A pair of American Idol judges are going to make sweet music together this Sunday (ABC, 8/7c).
TVLine has an exclusive first look at an impromptu moment from the second week of auditions in which Luke Bryan pulls inspiration from Commodores, fellow judge Lionel Richie‘s chart-topping funk/soul outfit. And what begins as a simple sing-what-you-see scenario turns into an unexpected music lesson between the two.
“I’m probably not playing it right,” Bryan admits, prompting Richie to take a seat on the piano bench and show the country crooner how it’s done.
Though we’re only two hours into the new season of American Idol, the show has already given us a few contestants worth following. Not only did Idol welcome back “hunk-a-saurus” Nick Merico, who famously ghosted last season ahead of Hollywood Week, but the judges also pre-law student Francisco Martin that definite he’s Top 10 — maybe even Top 5 — material. Then again, they also told London-born songwriter Louis Knight that he’s the biggest star they’ve ever auditioned, so maybe they were just in a complimentary mood.
Hit PLAY on the video above to watch Bryan and Richie in action, then drop a comment with your thoughts below. Are there any contestants you’re already rooting for?
Don’t forget the unexpected gas leak.
This is my favorite panel of judges. They’re entertaining, and they also really give a hoot and know how to push the contestants to grow.
Too bad this show is going the way of The Voice and concentrating too much on judge antics as opposed to the contestants. Say what you want about Simon, Randy, Paula, JLo, and Steven- but it was about the contestants, not them. Of course, we got Nikki and Mariah, which was a mess.
I agree with you fully that “Idol” has become like “The Voice.”
“Idol” has also followed suit in doing virtually nothing after the show to promote their finalists.
However, Paula, Steven, and JLo were bad, too.
Paula would ramble on about nonsense about cornflakes and melons or whatever.
Steven would act inappropriately with underage and barely legal female contestants.
JLo would just dance around during the contestants’ performances, and the camera would dwell on her.
The less said about Kara and Ellen, the better.
The finalists appear on every morning show, talk show, late night show, etc, known to mankind…just because you miss something, it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. 🤷
I am sick to death of the superlatives the judges heap on contestants! Let’s get real with critique. is not fair to the these kids to say they are the best ever, winner, etc..
