9-1-1 EP on Buck and T.K.’s Awkward Exchange in Lone Star Crossover
Friendly warning: The following interview contains mild spoilers from Monday’s 9-1-1 crossover event.
Worlds (and firehouses) collided on Monday during 9-1-1‘s first-ever crossover with 9-1-1: Lone Star, and it was absolutely insane. We’re talking massive wildfires, a near-fatal helicopter crash, metaphorical and literal ghosts — the works.
And while we’re all for personal growth, what we really need to discuss is that hilariously uncomfortable interaction between Buck (9-1-1‘s Oliver Stark) and T.K. (Lone Star‘s Ronen Rubinstein) at the end of the hour. After bonding over their daring rescue of Owen and Hen, Buck extended a friendly invitation to his new Texan pal: “If you ever find yourself in LA, we should get together.”
“Sure,” T.K. replied. “I gotta mention, though, I already have a boyfriend — and it’s pretty serious. But it was really nice meeting you, man.” That unexpected response left Buck speechless and, as you can see in the photo above, dumbfounded.
In addition to being a “fun moment,” showrunner Tim Minear tells TVLine that he included this exchange because “it was also a way to get a reference to ‘Tarlos’ into the episode. Something we did successfully here is that no one feels like they got left on the sidelines. So it’s a little bit of fan service, but it’s also show service.
To be fair, this isn’t the first time a new acquaintance has made assumptions about Buck’s sexuality. (We’ll never forget when that kindly Christmas elf mistook him for Christopher’s other dad back in Season 3.) So why was he so surprised by T.K.’s response? When asked if Buck is completely unaware of how he comes off to people, Minear admits, “I think he might be fully unaware.”

I think I’ve stopped going to Buddie, but he screams with excitement, lmao, that the writers decide if they will give it to us or not, I’ve been like a clown many times :(
I sincerely feel like they are playing it so close to Buck coming out. Whether or not we get Buddie who knows but maybe Bucks coming out will lead to Eddie discovering things
lol – that was great. Maybe Buck felt awkward, but T.K. came off as 100% in-control (and adorable) as he graciously declined Buck’s offer to “get together”. Loved it.

Completely different note, though, it appeared in the mine that Hen and Cap each had their own O2 masks so why weren’t they wearing them the whole time after sealing themselves in? The chopper pilot had one the whole time, so what was the downside for them to wear the masks?
My guess is that they gave one to the pilot
That exchange was amazing! Someday Buck and Eddie will figure it out. The episode was great. A lot of character development which is always my favorite kind of episode. My question is who was TK on the phone with? His mom or Carlos? Are they at the I love you phase?
I think it was his mom because it was a bit “platonic”, but questioning if Tarlos is at the love stage is one of many great questions. I never watched 911 (either series) until I heard a few weeks ago about “Tarlos”, and then binged the entire Lonestar series two weekends ago,. I fell in love with TK and how bold the premiere episode was with portraying TK and Carlos’ hookup, and then I couldn’t wait for more. And I kept waiting. And waiting…. as it appears so many others have been waiting.

Now it’s season 2 and at this point we know they’re “quarantining” together – is that out of necessity? Commitment? Hmm. TK did tell Buck his relationship is “serious”, but is it love? We don’t know.

We still don’t even know if TK has told Carlos about his drug overdose in NY. TK told his company late in S1, but it’s unclear what Carlos knows (other than he’s working on sobriety) and who knows what Carlos and TK know about each other.

I’m pretty sure TK told Carlos in the episode when TK got into that bar fight and got picked up by the cops.
Yes, that was after TK had pushed Carlos away and then realized he was being stupid and told Carlos why.
In love the crossover but I really want to see Buck find a good woman for the series.

I feel like this moment didn’t really deserve a whole post on TVLine and is just being used to get people to click in hopes of hearing it meant something more than a “fun moment”.
I just wanna know who is “dumbass” and who is “dumbasser.” 🤣🤣🤣 Freaking fantastic cross over. I really hope they do a few more!

So buck was really looking at Marjon but but thought he was looking at him. Ok. I get it now. I think it would be awesome for Buck to get a gay storyline but I also don’t think it will happen. Either way I loved it episode. It was so good. I really want Hen to forgive herself for the accident. It wasn’t her fault!
I found that scene pretty funny. TK is gorgeous and has a gorgeous boyfriend too.

I think for monday 02/01/2021 for 9.1.1. and for 9.1.1. lone star crossover was very interesting with all the action and the last few words T.K. and Buck had .
Notice when TK walks off with his rejection of Buck presumed come on and Eddie immediately comes into view? Hmm.

This was a great episode. But Judd pissed me off. Which is why I rated it Just ok.
Him telling that kid that it’s his fault that his dad calls him a waste of space.
Like I agree that you shouldn’t wallow in self pity but who talks like that to their children and then expect them to have self-esteem.
Serves to make Buck think more about his own sexuality and why he is so interested in Eddie. It hasn’t quite registered with him that there is more to what he is feeling……that he is in love with him and wants to be a father to Christopher too.
I love both show’s watched it since the beginning my favorite on 911 iOS all of the characters and on lone star it’s Natasha Kareem
great and all, but that xmas ep was s2, not s3 🤷
I am totally crying over this episode. I think they need cross-over like this once in a while
I agree. They’re filmed in the same place so it shouldn’t be difficult with a little pre-planning. I’d like to see some of them in LA next, maybe for a first responder’s conference gone wrong.
Great episode but I’m dying to know what Maddie was talking about with her mother at the end of the OG. What has mom been lying about to Buck his ENTIRE life?!?!?!
Maybe he’s adopted?
Or maybe Maddie is really Buck’s mother. IRL, she’s 11 years older than him…but in TV land, she could easily be 14-15 years older than him.
I’m fine with him being adopted. I just don’t want it to cause a big rift between Buck and Maddie. I would hate if they passed off the parent’s neglect because he’s the product of his mother being sexually assaulted. I’ve seen enough SVU to be done with that story trope. Adoption makes the most sense. What else could it be?
I def think Maddie is going to end up being his real mother and her being pregnant again is bringing up a lot of feelings about that.
I went right to wondering just how much older Maddie is than Buck after that exchange. And whether Maddie is his mom. It could be as simple as he was adopted. Or perhaps there is some bigger tragedy lurking in the background.

Understand how TK would interpret Bucks invite.
Understand how Buck didn’t mean it that way.
But the best wholesome interaction was them comparing Captain America and Iron Man. They are both great and even better as a team.

Loved this crossover and would be happy with more like this, even just guest roles for the characters visiting or Skyping each other from time to time.
And I know it’s a very long shot since it’s different networks but am I the only one who would love to see a 9-1-1/ Rookie crossover? It would make sense since they’re all in LA.
They could have done more, with more interaction onscreen, between the two houses. Granted, a wildfire isn’t conducive to much interaction, but they could have expanded it into the 911 episode more than just a blurb at the end of the show. I’d love to see more cross over events, but see the difficulty, in them being so far apart. How about firefighter exchange programs??

I was expecting a big 2 hour roller coaster.
I found the lone star ep a bit flat. It’s not my favourite show, and it is getting better, but I found the crossover a bit meh
I like both shows and enjoyed the awkward moment between the boys at the end. In fact, i think buck’s therapy that he disclosed to his sister might end up tough him coming out.
As for the crossover episode, i didn’t think it developed enough. The 118 was in and out, Slam bam you ma’am.

I just don’t see Eddie and Buck having a relationship, they are just really great friends who happen to love Eddie’s son. I would love to see them both in great relationships. Marjan would be nice for Eddie, but too far away. I like TK but just to whinny for me. Love, love, Hen, but please have people call her Henrietta more often. That’s my name and love to see it on TV when it isn’t named for a farm animal.
I guess the problem for me is that Buck and Chimney are good friends, Chim and Hen are best friends, Eddie and Chim are great friends! But Eddie and Buck just don’t share the same friendly vibe. They are still pretty close and they may as well remain platonic till the series finale, but their dynamic is not quite friendly as the dynamic they have with other characters they are not quite close as they are with each other
