident/current love interest Claire Browne.
Below, Gonzalez weighs in on his character’s tragic fate, confirms his ‘ship of choice and reveals why he’ll always be grateful for his time on the ABC medical drama — even if his exit felt “a little early.”
TVLINE | To confirm, it wasn’t your decision to leave?
It was a creative decision [that] just kind of came at a good time, you know? There’s a lot about this job that I loved and was honored to do, and a lot of that came out of the family that we created behind the scenes. But there also comes a time when you feel it’s time to move on, and I feel like I’m leaving Good Doctor at a really great place.
TVLINE | How so?
I love how we started. It kind of felt like even though we were this big network show, it was still like this “little show that could,” because we were taking a big chance on people’s hearts and people’s understanding, and I really enjoyed being a part of something like that from the beginning… So it’s been a joy to do the show, but at the same time, as an artist, you feel like you’re just raring to get out there and take on the next challenge.
TVLINE | When did you find out that Melendez wasn’t long for this world?
Right after the new year. We only had about six more episodes to go…
TVLINE | So you really only had a few weeks to process everything…
Which is really interesting, you know? Filming all that with the knowledge [that Melendez was going to die].
TVLINE | What was your reaction when you first read the script?
It was tough because I felt like nothing was good enough. It wasn’t going to be a good enough goodbye because, you know, I think it’s a little early… so I think that nothing was ever going to really feel appropriate. But it was very important to me that the relationship with Dr. Lim be honored. I knew what was happening with Melendez and Claire, but I had to make sure that [his relationship with Lim] was not something that in any way seemed like second fiddle… You needed to feel the veracity of it and the present nature of it. And I hope that’s what came across.
TVLINE | In the finale, you have memorable last scenes opposite Richard Schiff, Christina Chang and Antonia Thomas, but none of your other castmates. Knowing that you were approaching the end, did you start tracking your final scenes with Freddie Highmore et al.?
I think I realized [it] a little late, but there were times throughout [production] where I was the only one who knew. It made me approach each day with a little bit more of a sacred approach, realizing that these days were numbered and they were to be enjoyed with people that I really loved working with.
TVLINE | There was obviously a lot going on in this two-parter, but I was surprised that you didn’t get one last scene with Freddie.
Freddie was there for my final day, watching every scene from behind the camera in support.
TVLINE | Let’s talk about each of the goodbyes you did get, beginning with that final exchange with Glassman. You and Schiff didn’t share much screen time in Seasons 2 or 3, but that scene sure did resonate.
Here was a man, a doctor [that Melendez] has a lot of respect for. They’re both pretty prickly personalities, but understand and respect that in each other. [They’ve] in some ways been an older bull and a [younger bull] keeping distance from each other. And when we’re brought into this room, under these circumstances, it’s all of the things that you can’t really say, or you don’t even get to fully say, until Glassman [goes] and pays [Melendez] the compliment.
TVLINE | There was a lot that went unsaid in that last scene between Melendez and Lim. Were you disappointed with how their relationship ended earlier this season?
Yeah, I think there was definitely unfinished business. There was just so much history, so much love and respect. [These were] two people that really got excited about what they did and understood each other, and therefore forgave their [shortcomings]… It would have been fun to watch them navigate [that relationship] a little more.
TVLINE | Melendez’s final goodbye is not with Lim, but with Claire. The resident professes her love to her attending, then finds that love reciprocated. What did you make of that scene?
Melendez is really discovering how he feels. It really wasn’t until all of this that he accepted how he felt about her, because I think it’s something that really snuck up on him. He can think she’s cute, he can think she’s smart, he can be intrigued, but he knows he’s not going to get involved.
TVLINE | How did you feel about them as a potential couple? At the end of the day, he was her boss…
I don’t know. I mean, that was always proposed to me. People felt it early on, even just from the pilot, so it was always that thing that people kind of talked about… In life we have certain attractions, but it doesn’t always mean that’s somebody that you pursue romantically. For me, I always felt like maybe that was a long burn that could always kind of be there. There are two people that respect each other, have grown to love each other as human beings, as people and as friends, but the idea of going after [that] was never something I was totally comfortable with because I felt like we had created this very morally upstanding character in Melendez.
TVLINE | If Melendez hadn’t died, how do you think he would have reckoned with his feelings for Claire?
I think he would have, of course, given [into his feelings], but I think him navigating his way out of that and figuring out what the right thing to do is would have been as interesting.
TVLINE | Putting aside your personal feelings about Melendez and Claire, what was it like shooting that last scene with Antonia?
It was tough because there were obviously a lot of real emotions. Like Dr. Melendez, I was saying goodbye to [someone who had been] in my life for three years… Antonia and I [became] such good friends. We, too, love each other, and that’s why this hurts saying goodbye. And that was interesting to do over and over and over again for a whole day.
TVLINE | Do you feel like you’ve done everything with Melendez that you set out to do?
Probably not… It’s tough, because we’re not a Grey’s Anatomy. We’re primarily a procedural that has a lot of smatterings of heart and character around it. As much as we’re an ensemble, the subject matter isn’t so much [about us], you know? Things are parceled out little by little, which can be tough for an actor in many ways, and lot of times I’m serving medicine and getting other jobs done when other parts of the character were kind of neglected. But that’s part and parcel of what makes this show a little different, and I think that also is maybe what keeps audiences coming back, because they want that taste of something, but we never dole it out cheaply.
So to answer your question, I feel like there was still a lot on the table for Neil, and I was really enjoying watching him learn his lessons and his, you know, constant pursuit of perfection that of course we’re all going to fall short of.
TVLINE | Were there any specific Melendez storylines you wanted to explore even further?
I’m still curious about [his] family. We were introduced to my sister with Down syndrome in one episode. There were also so many little [deleted] scenes. The storylines are all there, but the little scenes that we’re missing really changed the dynamic. There were a lot of scenes with Antonia Thomas [who plays Claire], [and] there were probably an equal number of scenes with Christina Chang [who plays Lim] — these different kinds of moments [that went beyond] watching people fall in love… Those were on the cutting room floor because we don’t have the time for those.
TVLINE | One that came to mind was his desire to have children. That was the whole reason he and Jessica called off their engagement in Season 1.
Yeah, but it informed everything that I did thereafter. Whenever the case involved a child or a baby, there was almost a little more of a tension. I was always kind of sure to put that in there… I don’t know if you remember, but what we really got down to at the end with me and Jessica over wanting kids [was that] I felt that I needed to concentrate on my career and not have kids.
TVLINE | Oh, right.
He knows what he loves and what he’s good at, which is surgery. You may want other things in your life, but you can’t deprive yourself of that thing that drives you. So he was just kind of caught between tensions. It would be interesting to see which one was going to win out as he grew older.
TVLINE | We are speaking the Friday before the episode airs. Do you plan to tune in on Monday night? Or do you need some time?
Well, you know, my family doesn’t [know]. I mean, some people do, but my mom [and] dad are kind of in for a big surprise… It’s important to me for them to see it and to experience it not knowing what’s happening. Hopefully the work that I do in those last few episodes [will] in some way be a goodbye for them as well. I know that it’s something that they’re obviously proud of, and fans of not just me, but of the show itself. So it’s going to be hard, but I think I’ll probably be watching it because I haven’t seen it yet. I could probably get a link, but a part of me wants to watch it along with everyone else, as hard as it is for me to watch myself.
TVLINE | Last but not least, what is it that you’ll take with you from this experience?
I’m immensely proud of how incredibly received [the show] has been. When I am stopped about the show, it’s not just because I’m “that guy” on the show on TV. It’s because everybody’s got a story — a personal story on why this show has hit them so hard, or what it means to them or a family member, with or without autism. To be a part of something like that, that felt bigger than all of us, yet so small when we were together making it, is probably one of the most unique experiences about this.
Good Doctor fans, were you shocked and saddened to see Melendez go? Hit the comments to mourn the character and share your thoughts on Gonzalez’s departure.
That was tragedy porn, not good writing. I haven’t been this pissed off since the HIMYM finale – and I still complain about that. I can confidently say I will not be returning for the fourth season.
Too early to have Melendez leave, his character will be missed. Bad decision!!
I feel the response is exactly what the writers were after. Talk about real drama and suspense to end the year! Once the dust/shock/heartbreak is settled, pretty sure we’ll all be back to see the impact of the death on Claire et all in Season 4. It’s a ballsy move, but with Shaun there, I’ll be there.
Not me, most likely. Flattens out the drama too much. He was such an integral part of the team.
I’m sad but not as much as when Dr Kalu left. Melendez did that snarly thing a lot which annoyed me, but I did grow to like him but not like Dr Kalu.
This is the first comment on here that made me laugh. That Menendez side mouth thing will NOT be missed. I’m excited for another season of the show and seeing the new direction they decide take things in. I think the show will be better for it.
I learned something from your comment. I have watched every show because I love this program so much, but I cannot remember Dr Kalu. If I go back to the 1st program will I see Dr Kalu? I want to find out why I don’t remember him or her.
I’m surprised to see such negativity toward Lea. She’s the one person Shaun can truly be himself with, the person he has come to be able to keep engaging with at points where he would have emotionally disconnected with others. She accepts him for who she is, and she doesn’t walk on eggshells. She’s always been honest with him, including when she turned him down. She’s a mess (and I’d like to see her be less of one because she’s sweet), but so is Shaun. They’re both hard to live with, but they make each other more, as they said in the episode. I didn’t necessarily care if they got together, but I loved their friendship. When Shaun realized he was in love with her, I then did want them to be together. I’m glad they didn’t do a will-they-or-won’t-they thing, which is probably the thing I hate most about TV shows, and I hope they’ll do a lot of exploring the challenges they both have in a realistic, compassionate way. (Also, I find it weird that Shawn almost smashes her beloved car and screams at her, and nothing came of it. That was really disturbing.)
I know I won’t watch next season melandez was the only reason I watched. Not fond of shaun or Leah character
I only watch for Freddie.
Me too, won’t be watching now that Melendez is out, really wanted him and Claire together- it was a silent chemistry.
Yes, He was an important part in Shaun’s life and career. I wanted to see them work and learn more from each other as characters especially with the way he defended him when the new Chief had side lined him at first
loved his character Would have loved to see him and Claire have a relationship as there seem to be a lot of love between them to shame he had to leave the show he was a great character and a great actor seen him in a few movies which he is excellent and what a gorgeous man really what are the handsomest man in the universe good luck to him in the universe shame to say goodbye
I agree I am very disappointed. I loved his character and even wanted much more of him in every episode. So many possible good stuff could have been shown. So disappointed couldn’t get it out of my mind. I even dreamt about it and in the dream he comes back ?. I’d like to see the mendez character somehow be brought back a brother or something. I will miss him terribly. Enjoyed his character as much as dr Murphy. Thought so much more between dr murphy, Menendez and claire episodes
This is painful. I did cry after watching this… Not sure i want to see whatever they want to act in the next season… I still cant believe it…
i shed a tear too, bernice, but that’s what this show has always done to me, and will continue to do, with or without doctor melendez.
i love everything mr david shore has done for us so far and i’ll stick around to watch more.
i think melendez was no way the cornerstone and aside from vaguely good looks wasn’t that appealing on screen. so i am excited for the new hottie, and season 4,5,6,7,8,9….
Without Gonzakes , the shw wont lst andvthey better bring on another good looking man on at least as goisvlooking asbGonzales! i love blondes, but he changes my mind aakond with othrr hitties lije him that were abd are exican or psnard orvfrench ( same difference . ….. whatever.
I do agree…. he will be tremendously missed. What a great actor, a great character !!
I totally agree with Sheri!
He was an integral part of the cast
I think he’ll be missed initially but pretty soon people will get over it. He’s always been more of a solid background player. Never stellar or stand-out as an actor. Excited for the new direction they take things next year… Even today, with the dust starting to settle, I think it makes a lot of sense. Mendez strolled about and oversaw things but I never really connected with him emotionally other than through his interactions with Shaun.
Whether or not fans get over it will depend on the next character that is brought onto the show coz if the chemistry doesn’t work, the show will be cancelled over someone’s godlike complex and selfrighteousness, thus killing not just the fun for the rest of us but the whole gist of the show. Which is to spread awareness of people and families who deal with autism.
Which I think is too selfish. They could have given him more time since they do find themselves to be creative.
Sheri, without researching for the answer, do you know what is the ethnic background of the actor Nicholas González of The Good Doctor? There’s a reason for asking you this strange question, thank you.
Terribly disappointed with the utterly awful decision to kill off Melendez ! What a tragedy not to mention a totally failed opportunity to see his and Claire’s love story evolve. Neil should’ve been killed off, nothing happening with him, a totally boring character. Cannot reiterate what a truly disappointing season finale… can’t even be happy about Shaun and Leah, too angry about Melendez dying !
Totally agree; loved Melendez character.
Not sure I’ll watch the next season. Melendez and Shaun were the best characters on the show. Why kill off the best character???
Pretty sure Shaun is far and away the best character.
Shaun is great but Melendez added that needed balance on the show. It is a fail for me.
Totally agree! I loved Melendez’ character and wanted to see where he and Claire would have ended up
I agree, so surprise they killed Melendez off. This showi sn’t existing enough anymone
I totally desagree!! I’m shocked for this decision, don’t have a sense. Why?? I don’t know imagine how the serie could go on… I’m very sad and disappointed.
This kill off ruined it for me. I love the show but to kill off a vital member. What were you thinking.
Don’t know if it will be ant good now.
I agree!
I agree!
I agree!
Not a good move to end Dr Melendezs character. Dont know if I’ll be watching as much.
Ferly? Neil *is* Melendez. The character was Dr. Neil Melendez.
Ferly pretty much sums up how I feel right now. That being said, I loved Game of Thrones-the books- and one of the things that made the books so great is that no character was too important. Anyone could die. This is how real life is and so makes for more realistic writing and more dramatic emotions. Life is not a Disney movie so it was pretty bold of the writers, producers, and directors to do this with Melendez. He is not going to have a problem getting other jobs. I am sure he has already been sought after. And from the interview above he obviously puts a lot of thought into his character. Which means there is just another show I can look forward to watching….instead of going to the gym 😉
Totally agree. Hated the whole show. Will not watch again.
In agreement with you CE! So angry at the writing of the finale. I ablosultely LOVED this show until the end. Will NOT be returning for S 4. I thought the direction was going to be that Melendez got a liver transplant from one of the deceased victim’s (possibly the boy) and he would survive. Boy, was I surprised & pissed. Loved that a show was created around a high functioning autistic person, but it turned into so much more. Can’t tell you how many drs & nurses I told about this show. But my support has ended since you killed off one of THE BEST characters.
really? one of the “best”? meh.
Yes, one of the BEST. I looked forward to the show to see Melendez and Claire, not necessarily as a couple, just as themselves, they were the top 2 in my opinion. Glassman, Andrews, Lim and Park I also liked. Murphy, well the show is about him and I did like watching how he put things together to figure out stuff in the hospital. Morgan, Lea and Carly – did not miss them if they were not on screen.
Those are my opinions and you are entitled to yours.
agree!
have to say i disagree. thought it was a fitting end to a character who has been seen less and less this season anyways. and am excited to see who else they bring in next season. shows have to keep things ticking over.
Dr. Melendez was my favorite character! I am crushed.
Yup, won’t be watching next season. Too many BAD changes to the cast!
Daw
Melendez was such an instrumental part of the show. A very intriquing character. I believe his death was unwarranted and will eliminate some of the interest in the show for viewers.
Who’s this?
You got rid of the only reason I watched the show
You are the weakest link
Goodbye
Too bad. Although TGD is never gonna be the same without Melendez, season 4 is off to an interesting start.
I totally agree. Bored with the other story lines, don’t care about Shaun and Lea. Really liked Melendez. Dumb screen writing. I assume there was an argument of some kind.
I’m really sad, would have loved to see Dr Melendez and Claire relationship development. It was too soon. Shaun was the initial reason I became interested in the series but other characters grow on you and just when I was getting excited it came to a sudden end, I am truly saddened. However I will continue to watch.
* Being that I’m not able to edit it
and don’t what delete my comment it should be Dr. Mendez not Melendez my bad.
It was so hard to root for Sean and Leah knowing that Melendez died, Park is leaving and Resnik may never operate again…Im disappointed in the creative turn the season ended with. Personally it’s an F for me
Totally agree!
WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!! TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY!!!!!
I totally agree. Dr. Melendez should not have died, it was way too early for his character and unfinished love that have not even started between him and Claire. Not fair! Huge disappointment…
I agree
I agree totally
Agreed. There are truly uninteresting characters that they could have killed off; why him? He was interesting – balanced out all the other characters and his death was too abrupt….bad bad creative decision
EXACTLY!!!
Exactly how I feel
I am reeling from the death of Dr. Melendez! It is a huge loss for the show. Also, I don’t like the character of Leah. She’s a whiny, selfish woman, and Sean is too good for her!
Saun isn’t even good for himself. Lol
I agree. Shes a selfish, superficial flaky jerk. I think Carly was so much better for him. I didn’t want the woman he saved at the brewery to die, but I did want Shaun to keep his promise to her to find real love.
Carly is submissive, and doesn’t stimulate Shawn like Leah does. He may not love Leah, but he loves how Leah makes him feel. You don’t want to let go of that, regardless of the consequences.
Leah is not right for Shawn! I really do not like her character. she is a mess and thats the last thing someone like Shaun needs, he needed Carlie . And Dr Mendez!! the writers obviously aren’t in touch with the fans of the show, he is a fan favorite. I didn’t like the romance thing between him and Clara I don’t think he would have fallen in love with her because he was her boss I think he was really trying to be a mentor to her. but Clara always falls in love, remember the 1st guy that had to transfer because of her? This is really screwed up.Shawn should not be with Leah, Mendez should not be dead and he should never had confessed his love for Clara it should have been Lim with him at the end. bad writing.
Funny that you perhaps classify yourself as a fan 9f the show yet you don’t know the names of 2 main characters, lol. It is Dr. Neil MELENDEZ & CLAIRE. Not Mendez and freaking Clara! Jeeesh, lmbo! Fans these days!
Yesss I agreeee
I totally agree withAlly’s comment.
A true disappointment all around.
Haven’t been this upset and mad about a bad writing decision.
I totally agree with you
I’m going to have to say good riddance to The Good Doctor after this one. I could tolerate Shaun/Lea getting together (despite my dislike of the pairing) because I saw it coming from a mile away. But killing Melendez?! It’s time to let it go.
I wish Melendez didn’t die. Not necessary
I totally agreed that Dr Melendez died too soon and I would like to see the relationship with Dr. BROWNE bloom. Can the show brings back Dr. KAU NOW?
I applaud them for doing this. I really liked his character, but you don’t get to choose who dies in real life. Ballsy move and I hope it works out for the show.
I agree, although I’m disappointed that we won’t see a relationship blossom with Claire. I never really liked Melendez’s character. I’ll keep watching.
Well stated, and 100% agree.
I always looked forward to this show but after tonight forget it you killed off such an awesome character. This sucks!
I’m pissed. Why of all people did Neil have to die. Claire aside because I did want them together ( it’s like Ripley and Vic in Station 19. Still not over that) Even if he stayed single their was no reason for him to die. If any Leah not no one should have died. Why do shoes always have to kill someone off. Even Nick was surprised. If anyone made sense to die is Lim or Leah. Their characters are not essential to any storyline. Half the time we never see her and Leah is a waste of screen time. The way she treated Shaun, even though he has annoyed me to no end of the season, Leah is just their for Shaun and the show can function without her. And Neil being killed was the wrong. Neil has a balance and he kept the whole staff balanced. He was a peace maker. I’m done watching The Good Doctor. Great 2 1/2 season. I’m over it. Freed up my TV schedule now.
Sorry.. just noticed my typos.
I’m pissed. Why of all people did Neil have to die. Claire aside because I did want them together ( it’s like Ripley and Vic in Station 19. Still not over that) Even if he stayed single their was no reason for him to die. If anything Leah should have died. Why do shows always have to kill someone off? Even Nick was surprised his character was being killed off for creative direction. If anyone made sense to die it is Lim or Leah. Their characters are not essential to any storyline. Half the time we never see Lim and Leah is a waste of screen time. The way she treated Shaun, even though he has annoyed me to no end towards the end of the season, Leah is just there for Shaun and the show can function without her. And Neil being killed was the wrong. Neil has a balance and he kept the whole staff balanced. He was a peace maker. I’m done watching The Good Doctor. Great 2 1/2 season. I’m over it. Frees up my TV schedule now.
I wish I could fast-track myself through writing school and land a job rewriting the finale of TGD.
Melendez dying was completely unnecessary and for shock value which certainly worked, but to what end? They sacrificed an excellent character who was kind of the glue of the team. Not a great move. Sean and Leah ending up together was predictable and a bit nauseating and by the end I’d had enough. I will still stick around if there is a next season, but who knows when that will be given the state of the world right now.
I agree with you. We couldn’t even celebrate the fact the Shaun gets his happy ending as the show is about him or the awareness of people with special needs. Will stick around to watch the 4th season and I hope, for the sake of Shaun, that it’s worth it. Otherwise, that brutal sacrifice due to someone’s creative ego was all for nothing.
We won’t get to appreciate the world of autism and learn more about it if the show is cancelled because fans have rejected the new line of chemistry of the new characters.
The creative directors and script writers have their work cut out for them.
I agree. Leah or Lim should have died if anyone had to go. Especially Leah.
I agree with you. I see no reason for neil to die! I like him. He was the balance of the show!
I wish they didn’t kill neil off . I would have liked to see neil snd dr. Brown get togather. If you had to kill someone of chief surgon or dr glassmen after all he been through but im glade he did make it. Looking forwsrd to sep when season 4 starts
Thank you for portraying such an interesting character. I did not like Dr. Melendez at 1st, but he grew on me. You will be missed. #RIPNeilMelendez
Same for me, did not like Melendez at first but over time I changed my mind. Though I wish he hadn’t been the one to go, bad stuff like this happens and made a TV drama feel like real life.
Yes, one thing is true. His death makes the show feel like real life. And that is a great reason to continue to watch this ground breaking show.
He was one of my favorite charcters on the show, im not sure that ill watch next season. could this be a bad dream that shawn has and you fix your horrible mistake like they did on Dallas back in the day when Bobby died!
Total agree with Julie! The best idea yet!
I AGREE!! OR have someone notice he’s still breathing. This was unacceptable. I’m like… did this really happen??? I know it portrays real life but I deal with enough real life. Bring Melendez back PLEASE. If not, I won’t be watching next season.
I really loved him AND it was nice to see a minority with such a strong presence
I loved Melendez and very upset he is gone
I dont think a lot of ppl cared if Shaun & Leah go together. We were to busy hoping Melendez didnt cuz he didn’t need to die. I thought it ws Claire’s opportunity to know what true love felt. Melendez was one of the best actors on the show and I know his presence will be missed.
I very much agree with you Nina. It is very sad indeed. As Mr. Gonzalez said- Neil’s family background was never shown in the show except for his sister that too very briefly- that is so unfair to his character- neither has Dr. Lim’s been shown yet; they are amongst the outstanding characters in the show. I really feel bad knowing that a lot of good and important scenes had been deleted as Mr. Gonzalez said- this could have also caused him to exit the show. Anyway, wishing Mr. Gonzalez A Very Bright Future Ahead Of Him- you are a wonderful actor; but we will really really miss your character of Dr. Neil Melendez a lot for sure. Thank you so much.
He wasn’t written out it wasn’t a choice
Meant to say he was written out
hmmmm. with nick’s industry reputation i reckon something else was underneath this.
yep… i’m with you there. bet the cast are breathing a sign of relief.
Soooooo sad to see Dr. Melendez go. He was great and I wanted so much to see him and Claire really get together…😥
Oh no. Gonzalez is gone. Not watching season 4
I cannot even believe what I watched tonight! Killing off Dr. Melendez was way too disappointing!! I have watched every episode of every season of this show and I am not happy about this decision at all! 😣
Nothing to look forward to next season. Guess I will watch something else. Not a fan of Leah. She should be the one leaving. Why Neil?
I am debating on even watching next season! When I found out someone wouldn’t make it, I was hoping it would be Leah,, because I don’t really care for the character at all. Absolutely loved Neil! This was a huge mistake for the show.
Why would they kill him off?!
Loving the story line with him and Claire
There was no reason to kill him off. So much more story to tell with him.
Way to to loose fan base. I’m not going to watch anymore. Afternoon Shawn he was my favorite character. So disappointed in this show
I think Leah should have been written out I agree with janja. Away
I was shocked about Dr. Melendez it all happed so quick. I did not want to see Sean with Lea I really liked Carley and did I miss something where is Glassmans wife?
Glassman’s wife isn’t a regular. She doesn’t add much to the show.
I am shocked and saddened that they killed off Dr. Melendez before him and Claire even had a chance to see where their feelings would take them. So not happy!
…SUCKED!! Killed off wrong person….would have been better if Leah was crushed and died…HATED her character!! I will miss Dr. Melendez on the show 😪😔😫😭 I thought Sean would make it in time to be able to miraculously save Melendez. Not sure I can return and go forward watching Leah and Sean – Yuck…Leah
That’s what I kept hoping for. Wrong character killed off. Wish there was more scenes between he and Claire.
I think killing off Melendez was a bad idea. This show doesn’t have to be a Grey’s Anatomy, but think about why that show has lasted this long… strong characters that fans fall in love with, drama, intrigue, and good writing with intense plots. Do not kill fan fav characters that want to remain!!
Officially done watching. Sick of Lea (character) and not a fan of the “death.”
The Good Doctor is a great show, but what are we going to do without Dr. Melendez. I’m very upset about you letting him die.
I cried like a baby!!
Oooookay, so, wow. Yeah. Was definitely not expecting that. Damn. I’m going to miss him and his character. I wish him the best with whatever he goes on to do next.
.
I also really wish Shaun and Lea hadn’t gotten together at the end. Way too much crap they have to deal with. If they’re going to go that route with them, then I hope they really DO address all the issues they’ve had with each other in a fair, honest, respectful way next season, at the very least.

I’m also really sad about everything with Park, both how things with his patient ended and the fact he may be leaving, too. Talk about a hell of a reset for next season.

So sad… 😥😕
