Can we get a “yee-haw”?
At long last, Yellowstone has lassoed a premiere date for the second half of its fifth and final season. The Western drama’s last episodes will begin Sunday, Nov. 10, at 8/7c, Paramount Network announced Thursday. (Watch a short teaser above.)
Production on Season 5B is currently underway in Montana. By the time Yellowstone returns for its final installments, it will have been off the air for nearly two years, after Season 5A concluded on Jan. 1, 2023.
And it’s been a topsy-turvy hiatus for the series: Before the Writers Guild of America strike began last May, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan had completed scripts for the back half of Season 5 that did not include star Kevin Costner, after the decision to split Season 5 into two halves interfered with production on Costner’s upcoming feature film Horizon. Amid reports of Costner’s behind-the-scenes demands and tension with Sheridan, Costner has since said he’d “love” to do more Yellowstone, if “I feel really comfortable with it.” (Update: It was confirmed on June 21 that Costner is not returning.)
Meanwhile, Paramount Network has ordered two more Yellowstone spinoffs: the prequel series 1944, and the contemporary offshoot 2024, which will reportedly feature new cast members and locations, as well as crossover characters from the mothership. As of mid-2023, Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer were in talks to headline 2024, but nothing has been made official. Yellowstone vets Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser and Luke Grimes are also in the conversation for 2024, where they’d reprise their respective roles as Beth, Rip and Kayce, but their alleged salary demands have reportedly jeopardized their involvement.
Reilly, for her part, has encouraged Yellowstone fans to remain skeptical about reports of her and her co-stars’ salary disputes.
“There are discussions, you know. Don’t believe everything you read,” the actress said in March. “It’s just nonsense.”
Glad to have Yellowstone back soon-ish? Tell us below.
I’m sure I will watch but putting all the drama regarding Costner to one side for a moment, John Dutton is what connects the older generation and the new generation of Dutton’s to really bring to light what the land meant to his father and previous generations of his family. Plus he also controlled Beth who was becoming over the top in the first half of Season 5 and this comes from someone who loved her character the first 4 seasons. It is so annoying when people’s ego’s get the better of them and they can’t be grown ups and hash their differences out so that we could have looked forward to this great show going for another couple of seasons without all this drama.
I fully agree. Actually just shocked myself as I was reading the above article that I wasn’t really that interested in the whole thing anymore. I’m sure that I will watch but as of right now I could care less about any of these shows -including the ghost of 1923 or whatever that was so long ago.
Couldn’t care less* and agreed.
That ship has sailed. It was just too long of a wait. Considering that there was a lot of disruption and tension in the off-season created by Costner and/or Sheridan, I can no longer by vested in this show. To be honest I don’t remember most of the show at this point and I just do not have the time to go back to previous episodes to refresh my memory.
I’m sure the first episode will open with a lengthy recap. Nobody expects viewers to remember two years back if they don’t have access to streaming reruns.
I feel the same way. Usually when a show I really enjoy comes back for a new season I will watch the last couple of episodes (at least) from the last season but I just don’t really care about Yellowstone now. I’m sure I will watch the last episodes just because of my completest nature but I’m not- I just can’t wait- excited. It’s kind of sad that egos killed a really good show.
Meet their demands. Taylor is being greedy. He’s a millionaire bc ofb5he show. I back the actors as they r the reason ppl actually watch this series.
All I can say is shame on you guys for taking so long getting back on the air.
I’ll be watching, Costner or no Costner. I’ll skip the 3 hour (!) part 1 of his movie saga.
When Kevin’s done, I’m done with all that Taylor Sheridan is involved with. I was your biggest binger. It won’t be the same to finish the best series ever. He made the show. He has millions of fans.
Lol, the release will be on my bday …
LOL…day before mine!
I will be ready, it’s on my calendar! Say what you want, it is a great show, and I would never miss the end.
TV Line, you might want to edit the part of your story that says Yellowstone will return to Paramount+ this fall.
Fixed.
I absolutely love Yellowstone. I’m glad we get a ending cause it shouldn’t of ended like that. Especially RIP and Kasey. They both did great in the show. Both sexy. Keep up the work. Beth is just always angry and she needs to grow up and get along with people.
I’ve totally lost interest especially with Taylor Sheridan’s exploding ego in play and how he so overextended himself. I’ve enjoyed the prequels much more and will see Costner’s movies.
.
I remember an interview that Sheridan gave to Deadline (I think) and I’m paraphrasing here when Harrison Ford made the comment that he felt like he was doing good work in 1923. Sheridan asked when the f**k he had done anything better? Turned me right off Sheridan, totally. jmo
I can’t keep in all these sagas straight sometimes. Time passing doesn’t help me hold interest. Did CBS nor finish running past seasons?
Paramount channel has been running the show for the last two years every holiday.
I will watch but I hope this won’t be like the last season of House of Cards without Spacey. Fortunately, Yellowstone has a lot more appealing supporting characters.
With all this talk about Yellowstone, has anyone mentioned when 1923 will be back? I understood they were doing a season 2 to at least finish what they started with that prequel.
What is happening to the 2nd half of 1923? Is that done now?
I think it’s ridiculous just because Costner doesn’t want to be in it that they are cancelling it!!! Screw him there are too many other actors out there that can replace him!!! Yellowstone is a great show with or without him!!!! Keep it going!!!! And quit the spin offs they are stupid!!!
I can’t wait. I am looking forward to seeing this.
I can do without kevin! I would like to see Beth and Rip be the anchor. Rip can handle her.
Hope that they are in another series.
Didn’t like ’23
