Emmys: The Bear Wins Best Comedy Series
It’s official: The Bear is an Emmy beast. The FX on Hulu restaurant dramedy was named Outstanding Comedy Series at Monday’s 75th annual Emmy Awards.
In a bit of a timeline quirk, the show — which is entering its third season — was honored for its first season, which dropped nearly two years ago. The Bear‘s recent second season will be eligible at the 76th Emmys next September.
The Bear‘s win breaks Ted Lasso‘s Emmy winning streak; the Apple TV+ satire won the top comedy prize in 2021 and 2022. Abbott Elementary, Barry, Jury Duty, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Only Murders in the Building and Wednesday rounded out this year’s nominees.
It was a big night overall for the restaurant-set dramedy. In addition to the top comedy prize, The Bear took home trophies for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeremy Allen White), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Ayo Edebiri) and both writing and directing (series creator Christopher Storer).
“I just want to thank restaurants and the whole hospitality as a whole,” co-star Matty Matheson said in accepting the trophy for Outstanding Comedy Series, after which Moss-Bachrach approached Matheson and kissed him passionately on the lips.
Matheson then continued, “This is really amazing. It’s beautiful… There’s so many people that make this show happen every single day, and it’s really beautiful. It’s hard work. It’s early hours. We don’t see the sun for three months.”
As much as I like the Bear, I def don’t think it is a comedy and I don’t like that it took away from actual comedies like Ted Lasso which I don’t think will have another shot as it was the last year
