Bob Hearts Abishola‘s love story is winding down. CBS announced Wednesday that the Chuck Lorre comedy will end with Season 5.
Its 13-episode farewell run begins Monday, Feb. 12, while its series finale will air Monday, May 13 at 8:30/7:30c.
“We are so proud to call Bob Hearts Abishola a CBS comedy as it helped establish a new generation of programming at the network,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “This series expertly showcased a family love story and workplace comedy about the immigrant experience with heartfelt humor and emotion while also authentically portraying Nigerian culture.
“It’s a testament to the incomparable Chuck Lorre, the amazing creative team led by Al Higgins, Gina Yashere and Matt Ross, and the talents of Billy Gardell, Folake Olowofoyeku and the entire cast for making this show and its characters come to life and resonate with viewers,” the statement continues. “We plan to celebrate it this spring and give fans the most amazing episodes to remember it by.”
Added Yashere, Ross and Lorre: “Bob Hearts Abishola is about an unlikely love story, but also the premise that immigrants make America great. We’ve loved bringing these stories to life and are excited for fans to see the final chapter of these two families, and the incredible work of this talented cast and crew.” (Yashere released an additional statement on Instagram, which you can read here.)
As previously reported, only Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku are returning to their titular roles as series regulars for a shortened, strike-delayed Season 5. The remainder of the ensemble — which consists of Christine Ebersole (as Dottie), Matt Jones (as Douglas), Maribeth Monroe (as Christina), Vernee Watson (as Gloria), Shola Adewusi (as Auntie Olu), Barry Shabaka Henley (as Uncle Tunde), Travis Wolfe Jr. (as Dele), Bayo Akinfemi (as Goodwin), Anthony Okungbowa (as Kofo), Saidah Arrika Ekulona (as Ebunoluwa) and series co-creator Yashere (as Kemi) — will appear on a recurring basis.
Shortly after the news broke, Gardell tweeted, “It’s been a great ride. Thanks to everyone who has watched us, let’s finish up strong!” Olowofoyeku also weighed in on Instagram, writing: “Through a pandemic… through a strike… we kept rolling! Oh, what a ride!! Season 5, our final season, is going to be EPIC!”
B❤️A started off as a love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman (played by Mike & Molly vet Gardell) and his cardiac nurse (Olowofoyeku). The unlikely couple tied the knot at the beginning of Season 3. Over time, the series has blossomed into a true ensemble effort, which was only natural with a robust cast of 13 series regulars.
Abishola’s end date comes two weeks after CBS announced that fellow Lorre comedy Young Sheldon will end with Season 7. With both series ending, the sitcom titan is poised to head into the 2024-25 broadcast season without a show on CBS for the first time since Two and Half Men debuted in 2003.
Are you sad to hear that Bob Hearts Abishola is coming to an end? Sound off in Comments.
Yes very sad to hear Bob hearts Abishola is ending, it is a very funny show and the supporting cast are also extremely funny
CBS is really going to have to hope a bunch of their new shows hit with all the long-time shows that are ending this season. They already gave up on Wednesdays, their Friday lineup is down to one and half shows returning for the 24/25 season, they’ve only got 2 returning sitcoms, and their Sundays are a bit of a wasteland. I don’t have much faith in the shows that were supposed to premiere this year but are being held for next year.
They always take off the good shows and leave the crappy stuff on. I’ll miss both of those shows
This was such a cute feel good show. I’m sorry to see it go but we knew it was coming with the budget cuts.
Bob Hearts Abishola was and is really funny. I couldn’t stop laughing whenever I was watching an episode. I will miss this series when it ends because it was so funny. The series Bob Hearts Abishola is one of the shows that got me to start watching sitcoms again. It has become one of my new favorite sitcoms.
OMG!!! I am SOOOOOOOO heartbroken!! I LOVE this show. There has not been a sitcom this funny and lighthearted since the 1980s. This news is such a disappointment
It’s a shame that all the good shows are being cancelled. This taught us a lot about African culture. I loved the clothes and the beautiful colors! Please don’t take it away!!
I don’t know why this heartwarming series is ending and your article didn’t say!
Don’t understand why only violence prevails?
And just like that, when the current season ends, ill have nothing left i watch on cbs except ghosts.
I am not surprised. Given the economics in Hollywood probably every studio is looking to cut costs anyway they can. This show will not be the first show that has been on the air for a few years to be cancelled & it will not be the last. I would not be shocked if NCIS is next. Even though the ratings are very good it will be going on season 21. CBS may just think that it will be less expensive to bring in a new show at a lower cost.
That was a predictable outcome after what they did to most of the regular cast last renewal… it already felt like they were saying this is the final season, and from the other shows that got casting cuts last time it looks like it’s a halfway step to ending a show by giving it a final season but saving on the cast costs…
It’s the new final season on the cheap model.
Sorry to see it end. The cast worked well together to make the show very enjoyable. Mr. Lorre has a knack of creating very good shows. I hope he has something cooking for the near future.
I’m beyond shattered that both of my most loved comedies are coming to an end. All of my faves are always canceled early. There are so many other shows that should be canceled but seem to just drag on forever. Maybe the wrong TV viewers are being polled by Nielsen!
All I ask is that we get to hear Christine Ebersole sing at least once before the series finale.
One of our favorite shows. Going to miss Bob and Abishola 😭! The Family is hilarious!
I am so sorry to read that Bob hearts Abishola is ending. I have enjoyed the show tremendously. I love comedies. There are not enough of them on tv.
One of two shows we watched besides game shows!
Don’t end the show really enjoy the show
NO!!!!!! I don’t want you to end the show. The show is a wonderful family show and I look forward to watching it every week. It is never boring and it brings adversity to the show. The show also brings new interesting characters every once in a while, which is great! Please don’t cancel Bob hearts Abasholia.
Very sad, this was a great show, great cast! I will miss it!
Stupid decision. Hard to find true well written comedy on television. Most of the time you ask yourself why that show is classified comedy when there is none. CBS had a good one with the reboot of the Odd Couple, The Unicorn, Mom, The Big Bang Theory, Molly and Mike, The Great Indoors, Superior Donuts, 9JKL.
Bob Hearts Abishola is a very good vehicle to learn part of the culture of Nigeria, which has 371 tribes. It’s good to remember that Yoruba isn’t the only one.
i have loved the show since it started. i am 75 years old and it is getting harder to find good things to watch.really going to miss it.
Yes I am very sad to hear that B❤️A will be ending after this next season there are still so many stories to tell!!!!!
Ridiculous to cancel such a great, highly rated family friendly program. Shame on CBS.
Heartbroken to hear that Bob Hearts Abishola
is coming to an end. It’s such an entertaining and
funny show. An amazing cast that will be sorely missed.
And it was wonderful to witness their fabulous Nigerian
wedding. It was a real treat to learn so much about
Nigerian culture. Really going to miss this show.
