Yeesh, talk about waiting for Superman.
As The CW took the stage at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Thursday, the network announced return dates for legacy dramas Walker and All American.
The premiere date for Superman & Lois‘ fourth and final season, however, is nowhere to be seen on The CW’s springtime schedule.
Instead, the last Arrowverse-adjacent series standing is being held for fall, TVLine has learned.
As Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment for The CW, explained during his TCA executive session, Superman & Lois‘ final season is “going to blow your minds” — and since the series also requires meaningful post-production, it was decided to showcase it for advertisers at the May Upfronts and then premiere it in the fall.
“I am not kidding, this season is going to be one of the best shows on TV,” Schwartz told TVLine. “I watched the first episode last night, and it’s gonna make you cry. It’s amazing.
“Because of all the special effects, it could be ready for summer…,” he added, but “we feel like it would be wasted in the summer. So let’s put it in the fall where we can sell it in the Upfront [and] really, really talk about it.”
Also missing from The CW’s spring sked is All American: Homecoming; Schwartz told TVLine that it will return as soon as All American‘s 13-episode Season 6 wraps.
It was only five weeks ago that Superman & Lois began production on its 10-episode farewell run. The show’s third season concluded back in June with Superman (played Tyler Hoechlin) facing off against iconic DC villain Doomsday, who is now seemingly immortal after getting an assist from Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz).
Both Hoechlin and Cudlitz are returning as series regulars in Season 4, along with Bitsie Tulloch as Lois, Alex Garfin as Jordan and Michael Bishop as Jonathan.
At the time of the final season announcement back in November, co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher said in a statement, “While we’re sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season 4, we’re grateful for the time we’ve had with our amazing cast, crew, VFX teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that’s what was created — on and off screen. We’d like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey…and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We’re thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can’t wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show’s history — Lex Luthor.”

Just air the final season already. You are doing a HUGE disservice to the fans by holding it for so long.
It’s not ready.. they just started shooting and the vfx take a long time
And then you’ll complain that the FX is horrible. Let the finish and do it right.
I Can’t wait For Superman And Lois season 4 But Sad To See It Go I Superman And Lois
I am very glad they are hold Superman and Lois until the Fall. Running it over the Summer would seem like they were burning off the episodes. Let them promote the heck out of it.
I had a feeling this would happen given the FX time but I did have some worry they would air it in summer. They did show quite a few shots in their 2024 sizzle reel so hopefully that is a good sign, even if I am sad this is likely it for DC on CW :(
I bet DC will continue on HBO Max once James Gunn gets things going.
I think they should just air it come summer 2024. Superman Legacy premieres in 2025 and now that S&L is premiering in fall…I suspect that the 2nd half of the season will be aired in the first half of 2025? IMO Superman and Lois will get overshadowed by all the Legacy hype and promotion. We’ll probably even have a trailer at that point. I just think it’ll be better to air the final season as soon as possible. Let everyone have a good long Superman break for about a year, then come back and launch the new franchise with Legacy. Now it seems S&L will end right at the time when Legacy is due to come out. Don’t oversaturate your product.
It’s only 10 episodes.. it will finish by november
It’s 10 episodes. If it starts in September or October it can be over before the end of the year.
If Superman and Lois continues the Doomsday storyline, it would be a fitting end to end the Superman series with the Death of Supermand and the Reign of the Supermen with his son and Steel defending the world. It would be awesome to see it done live action and done correctly. We can ignore that terrible movie that was made.
I’m not sure I could cope with Tyler’s version of Superman/Clark being killed. Such a sweet, hopeful, kind portrayal. Would be too cruel.
I agree. He is one of the best actors to play the character. His Superman is great and he plays Clark like no other has.
We’ll, then he’ll get to be Superman Reborn in a revival of the series!

I’m fine with it being held until the fall. Can’t wait for season 4 and to see Tyler and Bitsie back in action. Love this show.
“Final season” man that still hurts. And even more after reading it will be epic. In my opinion there are to many bad shows on air. I wish they would get rid of them and keep the money for S&L.
Favorite show on TV.Really excited for season 4. Tyler is a fantastic Superman and Clark.
Glad they’re holding it until fall and also sounds like they might actually promote the final season. This show deserves all the love. Can’t wait for season 4 and also to see what Tyler and Bitsie will do next. They’ve been fantastic in this so I’ll be checking out whatever they do next.
Final season hurts but I console myself that there’s still 10 more episodes of this brilliant show.
Writers and Tyler Hoechlin, thank you for giving me a perfect live action Superman and Clark Kent. Will watch this show over and over.
Didn’t know what to expect when they announced this show but it has been a joy to watch. I hope the final season continues that. Can’t wait for season 4.
Really happy we’re getting a fourth season and that everyone involved knew it was the final season so that they could plan and write for that. Epic show and cast.
Sad we’ve only 10 episodes left but glad we got them seeing all the changes at the CW and DC.
A little off topic, but I’m wondering how many of fans of Tyler Hoechlin have seen him in “The Road to Perdition” as a twelve year old. He was absolutely fantastic in the role with Tom Hanks. So much so, that it’s why I remember his name.
Excellent movie. I still haven’t rewatched since enjoying Hoechlin as an adult, I really need to.
I mean, it’s a bummer, but it makes sense that it would take longer to get this to air
Considering the new CW doesn’t seem to have much of the new stuff sticking around, perhaps we may see Superman and Lois sooner than fall.
I find it funny they want to be a fifth network. I would argue Fox is not a full 4th network. They program at least 7 less hours of prime time, have no morning programming, no evening news, and beyond NFL football, limited sports (wrestling isn’t a sport, sorry, my opinion).
In my eyes The CW of before (and the real one) that was spearheaded by Mark Pedowitz did qualify enough to be considered as a fifth network seeing it had multiple scripted shows airing from Sunday to Fridays on prime time with the exceptions here and there like Saturday nights where it aired game shows like Whose Line Is It Anyway, for example.
Their slate of shows ranged of many genres that there was everything for everyone: from fantasy genre (SPN, TVD, The Originals, Legacies and Charm), sports drama (All American), live-action comic book adaptations (DC, Riverdale), survival/sci-fi (The 100, Roswell: New Mexico), mystery (Nancy Drew), remakes (Kung Fu, Dynasty) and it was enough to keep the atention of audiences. But now that they mass canceled everything and are relaying mostly on unscripted cheap shows? They sure don’t deserve to even be contenders for the spot of a 5th network. Those days are sadly gone and they got no one but themselves to thank for the debacle of the network’s legacy.
It only started filming last months and sfx/vfx take a lot of time on this show
This was by far rhe best of the Arrowverse shows. It deserves more.
