Warrior Nun‘s fight is over. Netflix has canceled the fantasy series after just two seasons, our sister site Deadline reports.[pmc_inline_gallery]
The cancellation news comes less than a week after Warrior Nun — with the release of its second season — landed on Nielsen’s latest U.S. streaming ranking of streaming originals. With just four days of eligibility for Season 2, Warrior Nun made its chart debut at No. 4, (distantly) trailing Manifest, The Crown and Love Is Blind.
Creator and showrunner Simon Barry posted his reaction to the show’s cancellation on Twitter, thanking the fans for all their love and support. Read his full statement below:
I’ve just found out that @netflix will not be renewing #WarriorNun – my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/eZIBa4tJYm

Warrior Nun centered around Ava and the Sister-Warriors of the OCS who “must find a way to defeat the angel, Adriel, as he attempts to build his following into the dominant religion on the planet,” per Netflix’s official description.
The short-lived series starred Alba Baptista as Ava Silva, Lorena Andrea as Sister Lilith, Kristina Tonteri-Young as Sister Beatrice, Tristán Ulloa as Father Vincent, Thekla Reuten as Jillian Salvius, Sylvia De Fanti as Mother Superion and William Miller as Adriel.
Warrior Nun was based on a comic book character created by Ben Dunn.
TVLine’s Streaming Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect Warrior Nun‘s cancellation. Are you disappointed by the show’s untimely end? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
Yet again a WLW show cancelled by Netflix. Shocker.
What’s that now, something like 12 wlw shows cancelled across all tv this year alone.
I think only a goddamn idiot would miss the pattern at this point. It’s really getting tiring.
The pattern is that they made too many and the audience just isn’t there.
Crazy sad
Lol
Not surprised by this. Even the protagonist didn’t promote her own show…
I also think Fate was more successful but also got the chop.
I just wonder about what happened that caused all of these cancelations in a row. First HBO, now its starz and netflix. What is it going to be next?? I admit i’m afraid of opening tvline now.
I think they all want to go to reality TV, it costs almost nothing, and it did make a lot of money, unfortunately for them I think we are all sick to death of reality TV. BTW, the cancellation of Winx Fate was a huge letdown for me also, they are looking for the audience age that spends the most money, (most don’t rely on ad’s, so I don’t know what they are thinking unles they want ad’s and a sub fee). only those with money, spend money, and most all of them are gone. Perhaps 200 channels of the stock ticker tape?
The past few years have been an unsustainable boom for streaming services, with everybody racing to churn out content and grab a bigger piece of a seemingly infinite consumer market.
Now, growth is slowing and the bubble is starting to burst, so companies are having to cut back dramatically and readjust their business models.
As a consumer, I hire a streaming because of the unspoken promise I will bing a show/product with a conclusion/finale. To stumble upon cancelled shows whose story cut short, I may as well cut off the streaming service and watch TV.
I think you are right. We pay for streaming series an releases must warrants the show. They can reduce a little a series that fails (not always the worst) but they must warrant an end (true) of what they produces. Otherwise money back
She wasn’t promoting because Netflix refused to pay to promote the show and she’s busy on projects she’s being paid for.
All of these cancellations literally just come down to money. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or if lots of people are watching. It just comes down to how much it costs to make and how much it allows CEOs and execs to line their pockets. TV is dead.
In a nutshell, shows are being pulled from HBO Max to save Warner Bros. Discovery money. They can use each show they remove as a tax write down, while a show no longer being on a streamer means the actors, writers, etc. don’t get any more residuals. The merging of Warner and Discovery created a lot of debt and the new administration’s solution to this is to significantly cut their content budget.
There’s also the matter of an influx of Discovery content coming to pair with HBO Max stuff next year, so I think anything that’s not considered friendly to that audience will go.
Starz is in a similar-ish situation as Lionsgate is trying to either make Starz a separate entity (they currently own and operate it) or get somebody to buy it from them. My best guess is that they’re trying to make Starz a more attractive proposition for somebody by cutting their programming budget. If you’re Netflix and you want to buy Starz, for example, it’s less expensive with X number of shows than Y.
As far as the Netflix cancellation, it’s Netflix doing Netflix things. When a show goes past a third season, it gets more expensive, so Netflix cancels everything but their biggest (and/or cheapest) hits after 1-3 seasons.
In terms of what’s next, I know the Minx creator mentioned more shows are coming off HBO Max.
Hi. Thank you so much. You explained things perfectly and very eloquently.
What anoys me much in all of this is the fact that i’m paying for a service that i use A LOT and had great content. I dont care at all for what Discovery has to offer.
money and seeing an article about digital counting the views from USA and Spain are not even counted they count UK and other small countries so anything you watch on Netflix if you live in the US doesn’t get counted
I finished Warrior Nun last night.
It’s been such an intense binge watch that when I wasn’t watching it, I’d find myself thinking about the characters.
This is Firefly redux.
Exactly the same for me. Finished it last night after binging the entire season for the last week. The series was given no PR, found no press on the series, and only stumbled on it thru the fandom of TV ecosystem.
What do they expect? The fact the show landed fourth – and that’s still no good enough
Streaming is killing tv and the movie theatres.
And I’m canceling my sub. No point getting invested in shows the creators aren’t allowed to end.
Exactly this. Why would I keep paying for a service that cancels everything I love? Netflix is a graveyard of abandoned epics that would have kept people paying year after year.
It’s insane to me how hard Netflix promoted Wednesday, I can’t remember the last time a series was so shoved into my face. Then on the flip side you have something like this when Netflix puts behind millions to make it only to throw it in the garbage, it doesn’t make any sense.
It’be nice if a true lover of fiction (movie and series) very rich put t together a team of best creators of stories well paid and made pay the sum of all other releaser. It’s a big amount for us BUT we must have warranty that everything begins will must had an end (announcing for every series the minimum how many seasons will has. Am I dreaming from a province of the world? (Italy) and sorry for my bad English
Such a good show. Why do they always cancel the good ones? Never made sense.
Another great show with potential bites the dust. Thanks Netflix! Not!
First Bastard Son and now this? I’m mad.
And that was the final straw, goodbye Netflix, I would weep for the shows I might miss, but not to hard seeing as you would cancel it before it’s completion anyway! You think your losing subs to competition, your wrong, bad management is your curse to bear. Your going the way of My Space, look it up, it was the greatest thing until facebook came around.
My Space hilarious.
I’m done with Netflix. I get invested in shows only to have them cancelled.
Might be time to rethink my Netflix subscription. This was a show I really liked. Many of the scifi/fantasy type shows are either dubbed or captioned which is just annoying. I may just have a better place for my 10 bucks a month.
Netflix has really screwed up with so many cancellations of shows featuring female/lesbian/bi representation and this only confirms that their pattern continues and that their renewal decisions has zero perspective (gender, diversity, apoc) outside of numbers, very sad, this the worst year for wlw shows.
No this sucks! Another show of almost all women being awesome is gone. I remember when season one came out I had no expectations, and ended up loving it. Waited so long for season two, thought it was even stronger than the first, and now gone.
Why even bother watching things anymore? Everything just gets cancelled.
Just canceled my Netflix subscription that dates back 10 years. There was no reason for them to not at least give them a 6 ep wrap up season. It was cheap, the top rotten tomatoes rated show in Netflix history and had decent numbers given when they dropped the second season. Utter bull on Netflix’s part.
🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻NETFLIX SUCKS MAJOR azZzz!!! #dumbmofos #stupidazZzzdecisions #cancelnetflix #netflixsucks KEEP CANCELLING ALL THE GOOD SHOWS,ETC…GREAT BUSINESS DECISION MORONS🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻
They’ve been planning to cancel the show since before s2 aired.
They didn’t give the show a promotional budget at all. Literally $0. And it still spent 3 weeks in the worldwide top 10 and is the highest rated show Netflix has ever made.
It’s beyond a joke. The golden age of TV has been murdered by the money grubbing of streaming services.
I’ve loved a lot of shows that have been cancelled, but this one hurts the worst.
I’m very upset with the cancelation news and I’m hoping that Warrior Nun can find a new home.
I’m sorry for those that enjoyed the show. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn’t get into it.
I really want to be able to get excited about big upcoming Nexflix series such as One Piece, Avatar, and American Jesus(I forget what they’ve renamed it) but I wouldn’t
be shocked if they end up DOA, along with any additional seasons of Shadow and Bone, SweetTooth and Sandman beyond their current renewals and those aren’t even a certainty after what they did to Grendel.
With the standard of what is considered successful set so unrealistically high I don’t see why they even greenlight highend productions anymore.
The worst part is for fans of the source material who find out at the earliest point in development a show is in the pipeline only to have it canceled after only 3 to 4 weeks when they waited 3 to 4 years for the show to arrive.
Dang it HBO why are canceling everthing left and right?!!
Sorry force of habit.
I mean, Dang it Netflix why are canceling eveything left and right?!!
Thanks a lot for canceling another female lead show good thing I don’t pay for Netflix because I’ll cancel this streaming service in heartbeat You really should just do limit series because it’s doesn’t seems like you really invest in tv series

TV show cancellations are normal and to expected but lately it seems like the entire industry just up and decided consumer sentiment is no longer a relevant metric.
I’m so angry at Netflix. This show was so great, not to mention a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes!
I just found out that season 2 was out last week I love the show was patiently waiting for season 3 I’m sad now but thank you all for seasons 1,2
Of course they did. Just binged the entire series this week. Loved it. And they canceled it.
The way streamers dump content – they will soon feel the crush of people canceling their subscriptions.
Who wants to get invested in a series only to have the show dumped?
Who wants to pay ever increasing monthly sub for a bunch of reality shows and syndicated series.
This business model can’t survive the way they disrespect viewers. A series that sat 4th on their leader board – dumped.
Ugh.
