Professionals, like many a onetime show on The CW, isn’t part of the new ownership’s game plan. But the action-drama might still have “one in the chamber,” as they say.
“The CW hasn’t renewed us for a second season,” Professionals co-creator Jeff Most, of Jeff Most Productions, informs TVLine. “However, we are shopping the second season of Professionals to other networks and streaming platforms.”
A spinoff of the 2012 movie Soldiers of Fortune and co-created by Most and Michael Colleary, Professionals filmed its 10-episode run back in the summer of 2019, in South Africa and Ireland. It aired Stateside on The CW last October through December.
The series follows Vincent Corbo (played by Smallville alum Tom Welling), a top-tier security operative who is paid to protect the interests of rich and powerful clients by any means necessary. In Season 1, Corbo was hired by billionaire futurist Peter Swann (Doom Patrol‘s Brendan Fraser), who suspected sabotage of his next-gen medical satellite.
Season 1 also starred Saïd Taghmaoui (John Wick 3), Ken Duken (Fate: The Winx Saga), Lisa Loven Kongsli, August Wittgenstein, Stevel Marc (Noughts + Crosses), Tanya Van Graan (Raised by Wolves) and Nic Rasenti (Outlander). Welling and Fraser are also executive producers on the series.
Season 1 concluded Stateside in late December, when Fraser was on the cusp of collecting Academy Award, Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations, for his lead role in The Whale. But regardless of Fraser going on to win both an Oscar and a SAG Award, “we didn’t intend to have his character return” in Season 2 of Professionals, co-creator Most says, “even though we adore Brendan and everything he brought to the first season.”
Welling, however, is game to continue on as Vincent Corbo, Most says, alongside a yet-to-be-cast female Season 2 co-lead.
“We developed the show with the intent of having each season be a new season-long mission, which encompasses protecting different individuals and companies, with a few new cast members,” Most explains. “In addition to the core team, we also plan to return some of the supporting-lead characters who will appear in the new season storyline.”

The cast was weak aside from Welling and Fraser. They should get Erica Durance as the female co-lead, she’s a badass and can take names and has great chemistry with Tom. She’d be 100x better than the other people they casted in S1.

It was a 2019 streaming drama, that cw got for a dime, I’m actually surprised CW said no, they must of crazily asked for that million an episode cw said they would pay.
Right? It wasn’t that good but had the tone that would have made it a better summer show when it comes to the cheap acquisitions, but they aren’t even getting that.
Yeah, it aired almost three years ago in the UK. If this show was any good, its original network would have ordered a second season years ago.
There is no original network. They’ve done the show and they sold it globally to various networks.
So have they already filmed Season 2 and are just searching for a play to air it in the US?
I hope not, since the new female lead has yet to be cast.
Matt, anytime I click on newer comments they never load. What gives?
Nexstar just hates the idea of anything that reminds people of the pre-Nexstar CW,
don’t they? Anyway, I wish the Professionals people luck….
Tom ROCKED as Vincent Corbo! Fingers crossed Season 2 will work out in the best way for Tom! Please keep up with the updates!
Filmed it in Cape Town. 2 hours of electricity a day. Apartheid? They freed themselves from the industrial age and electricity.
I really liked this show. I hope it finds a new home.
We loved the show would like to see more
This TV series is a winning risk for someone to pick up. I found the first season started rough but came around by the 3rd episode. I question how many got past the first few episodes before posting their bad reviews. I came across this series after watching “Reacher” and I wanted to find something similar to watch. This series blew right past “Reacher” in my opinion. It would be a shame if no network picked up this program and would run with it. The original cast a must, especially, Brandon Fraser and Tom Welling. It took me a few episodes to get use to Fraser in his role as Peter. I almost quit the show because I was hung up on the “Mummy” style Fraser. The characters and plot of the show took care of this halo effect I had going on. I challenge those who did not watch this series through to give the series the credit it deserves, watch it to the end. For those who saw it weak even after watching it through, perhaps, it was the halo effect (snap judgement based on a first impression towards the show itself, or the cast, or both). I believe networks need to reevaluate what brought about the negative reviews. I feel strongly this show was and is a winning series. Too bad it was eliminated from the race just as it had picked up its pace to WIN the race!
Professionals is the best show ever aired on the CW. I hope it finds a new home!
After watching this show without commercials. I’ve a completely different perspective and I absolutely love this action as long as the pace stays quick with good action. Can’t beat Tom Welling in any show. Plus as long as “SL” stays well thought out. This show should continue to be completely entertaining. I’m a huge fan and we need shows with good writing casting and decent production. The production levels are my only complaint.Of course that seems to be a budget hang up for many productions. Any upgrades will in that ares would be extremely effective … Bring on more seasons of “The Professionals Please ,Big Fan

Loved the show. Would like to see Season 2.
Not many shows make me stay up all night. Just couldn’t stop watching it. Hope we get a season two from somewhere.
