We Are Lady Parts is finally back after a looong hiatus, and the all-female Muslim punk rock band is wasting no time coming up with new hit songs.
In TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek from Season 2 — premiering with all six episodes this Thursday, May 30 on Peacock — Amina suggests to her bandmates that they write “a song about strong women in their power who also have boundaries and non-negotiables.”
As part of her “villain era,” Amina has even already crafted some lyrics for such a girl power anthem, but they’re not exactly what her friends were hoping for: “Jimmy ate my yogurt / Now he’s putting it back in the fridge / I got your email, Jimmy / You sent it at night / You expect a response, but I’m tucked in tight”
So maybe they’re not the most edgy, but they are surprisingly relatable, which is perhaps why the group agrees to do the song.
The new season “sees the band return with a renewed artistic mission after the high of their first UK tour, only to find a rival band threatens their delicate status quo,” reads the official synopsis. “As the reality of chasing success sets in, Lady Parts embarks on recording their first album, juggling personal ambitions and deciding whether ‘making it big’ is really what they want.”
“In Season 2, we explore the interior lives of each of the women in more depth. Each of them facing new, existential challenges with all the silliness, pratfalls and banter of Season 1,” creator Nida Manzoor added in a statement. “The music is bigger too — more wild original tunes (penned by me and my siblings) and dare I say it, even better covers. The season overall asks the question of success. What is success? For a punk band, is fame, stadium shows and major record deals the answer? I wanted to explore the uncomfortable tension between art and commerce and ask how much compromise is too much.”

I binged the first season last week. It’s very good and this scene is promising.
The only western show I’ve seen in the past four years is Picard but, since I am getting fed up with korean and other east asian dramas, I thought I’d go back to my origins. When I saw this, I changed my mind. It is not time yet for me to go back!
I signed up for Peacock in 2022 (looks like this show came out in 2021) and I never saw any promo for this show, but I stumbled across it last week and watched the trailer. It looks super fun and it’s a nice surprise that I’ll be able to watch season 2 so quickly. I’ll be sure to watch both seasons in the next few weeks.
