Jonathan Jackson Returning to General Hospital, Reprising His Role as Lucky Spencer
Jonathan Jackson is returning to Port Charles.
The five-time Emmy winner is set to reprise his star-making role as Lucky Spencer on ABC‘s General Hospital, TVLine has confirmed. He will debut later this summer (airdate TBA) and appear for what is expected to be a long run.
Storyline details have not been made available as of press time.
Jackson confirmed the news in a video message to fans:
Jackson originated the role of Lucky in 1993, playing the son of Luke and Laura Spencer (Anthony Geary and Genie Francis) on and off through 2011, at which point he departed ABC’s daytime soap for the ABC-turned-CMT primetime drama Nashville. He then returned to GH for a brief stint in 2015.
During his two-decade run as Lucky, Jackson collected five Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2011 and 2012). News of his his return comes one day after TVLine exclusively reported that fellow GH vet Bryan Craig will return to the role of Morgan Corinthos, the late son of Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright), for one episode in early August.

So I’m guessing this was actually return that will drive fans crazy, not Bryan Craig? It just makes more sense since this is apparently an at least somewhat long term return while Bryan’s is a one-off.

Bryan Craig should start learning how to play tennis because he would be perfect when they make a Carlos Alcaraz biopic.

It would be better if Morgan came back sooner in whatever capacity to help his father with the Bipolar story. They could even have Mike Corbin come back to give his son advice. Great news that Lucky Spencer coming back.

I believe they’re talking about bringing both Morgan and Mike back since one is presumed dead and one is actually dead.

They just brought back Jason and the ratings tanked, so…
I could care less about Morgan’s return except if he’s there to help Sonny and am glad it’s only for one episode. But Jonathan is a whole other story. I’m over the moon at his return and am so glad to hear it’s for a long period.
Perhaps Lulu is next?? One can only hope!

Nobody with the last name Spencer could ever be excess on that show. Well, maybe Valerie. But not the first one.
His first three Emmy’s were for outstanding younger actor, the final two were for outstanding supporting actor.
Now THIS is news fans might actually go (a little, lol) crazy for! This makes way more sense than BC returning for a single episode. If Jonathan and Becky can recapture even half of the old Lucky and Liz magic, GH fans are in for a treat!

I loved Jonathan Jackson in the role of Lucky Spencer. But I had hoped that he’d had better success in films and TV series. Of course, this is great for GH fans.

It’s about eternally damned time! GH just ain’t the same without the Spencers. Now, when are they going to bring Lulu back from VeggieLand??
Oh, and let’s find out what really happened to Luke while we’re at it? We all know he’s not dead. Or at least I know…. because we all know he ain’t likely to be getting into Heaven. And I haven’t seen him down here!
I do not want him with Elizabeth either. Please give her a good storyline. As for Lulu, Emme Rylan was perfect for the role. If Lulu comes back, I hope it will be her.
I hope Lucky will not be a cop. There are too many police officers, lawyers, spies and gangsters in this hospital set show.
Maybe Lucky went to medical school while in Ireland! Bring back Steve Webber, he can help Liz, reconnect wiyj his mother and help at the hospital. Maybe it will give Olivia and Ned a storyline too.
Finally a smart move by GH. Very happy to have him back. What a talented actor to rejoin the cast.
I’m sure this will be a wildly unpopular opinion, but I MUCH preferred Greg Vaughn’s version of Lucky than JJ. I’ve never been a fan of the character in general, legacy or not, but GV’s version was much more likable to me. Convenient that Liz is now out of a relationship for the first time in quite a few years as well. I suspect they’re going to bring Aidan more front and center and that will be what precipitates Lucky coming back in some way.
Not unpopular to me! I loved Greg Vaughn’s version of Lucky! But I also love Jonathan Jackson, so I’ll take him. But I actually don’t really like that rather than bring Greg back or recast again, they just left Lucky off screen for so long because Jonathan didn’t want to come back. I think the character is too important and has really been painted as the worst dad now, because he’s just been off in the world for so long now without giving a care to his son/kids…he was supposed to raise Cameron too, kinda Jake.
I’ll be even more unpopular than you and say my favourite Lucky was Jacob Young! I liked JJ for the first couple of years, but then he went full-Geary and made everything way over the top, and I was glad when he left. When Genie Francis left in 2002, so did I, so I never saw Greg Vaughn
His credits are pretty sparse over the last seven years, obviously needs the work.
Looking forward to Jonathan’s return to GH and it will be great to see one of Laura’s kids back in PC. Hope to see some scenes of Lucky and Maxie when he returns. Jonathan and Kirsten had great chemistry.

Now THIS is who Valentini was talking about! I had hopes for Morgan being resurrected, so when it was announced he’s back for just 1 episode, it felt like a letdown. But this is even better news!! Morgan makes sense to likely get through to his dad. I’m still glad for his brief return. But I cannot wait to see Jonathan Jackson again! Though to be honest, I would have been happy with Lucky as Greg Vaughn too. Just Lucky. But even better with Jonathan Jackson! I’m sure he won’t stay longterm. But still, it’s great to get him for however long!
