No, Disney+’s Agatha All Along isn’t a moody cop procedural — but a new trailer for the WandaVision spinoff will briefly have you thinking it is.
Nearly two months after announcing a Sept. 18 release date for Agatha All Along, Disney+ has now shared the offshoot’s first footage, which finds Kathryn Hahn’s previously powerful witch now working as… a detective? That is, until Agatha’s latest case forces her to confront the battle with Wanda Maximoff that took away Agatha’s magic, trapping her in her “Agnes” persona until further notice.
“I miss the glory days,” Agatha says in the video above. “She took every bit of power I had. But I can be that witch again.” (Enter: the most fabulous coven we’ve seen since American Horror Story Season 3.)
Here’s the spinoff’s official logline: “In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…”
Agatha All Along was first ordered at Disney+ back in November 2021, but its premiere has been delayed several times amid changes to Marvel’s rollout plan. In addition to Hahn as Agatha, WandaVision alumni Emma Caulfield Ford and Debra Jo Rupp will also return. New cast members include Broadway veteran Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus), Joe Locke (Heartstopper), Sasheer Zamata (Home Economics) and Ali Ahn (Raising Dion).
The series will span nine total episodes, the first two of which drop Wednesday, Sept. 18. Check out the full trailer above, then hit the comments with your hopes for the show!
This should have been the title from the very beginning. it’s been so obvious and just sitting there the entire time.
You get that they were messing with us, right?
It was Agatha All Along all along.
I can’t decide if the changing names as a gimmick is brilliant or annoying. It certainly didn’t inspire confidence that the show had a solid direction during the lead-up. I enjoy Katherine Hahn, Debra Jo, Emma, and Joe Locke–I hope this show doesn’t let them down.
This is why i never saw it as a gimmick or them messing with us. It doesn’t look good for a show to go through so many name changes, they couldn’t settle on one? Didn’t inspire much confidence, like you said. Especially since it’s been so long since the show was even announced. They the other titles were bad it would be more believeable but I do think they were legit titles. But Disney and Marvel are now leaning into the changes.
Considering they were all parodies, i.e. “Agatha of Westview/Mare of Easttown”, “The Darkhold Diaries/The Princess Diaries”, it was pretty obviously a gimmick from the very beginning.
It’s almost as tho it was and that’s literally what that video was about. I honestly feel like your comment could be lyrics about it…
I like the fact that the teaser mocks the various announced-and-discarded iterations of the title. Clever and fun.
It’s because of projects like this (and Ironheart, and Echo) that I think Bob Iger makes a valid point. Not every Marvel character deserves their own spinoff series and 4-8 hours of commitment. And I speak as a huge Marvel fan.
You could say the same thing about characters like Daredevil. That show was mostly good, so people don’t. Ironheart, etc. could be good, too; that’s what pickup should depend on not just whether randos think the character “deserves”.
It’s also really telling that people express this “not every character deserves” so much more loudly the second it’s women leading. We got so many movies and tv shows for the white dudes, now people won’t even give a show a shot when the lead’s a woman, esp a woman of color. It’s so blatant.
It has nothing to do with who the lead is. It has everything to do with, “Is the character compelling enough to want to see more of them?” and “Is there a compelling story to be told with this character that justifies the time investment?” Especially when everyone and their comic book guy is speculating about “superhero fatigue” and the glut of so-so Marvel product the last few years.
.
It is worth noting that both Ironheart and Echo were announced and greenlit BEFORE they’d actually debuted. I’ve got zero problem with their transition to live-actuon. But given the overall drop in quality for Marvel in general, perhaps they shouldn’t have spent resources on spinoffs like this without KNOWING that fans wanted more of these characters.
As for Agatha, again, IS there more story worth telling with her? I personally felt her story was wrapped at the end of WandaVision. Or is this a project based solely on the viral reaction to her theme song? Hard to say. (And yes, I’m aware that live-action Agatha Harkness is WILDLY divergent from comic Agatha, but that happens in adaptations.)
.
I think Marvel might have chosen to make these series for all the wrong reasons, not because people actually wanted them, which is the natural driver. The fact that these shows have been plagued with more than their share of development issues and viewer apathy could bear that out. But sure, go ahead, call me a misogynist because I didn’t know if I wanted more Ironheart before I saw her on screen in the first place. Especially since I’d feel the same way about the Black Knight or Korg getting their own Disney+ shows.
The same could be said for films like Guardians of the Galaxy. But it was released and people loved it.
Even the first films used characters that were not considered Marvels best as the film rights were with Sony and Fox. At that time none of the Avengers titles or the surrounding characters sold well.
Marvel films has always used the same formula the only thing that’s changed it what “you” want.
any character can be worth a show.. all depends on the execution… I for one really enjoyed Echo and think that show was worth the time commitment.
But Agatha wasn’t that popular or noteworthy until the big twist, and that was due in large part to the song. This could be iffy.
the trailer looks good and it’s being marketed as a halloween show. Let’s see how it turns out.
Fair point. I just always worry when a minor character suddenly becomes the focal point, or gets an expanded role. Sometimes, less more. More doesn’t equal good.
.
Hahn is so good that I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt, but she’s typically at her best in small doses.
Any character can be compelling with a good story. Hopefully Agatha gets one…
it opens the door to other marvel supernatural characters into the MCU.
Not true.
There are lots of female lead shows in the past that ran for years.
The issue is with many particularly with none white characters is that most are blatantly racist against white people, so you have a show about characters spending so much of the screen time complaining about racism while being racist.
Many shows in the past did not have this regardless of lead character, male, female, background or sexuality. These days that’s all they are about because the producers are not good directors, they do not have good writers as they are foremost activists above all else, including most of the actors. That is why people are put of by them. The Acolyte is a perfect example of that.
As for this show, I will watch the first few episodes as as long as they leave that baggage elsewhere, I will continue to watch.
I apply this to any show, I watched the first few episodes of Daredevil and liked the show, so continued to watch, same’s applies to all shows be it superhero, General action shows/drama, comedy, romcom or whatever.
Oh please, The Acolyte could be one of the best written shows on television and you would STILL be ranting about how it has been ruined by writers and actors who are activist first and foremost.
.
I mean if you are going to go on a pathetic rant repeating tired and cliched arguments that every anti-woke youtuber has regurgitated ad nauseum can you at least have the courtesy of adding something new?
Marvel has a habit of using their existing characters shows and films to introduce new characters that may become important later on. Joe Locke’s character is a significant addition. If Marvel gets around to using him again then we already have his backstory.
Maybe repackage Wanda as a Disney+ movie as a lead in? Loved the show can’t remember half of it.
Recut a tv show that’s ABOUT TV SHOWS as a *movie*?? WHY? Just watch it again, geeze.
Or maybe just rewatch it as it didn’t go anywhere.
Can’t wait to watch Ironheart. Don’t care about daredevil.

Why it took them so long to find the perfect title? It was right there all along. Well hope this one will stick
I must say, I’m rather amused that they played with the changing title in this announcement.
I wonder what it will be called the day it streams ^^
It seems to me that in the early part of the trailer, the spell Agnes is stuck in didn’t just make her a police detective somewhere. It looks like the spell made her reality “tv like”, and very similar to that of the lead character in “Mare of Easttown”.
It would be great if Aubrey Plaza was actually playing her character from the “Legion” TV series… she kinda seems to be in these clips.
Well, ageism is still okay in Hollywood. Agatha H was never 40ish in the books.
I can’t wait! Haters don’t bother watch the show, this is for people with good taste!
We already know we won’t be getting a season 2 but I hope they’ll keep the characters around (Aubrey Plaza is so fitting for the MCU, she could be one of the next big things!)
(Shrug)
Wasn’t all that “Ooo-ahh” over her in WandaVision.
This is going to bring me back to Marvel. This looks so good!
Too much destruction & violence when we need shows w/people pulling & working together for better lives. There’s far too much negativity on TV that is Not helping our current state of affairs but is a hinderence.
I was casually interested before the trailer, but now I can’t wait.
