Lucifer‘s Tom Ellis Officially on Board for Potential Season 6 at Netflix
Contract stalemate, begone!
Following protracted negotiations that imperiled a potential sixth season of Lucifer at Netflix, titular leading man Tom Ellis has formally inked a new deal with the show, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively. The development all but assures that Lucifer will be renewed for a sixth season, although a formal pickup has not been made. Netflix also has yet to announce a premiere date for Season 5.
As we reported last month, renegotiations between Ellis and Warner Bros. Television came to a standstill after the actor allegedly rejected the studio’s latest offer. Ellis already has a Season 6 deal in place, so depending on the circumstances, his failure to honor the existing deal would’ve put him in breach of contract.
Reps for Netflix and Warner Bros. declined to comment.
It was back in February that Netflix informed Warner Bros. that it was interested in extending the hellacious drama’s lifespan beyond the previously announced (and forthcoming) fifth and “final” season. Two weeks later, the studio closed new deals with co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson for a Season 6. [pmc_inline_gallery]
After airing for three seasons on Fox, Lucifer was “rescued” by Netflix in June 2018, just weeks following its cancellation. At the time, Ellis called the backlash to the cancellation — and a subsequent #SaveLucifer fan campaign — “nothing short of ridiculously overwhelming,” adding: “Since doing Lucifer, I’ve done press in various parts of the world, and I’m fully aware that this show is much more popular than what it had seemed to be on Fox… So I’m not surprised about people being angry. I just wasn’t ready this tsunami of love that came with it.”

I think they were planning on it when this held it up, now I think the pandemic is holding everything up because I have convinced myself that some portion of Lucifer didn’t do exactly a backdoor pilot, but laid Easter Eggs for the live action Sandman series. And they probably want to keep them closer together.
Since it was NETFLIX that initiated the Season 6 extension idea, I’d say this is a done deal.
they wouldn’t have gone through all this trouble if netflix didn’t plan to do a season 6, it’s going to happen.

They don’t KNOW yet. The post production work was halted due to coronavirus quarantine. They cannot finish it until people are allowed to return to work SAFELY.
Yeah. They need to know whether to promote it as the final season they had been planning it as, or not. What I wonder is: will they change season five’s finale to fit better as a season finale than series finale? And if so, how?–dunno if I want to see the perfect ending and then have a “but wait, a new threat!” tag tagged on there. I’d rather the perfect ending move to the actual end… Unless they do have an idea for something better.
But anyway, yay! I’m glad they worked it out.

People really need to be allowed (socially speaking) to express joy and enthusiasm about what they love, even relatively small things, lest the horrors of this world relentlessly drive us all into the forking ground.

Dear Lucifer: So, you weren’t ready for a tsunami of love… how about that PLUS a freakin’ tornado of adoration, PLUS an eon of unabashed worship…? I may be an ancient 76 years old, but never, and I do mean NEVER, have I been so smitten by a TV series. Every Sunday my partner and I binge-watch “Lucifer,” at least five episodes; every morning I watch an episode while on the treadmill; I cannot even begin to consider watching any other series… so, please, try to understand, at least a little, what you mean to your fans of all ages.
Before “Lucifer,” I never heard of Tom Ellis. Now, I will never FORGET Mr. Ellis. His portrayal is a masterpiece.
Cannot wait for the 5th season to begin. I’m in serious need of a Maze fix!

I’m pretty sure this was never a real problem; given how hard Tom fought to save the show, I suspect this was rather a problem created artificially to see how popular the show still is. I’m glad we can now get a Season 6 and really hope Netflix shares the opinion of thousands of Lucifans and renews the series soon. :)

How about moving Lucifer to FX?? Just a thought. Think it would be a perfect match.
Cable still exists? I would never want to curse a show to a non-streaming network. The reach of Netflix is amazing and not to mention no censorship. I only watch shows they are on Netflix or Hulu. The only way shows will survive now is with network bundle apps as cable and live packages keep dwindling every year as that format is outdated.
So tons of other shows on cable must be dead then. I mean, Walking Dead, Doctor Who, and others can’t survive according to you. Idiot.
Those shows came out when cable was still relevant and most fans just buy the seasons on digital like I do for TWD. Also don’t call me names.
FX had its chance to snap up Lucifer when FOX cancelled it. Netflix is a bit more lenient than a network is so Lucifer is right where it belongs, on a streaming service. If you don’t want to pay streaming service monthly fee, you can always wait till the DVD’s come out. So no, FX would not be a perfect fit IMHO.
FX is super lenient, they let their shows drop F-bombs now, only thing they’re still prudish on is nudity
It’s weird how America allows everything else but draws the line at nudity. While with Europe nudity is almost a requirement.
I’m so incredibly happy since it will help with my sadness of SPN coming to a close. I just really wish they would put Season 5 out already! I’ve loved Tom Ellis since he did Rush which I absolutely adored also. So wish we could’ve started a campaign to save that show. They should of given that another season to find its audience.
I enjoyed watching Rush also. But without Tom Ellis moving on after it was cancelled, we wouldn’t have him in Lucifer. And Lucifer probably wouldn’t be as wildly popular as it is right now. That’s how I look at it. I’m looking forward to season’s 5 and 6 now.
