The CW is grounding Superman & Lois after its upcoming fourth season, TVLine has learned. The series’ 10-episode swan song is expected to air sometime in 2024.
Season 3 concluded in June with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) facing off against iconic DC villain Doomsday, who is now seemingly immortal after getting an assist from Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz). Both Hoechlin and Cudlitz are returning as series regulars in Season 4, along with Bitsie Tulloch as Lois, Alex Garfin as Jordan and Michael Bishop as Jonathan.
“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” CW president Brad Schwartz says in a statement. “We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever.”
Adds executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher: “While we’re sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season 4, we’re grateful for the time we’ve had with our amazing cast, crew, vfx teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that’s what was created — on and off screen. We’d like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey…and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We’re thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can’t wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show’s history — Lex Luthor.”
When Superman & Lois was renewed for a fourth season earlier this year, it was hit by significant budget cuts, impacting both the size of its cast and its writing staff. A number of former series regulars — Wolé Parks as John Henry, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana, Inde Navarrette as Sarah, Tayler Buck as Natalie, Erik Valdez as Kyle, Sofia Hasmik as Chrissy and Dylan Walsh as Sam — will not be returning full-time, but the Powers That Be are hopeful we’ll see them again in some capacity.
Superman & Lois is executive-produced by Greg Berlanti, Todd Helbing, Sarah Schechter, Brent Fletcher and Geoff Johns.
The series also represents the final piece of the Berlanti-produced DC fare that once dominated the network. Other shows under that umbrella included Arrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning, The Flash, Gotham Knights, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.
TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect Superman & Lois‘ impending conclusion. Are you disappointed to see it come to an end after four seasons? Drop a comment with your hopes for the final episodes below.
Hate to see it end.It will be missed
That’s a shame. This is a really good show.
I really enjoyed the show, especially the family dynamic. Hate to see it end.
Too bad, but not surprising with the state the CW is in
Gotta clear the slate for some reality cr@p no one will watch
I don’t think anyone should be surprised by this. It seemed pretty obvious with how last season ended and all the cast cuts. Good to have confirmation and we will have a proper ending.
That is too bad, my husband and I both really enjoyed the show. But I also think they might have well just ended it now, because they were in a decent place and so many of the cast is not returning. Ending it now would make the most sense.
Absolutely disappointed to hear the news that the is ending. Hopefully it will be picked up by another network. Fingers crossed.
@ Kelly Klein: Are you really surprised? If another network were to pick it up, they’d have to bring back all the cast members they lost.
Superman movies are coming in 2025, the show would of been done with yr 5 no matter what, WB just didn’t want it to end as an incomplete series, they do not want it airing concurrently with the movie series same as flash, writers strike cut 1 potential season 5 of 10 episodes, but either way it was over, new cw can’t afford it, even reduced budget it cost to much with no backend
Sorry I don’t see that happening, I have been trying to get people and other fans of other canceled CW shows to RenewNancyDrew. That was my favorite show. I kept On going any where to spek my mind about the cw canceling @cwNancyDrew but no one seems to care. Because of the Strike I have been going on Fan sites to. So if you love your CW T.V. show speck up because. I been trying with mine so far nothing.
We knew it was coming, but glad the show is getting the respect and opportunity to end on its own terms. Tyler and Bitsy have been great in the roles.
I just hope this means they can go out on their terms storywise. HOpefully Nexstar told them that they’ll get one more season. I’m OK with any show ending so long as it’s able to end on the right note. That’s why I was mad about Legends and Batwoman but moreso Batwoman.
I hate what they did to Legends and Batwoman!
Even after a HUGE campain on Twitter Batwoman was still not saved. horrible.
That Twitter campaign is still going on -don’t give up hope.
One of the last family dramas left.
No, not disappointed because half the cast is gone. Not surprised either. Season four won’t be the same, so it might lose a lot of viewers.
No surprise at all. Considering the budget cuts and all the actors they let go, the writing was on the wall it was likely the final season.
I was considering retirement after the post Season 3 cast firings. In addition, Doomsday stories have moved from innovative thirty years ago to tedious now. The decision is now easy. Hope others enjoy season 4.
I know I will!!
And with this news thus will come the absolute End of Live-Action Superhero Televison on Traditional Network Television as we know it.
All that’s left of Superhero TV is DC’s Teen Titans Go! on Cartoon Network and Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur on Disney Channel.
GOOD-BYE LIVE-ACTION NETWORK SUPERHERO TV!
Hope they shop this show to find it a new home. One of the better shows on TV.
I understand the CW is looking to bow out of all scripted series but this seriously was one of the better shows on air. Berlanti should take his shows and pitch them to another network…possibly streaming or cable.
They’re not looking to bow out of all scripted series. Most shows on their schedule currently are scripted, and announced they have more to air and in development firnext year.
I could have sworn that I read something that basically stated they weren’t going to have many scripted series at all. They were being boasted as reality series, golf, and imported shows.
That’s actually incorrect. All their scripted shows are shows they’ve bought from canada and already aired there and being reaired in america for first time. All American, walker and Superman and Lois are the only actual still produced scripted stuff they make.
Their still in the scripted world they just want it done cheap under a million an episode and to have some ownership of backend, previously everything made for cw scripted costed more and allowed cw network the 5 last episodes aired for 1 season on the app.
Wb and cbs retained all international, streaming, and syndication money. Making them rich off backend, and network poor on front end.
Network was AR such a loss cbs and wb sold 75% ownership to ne star for free as long as they paid debt owned.
Primarily this season is Canadian dramas and sitcoms but if other studios have deals that are within above priameters they could be cw shows, been 2 strikes going on so who knows.
Pete is correct, Chuck. Check again. And you did, Kim.
Wow, another boneheaded decision at the CW network. Tyler and Bitsie were the best Superman/Clark and Lois in years. This show deserves to run for much longer than four seasons.

The Show should have been About SUPERMAN not side superman and friends! Should have stayed away from smallville, not all the time but mostly seen the show in METROPOLIS.
Smallville still out ranks these dc show coz smallville knew when not to show cheesey cgi and nonsense
Smallville as great as it was used a lot of cheesy CGI compared to S & L which looks cinematic with better than tv quality CGI. The family aspect and all the supporting characters are what make this show so good and unique in the Superman live action movies and tv shows. I have confidence that even with the reduced budget and cast the creators will still knock it out of the park but I am sorry to see it end.
No, Smallville certainly had cinimatic Cgi for it’s time that got better as the series went on. Also Smallville had an amazing family dynamic between Clark and his parents. Which has been mirrored in S&L. As well as great supporting characters that made it unique in all of Superman lore. It has been honored and paid tribute too in several ways throughout the Arrowverse and even S&L owes debt to it, namely in that showrunner Todd Helbing first wrote for Smallville. As well as other ways.
Finally! About time all of the CW DC nonsense is put in the rear view mirror. What an attrocity to real DC and Superman fans. Yes I know there were many fans and they have their own tastes; but I wasn’t one of them. Now lets see what James Gunn can do with the characters.
Yeah he’s already announced a Superman movie called Superman legacy saying it will be about Superman but will have a lot of side characters
Not to mention that if there is a new Superman Show, it will be with David Corenswet as Superman, given that in Gunn’s new DC Universe once an actor or actress is cast in a role, they are cast in that role across the whole of the Universe’s plethora of projects: Movies, Live-Action TV, Animated Projects, and Video Games.
I was surprised that they were renewed for season four, but I’m not surprised in the least that season four will be the last. I think after 2024 I will not be watching anything on The CW at all which is so sad considering I used to watch it almost every single night.
I’m not surprised but will still miss it when it goes. I will hold out slim hope that someone will see the value of it and pick it up if it’s being shopped.
Heck yeah I’m disappointed. Love this show. For the last season I’d like to see Superman be affected by red kryptonite go crazy and destroy the CW. Shouldn’t be hard to do since they seem intent on destroying themselves anyway.
Stupid CW. Not surprised. Every good show gets canceled.
My heart is broken. The best DC series, the best Superman series, the best series of the moment that is going away. I was so hoping for 5 seasons. I’m devastated.
