CBS on Thursday became the first broadcast network to unveil its schedule for the Fall TV season. What shows are on the move, where did new ones land, and what’s on hold until midseason?
♦ Tracker, TV’s most-watched show, will now air Sundays at 8/7c, leading into Season 5 of The Equalizer. Morris Chestnut medical drama Watson will be held for spring, once the NFL season is over, and launch Sundays at 10 pm.
♦ Wayans comedy Poppa’s House will inherit Bob Hearts Abishola’s Mondays-at-8:30 time slot, while NCIS: Origins will take over for NCIS: Hawai’i at 10 pm.
♦ Survivor will be paired with new reality competition The Summit on Wednesday nights this fall. Before Survivor and The Amazing Race return in the spring, CBS will test an all-game show Wednesday in January, featuring The Price Is Right at Night, Raid the Cage Season 2 and a Hollywood Squares reboot (with Drew Barrymore taking center square).
♦ Young Sheldon spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will lead off Thursday nights. The Kathy Bates-led Matlock reboot will claim So Help Me Todd’s Thursdays-at-9 pm time slot, leading into Season 2 of Elsbeth.
♦ Once Friday staple Blue Bloods wraps its 14th and final season in the fall, S.W.A.T. will inherit the 10 pm hour and make room for Season 2 of NCIS: Sydney at 8 pm.

So help me Todd should be renewed! Great show.
Yeah, I’m surprised one of those Saturday rerun slots couldn’t have been used for So Help Me Todd.
I just want Todd back. I loved having an entertaining and enjoyable show that I could watch with the family.
move one of the Wednesday to Saturday and put the 3 can. shows their
There’s haven’t been any original programs on Saturday Night in over 30 years. That night is for repeats and sporting events. So Help Me Todd wouldn’t have stand a chance.
Ransom was on a Saturday in 2017. It didn’t do well though even though it was good
Get rid of 90% of those game shows at night and reality shows
I honestly think they could get rid of all the FBI shows and they’d be fine. They honestly are boring. I’m over all the crime procedurals. They’ve been overkilled.
I agree so mad
Yes yes love it
I can’t believe you cancelled NCS Hawaii. I really enjoyed this show. Blue Bloods is one of my favorite shows too.
Yesmine also
SO glad HAWAI’I is gone. It was frivolous and unrealistic.
It is so cute when people try to troll.
me too, both of them
Solid schedule, looking forward to the Georgie and Mandy show, and Watson
Huge BLUNDER cancelling So Help Me Todd AND Blue Bloods.
Blue Bloods will get uncancelled, real quick. That was the purpose of splitting up the seasons like that. It was a game of chicken. Basically, CBS wanted the actors to take a pay cut to continue the show. The actors said no. CBS cancelled the show. The actors hoped that fan ire would force CBS to reverse course and renew the show. CBS held firm, and added a few more hits to the lineup. Tracker’s outsized success gave CBS more power. Then, SWAT cut its cast costs to the bone (its renewal will be with a mostly different cast outside the star, and anyone else willing to take a big pay cut).
.
So, now BB’s cast knows that CBS isn’t joking around. Now the cast is talking about wanting to continue the show. Which is only possible if the cast takes pay cuts. But it will be back. Successful shows that air Friday at 10 don’t grow on trees.
The cast took a 25% pay cut to get the 14th season, which was announced as the final season.
Is CBS losing $? Maybe they should schedule better shows for more ad $. Really–they think The Price Is Right and/or Hollywood Squares is going to bring them more $?! LOL.
Correct LOL and all thos over stupid shows they are replacing really good shows like ncis hawaii so help me Todd and a few others with I have had it with CBS guess I will be watching another channel maybe ABC or NBC BUT CBS is Out for me
Oh I so hope you are riight!!
@Patrick
No, it’s not, the show is really ending.
Reisenbach also said that CBS has no plans to renew the long-running Blue Bloods beyond the current Season 14, despite cast members (Tom Selleck included) lobbying for at least a longer farewell run. Rather, following its upcoming May 17 finale, the family/cop drama will return with the second half of its final season in October, and wrap with a series finale at the end of the year.
“We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule,” Reisenbach noted, per Deadline. “We are going to end the show come December.”
So angry about NCIS Hawaii
So pissed about NCIS Hawaii. All so they could shoehorn their Origins show in the slot. Canceling their female led, diverse cast show for more bland men. No thanks.
A pretty strong schedule. Glad to see Raid the Cage is returning.
Glad I’m not the only one excited for Raid the Cage to come back!
I feel like Matlock is going to have a completely different audience from So Help Me Todd…
What’s crazy is that Todd trailed in the demo audience and gets cancelled. So they are replacing it with a show that is guaranteed to skew even older. I hear Matlock and think of Grandpa Simpson’s nursing home, ‘Matlock, Matlock, Matlock!”
Well, CBS has to put those Preparation H commercials somewhere!*
*sarcasm is the only thing that’s keeping me going here
Agree or Andy Griffith leave it back in the 80s matlock I mean
I had thought about watching Matlock but not if it’s replacing Todd. I’m pretty much done watching any new shows on CBS.
Matlock will probably do just fine, along the lines of SHMT, but it will also have the same older demo target so CBS won’t win in the end.
I totally agree with you. I like Kathy Bates, but Matlock is DOA as far as I am concerned. CBS can resurrect every old drama and game show it wants, but I’m not watching them. At least So Help Me Todd was witty, fun, and had a great cast.
Harry’s Place w/ Kathy Bates a decade ago skewed older than. Not sure how a Matlock reboot with her is going to skew any younger. Matlock would have been better served being scheduled after 60 Minutes since it’s the most compatible age demographics wise but I get that is a huge platform for a younger show like Tracker to get the most eyes following an NFL Sunday matchup
I don’t think Matlock will succeed. Back when the original Matlock aired, the critics ripped it to shreds, and yet it lasted for more than a decade (including the movies).
Back in the 80s and 90s, Matlock and Murder She Wrote were quite popular. with the viewing audience. I don’t recall seeing anything new like those two series since. The original series’ air quite heavily in syndication, but that is pretty much it.
Yea it’s a fresh schedule. A bunch of game shows a 75 year old women in a remake paired with a neurotic dweeb. A origin story set in the 90’s. But we got rid of our most diverse cast. Cbs can’t wait to you are sold. Til then no watch that garbage
Heard that tito agree
Lol, “new shows in CAPS”. And right below that we have… NCIS.
Not sure if Poppa’s House audience are Bob-Abishola audience, or NCIS audience. No overlap with the Big Poppa.
Will more episodes per next seasons of NCIS & Co produce due the strike? In 2008 the seasons was a little bit longer…
I wasn’t old enough to remember much of the 2007-2008 strike, but I don’t think it lasted as long. Which might explain why these seasons have all been much shorter. It also might be because there was dual strikes this time where there wasn’t last time. But that’s just me speculating.
You’re right – it was much shorter last time and happened later in the season so it affected the ending of each season of shows – not the start of the seasons like this last strike did (and it lasted longer). Plus like you said – the dual strike made it even harder.
The 2007 strike was from November 5 – February 26.
So by the time it started most fall shows had already produced the 9 to 11 episodes they would have aired before the Christmas break and then still had scripts for a few episodes that would be airing in January.
Then after the strike ended there were still time to make 5-7 more episodes.
House had 16 episodes during the strike season. Smallville managed 20, only 2 down from a usual season.
It didn’t, but a lot of shows did end up with 13-16 episode seasons because of it, as they basically went on end of year hiatus and came back with maybe 4-5 episodes to fit in their entire second half of their season arcs. Some procedurals filmed as many eps as they could and held episodes for the next season, and some shows who knew they were coming back filmed a couple of bottle episodes or took episodes that were partly done and finished post-production on them and added them on to the next season (or flat out kept the money towards the next season), which is how they got the longer seasons.
Also, it was more common then for shows to regularly get 23/24 ep orders, or be given an extra or two episodes so they could have packed sweeps schedules, whereas now they seem to stick with 22 and if they want a massive episode for sweeps or after the Super Bowl or something, they’ll move the budget around to pay for more effects or use network connections to get guest stars, rather than pay for more episodes.
Loved So Help Me Todd and NCIS Hawaii. Don’t know why NCIS Sydney was renewed. Tried watching, characters don’t click and I can’t understand them.
the ONLY reason sydney had good ratings is it was the ONLY thing on during the strike.
Not the only thing. NBC had new episodes of Quantum Leap, Irrational and another show.
Exactly. Can’t wait to see the numbers for it and Origins.
I hope Origins tanks so badly.
Sydney was renewed because it got good ratings. It was originally made for Australian TV and Australia paid for part of it so it was cheaper for CBS.
Welp, looks like Thursday night will be set for me with George and Mandy’s First Marriage and Ghosts. I’ll give Matlock a look because it stars the wonderful Kathy Bates.
The fact that Trackers is the #1 show just shows that people want cookie cutter/formulaic rehashed material more than interesting smart shows. Hot guy takes off shirt and finds lost puppy. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Kind of like the last part, before “ZZZZZZZZZZZZ”.
I am just sick about Blue Bloods ending. I cannot accept it. I’d rather have Blue Bloods than Elsbeth or Matlock. Only Andy Griffith can do Matlock. The cast of Blue Bloods where willing to take a pay cut and the cast still want to do the show. Why won’t they renew Blue Bloods? I love watching Blue Bloods and them not being on TV messes up my whole Friday program. Friday is SWAT and Blue Bloods.
I can’t stand Elsbeth! Blue Bloods should not be cancelled; it is a great show and great cast! I really hope CBS reconsiders and don’t cancel it.
Dito elsbeth is just an English version of murder she wrote from the 80s and Eben that show sucked so does elsbeth
Leave. Fridays as is leave Monday as is because you loosing viewers
Wish they’d quit screwing around with Tracker. I never know where it is anymore.
It is always on Sunday. It’s normal time is 9pm eastern. Twice, they had it on at 8pm eastern. They skipped only two weeks for whatever reason – sports, specials. There are three episodes left at 9pm Sunday with no breaks.
Not the best show, but I’ll finish this season. I do not think I’ll watch the next.
I know it’s always on Sunday 🤣🤣
The quality of Tracker really suffers from commercial overload. The average runtime is just 40 minutes, and that 4 fewer minutes shows. Not only does it hurt the story each episode, but it takes your attention from what little story there is too often. Even the WSJ commented on it having too many ads it a few weeks ago.
So Tracker and The Equalizer swapped times. It’s still going to run into the same issue with sports delaying the shows.🤨
Well my 21 year run of NCIS is over. I am very sad that Hawaii was canceled for an origin we do not need. I am done with all NCIS shows. I ahve thursday comedies and Tracker onSunday. Reading, Movies and going out get my other nights
I wish CBS would reconsider canceling CSI: Vegas, NCIS: Hawai’i,& So Help Me Todd, Because I love these show all 3 are great and need to stay on the air! all 3 and increased in veiwership and instead od continually createing new shows keep the fan favorites that everyone already loves watching! CBS does not make sense and does not consider their veiwers thoughts!
No they have to add more reality TV. LIke there isn’t already enough of that mess on now.
So so true
Nothing against Kathy Bates, wonderful actress, but I hope her show tanks and they bring back Todd. Should have never been cancelled in the first place. As for the Wayan’s show, I’ll give it a shot but think it’ll be a flop.
They won’t bring back Todd, but we are trying to save the show. CBS don’t deserve such an amazing series, they only care about boring series and reality shows.
That’s not how things work unfortunately; the second a show is cancelled, the clock starts ticking and then the window of time to keep it around shrinks quickly. Actors find other jobs, sets get torn down, contracts are cancelled, etc. I agree it should’ve not been cancelled – they should’ve simply either held it for midseason holes or kept it as a summer show (it’s light and fluffy and perfect as a summer show). But I fear CBS is standing by their decision.
I totally agree with you about Matlock though: I don’t see it doing well. I know this is the age of remaking everything (what next, a remake of My Mother, the Car?) but no one and I do mean NO ONE asked for this. Does anyone below the age of 80 even know what Matlock was??? I get it, CBS has been on a veritable bender of remaking every cop/legal procedural they can get their hands on (casting someone who looks like a 14-year-old in the MacGyver remake really takes the cake!) but come on! Who are they going for, the Dentugrip demographic?
Its not the same show!!! Only the title and loosely, the concept.
Still doesn’t change the fact that no one cares or asked for this remake. The only reason CBS even greenlighted it is because it’s a known IP based on a show that was on TV when dinosaurs roamed the earth. I can assure you that these days absolutely no one cares they’re reviving Matlock. Just like what happened with Night Court – at first it skated on its name and then the ratings took a dive because that remake isn’t good either and will never match up to the original.
I’m under 80 and know who Matlock is. If it happens to be on the justice network I will occasionally watch . I don’t think we need a remake.. now that the writers have new contracts maybe they could come up with original programming and sell it to a network that isn’t interested in doing reality and game shows
Watson may as well be DOA in getting the 10 PM Sunday slot even after football ends. Can’t say I’m really enthused about Thursday’s lineup with both Matlock and Elsbeth following the comedies. SHMT was a better fit than a rebooted Matlock. Fridays are going to different once there’s no more Blue Bloods.
Very True. Don’t watch whatever airs at 10pm on Cbs. That’s the death slot: Ncis LA then CSI Vegas…all cancelled
Matlock? Lol why? At least So Help Me Todd was an original show! I am officially done with CBS. They are making terrible decisions left and right and they certainly don’t give a sh!t about viewers.
New schedule means I hardly have to watch CBS at all! Once Blue Bloods is gone 😔, it’s just me & Tracker. Did I mention that cancelling “Todd” to make room for more franchises & game shows is another nail in CBS’s coffin?
I’m not watching cbs anymore. f them for canceling NCIS HAWAII
