Young Sheldon stars Montana Jordan and Emily Osment haven’t given any interviews about their highly anticipated spinoff before now. But during a recent sit-down with TVLine, Georgie and Mandy’s portrayers opened up about their hopes for the as-yet-untitled sitcom.
CBS in March handed a straight-to-series order to the Georgie-and-Mandy offshoot, which will center on CeeCee’s parents and pick up where Young Sheldon leaves off with its series finale (airing Thursday, May 16). The spinoff, we’re told, will follow “Georgie and Mandy as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage.” But before they set off on their own, the fan-favorite couple will tie the knot on April 11.
Leading up to the big day, TVLine hopped on Zoom with Jordan and Osment for a wide-ranging conversation that begins with a discussion about the above-mentioned spinoff. In Part 1 of our Q&A, the scene stealers reveal when they first found out that Georgie and Mandy would be leading their own show — a moment that Osment refers to as “bittersweet.” There’s also talk of the transition of doing Young Sheldon as a single-camera comedy, to doing the spinoff as a multi-camera sitcom shot in front of a live, studio audience — just like Young Sheldon‘s predecessor.
We also discuss Big Bang Theory canon — more specifically, what Sheldon Cooper said about Georgie’s relationship status in the mega hit’s 2019 series finale.
Young Sheldon Season 7 resumes Thursday, April 4 at 8/7c on CBS (and streams next day on Paramount+). In the meantime, watch Part 1 of our interview with Montana Jordan and Emily Osment above, then hit the comments with your reactions.
Really looking forward to this. As much as it hurts to lose Young Sheldon on my Thursdays, they are my two favorite characters on the show these last few seasons.
Hey, TV Line! I would prefer to read the interview transcription. The PBS Masterpiece newsletter does it that way. I can read the information much more quickly than a video conversation can reveal it.
Exactly I have a Hearing Disability and I would like to know what they are saying. TV Line should really put Closed Captioning option on all their videos but they dont.
Agreed! I’m often in public or at my desk w/out AirPod access and can’t watch videos. I can read transcripts though.
Is this the rumored TBBT spin off that was reported a while ago or os there still a show in the works that is an actual TBBT spin off and not a spin off in the same universe? I was hoping to get a spin off with some characters from TBBT, not a spin off of Young Sheldon.
No it’s a different one
This is not. TVLine said that when this series was first announced.
I could see them being “happy” as a family. But I could see her having a career opportunity that requires her to move away, in addition to George experiencing success as an entrepeneur, and that putting pressure on a young family that ultimately leads to a very amicable split in the later seasons of a show that I don’t think will last more than 5-6 years.
I can’t wait. I think it will be a big hit
I guess I’m way out of the social media loop. I didn’t know about this spinoff and amm very surprised that it’s highly anticipated by many.
I cannot see how this show will have any staying power. Then again, I thought Young Sheldon was a silly show.
