Jensen Ackles is a leading man once again.
The Supernatural vet is attached to star in the Prime Video thriller Countdown, which secured a 13-episode order at the streamer on Thursday.
Countdown begins with a suspicious murder in broad daylight, leading Los Angeles Police Department officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) to be recruited to a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement that will investigate the death. “But as the truth of a more sinister plot comes into focus,” the logline reads, “the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”
The series hails from #OneChicago franchise veteran and FBI: International co-creator Derek Haas, who will serve as executive producer and showrunner as part of an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
“I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and am delighted to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown,” Ackles said in a statement. “I simply cannot wait to partner with Derek and the rest of our Countdown family to bring this story to life.”
Though Ackles is best known to TV fans for his 15-season run as Supernatural‘s Dean Winchester, his small-screen résumé has filled up since the CW series ended. Recently, he’s appeared as Season 3 antagonist Soldier Boy on Prime Video’s The Boys, sheriff Beau Arlen on ABC’s Big Sky and, earlier this year, the estranged brother of Justin Hartley’s Colter on CBS’ Tracker. He also returned to the Supernatural-verse in 2022 by way of prequel series The Winchesters, which he narrated as Dean.
Does Countdown‘s premise — and/or Ackles’ involvement — pique your interest? Let us know in a comment below.
Busy guy!!
I am so ready! I still want a reboot of Supernatural! Love Jensen so much!
Best we can hope for is some sort of limited series in a few years. Or very small seasons of 7-10 eps, spread over every 18 months.
.
Both the stars made retirement money from that, and both had lucrative jobs after that. And Padalecki seems to have moved on. He doesn’t seem to want to do the role that much more. He seems to have stuck it out because he loved the fans, but I also think he feels like he’s given the fan base enough at this point.
Jared is very open to doing it, he’s spoken about it recently at conventions.
That is simply not true. They planned the 2025 revival together before the show even ended. And they’ve been working behind the scenes to try and make it a reality for more than a year now. (Since spring, 2023). For someone who apparently knows even less than me, I don’t even know where you got that idea.
I don’t think you have correct information. Jared seemed the most torn up about ending Supernatural at the time it was announced that they were ending. He’s still doing conventions with Jensen. I don’t think either of them will ever say no to anything Supernatural related. Yes, they’ve both done other things. But, of course they have. Did you expect them to stop working? I don’t know that we’ll ever get another Supernatural show for sure. But, it wouldn’t be because either of them, said no.
I’m a big Jenson Ackles fan and can’t wait for the new series. He’s a hell of an actor and hope the series is a good one! He deserves it!
So excited to see Jensen in another lead role! I’m sure TVLine will keep us posted as to the release date. #SPNFamily #SPNFamilyForever
Absolutely love Jensen Ackles! Definitely looking forward to seeing this show.
I am all in! Derek Haas has a resume that has made me an avid viewer for a long time. Jensen Ackles just sweetens the pot. :)
Of course, can’t wait to see him again, plus I like police mystery series
lol huge shock this guy is doing more copaganda
rme
I will watch anything with Jensen Ackles, no matter what premise. I binged 3 seasons of The Boys in about a month last summer because of him.
Knowing from Derek’s time as a showrunner on Chicago Fire he’ll make this show more romance focused than storytelling focus.
13?? Wow, we will be watching
I adore Jensen Ackles so I’m looking forward to this new show. I’m hoping though that this won’t interfere with his recurring role on Tracker.
So he is going to be on Tracker again? Yea! I was hoping he would but couldn’t remember if it was a one off or not.
I really hope that Jensen Ackles comes back as Russell Shaw in season 2 of Tracker!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️
Has it been announced that he’s recurring on Tracker? At any rate, this show is only 13 episodes. They can probably work something out so he could appear on Tracker, if needed. But, I haven’t seen anything other than speculation that he could return on Tracker. I haven’t seen anything about him officially in a recurring role on Tracker.
Huge fan from even before Supernatural and can’t wait for this!
You had me at Jensen Ackles is a leading man once again
Sounds very interesting and I’ll keep this one on my list to watch. Glad to see some new shows coming on board instead of more game shows and realty shows!
can’t wait, i’ve missed him a lot!
Boy, it sure seems like the potential spinoff pieces from Tracker are going by the wayside. Really interesting recurring characters are having their portrayers become unavailable.
.
But, I will say, this sounds like a limited series, one in which a new Taskforce might come together in future seasons, whereas the “sister’s” show on NBC sounds dicey.
Yep!
Yes! I cannot wait to watch this show!
Absolutely gonna watch this because of Jensen!
Yes. I’m a big fan or Ackles. I watch everything he’s in, can’t wait to see this.
Super excited to hear about this.
He is a great action star.
I wonder where the show will film.
I was expecting this type of role for Jensen 4 years ago. I thought he would have had something lined up before Supernatural finale. Can’t wait!!!
He did. He did his The Boys role , was announced before SPN’S finale, which is what got him the in with Amazon and led to this. Plus he’s worked with ABC Disney, CBS and DC in the meantime. He was I think looking to have some variety and make more connections before committing to a series lead again.
Excited!!!!
Sounds like an intriguing story. I am curious.
Oh yeah. I will SO watch this!
