Another week, another demon baby born amid bloodcurdling screams. Hey, American Horror Story is nothing if not consistent.
Wednesday’s episode, billed as the finale of AHS: Delicate Part 1, begins with a trip back to 1987 Manhattan, where a young designer (psst, it’s Ms. Preecher!) experiences a violent, terrifying birth at the hands of Dr. Hill and the Ashleys — or whatever names they were going by at that time.
Present-day Ms. Preecher, of course, is still in stalker mode, only now she appears to have shifted her sights to Dex’s mother, who is devastated that he doesn’t support her case against his father. The two women eventually sit down for drinks and exposition, during which Ms. Preecher’s full backstory is revealed: A star student at FIT in the late ’80s, she was scooped up as an apprentice to Karl Lagerfeld and Saint Laurent before she even graduated. A one-night stand during Fleet Week resulted in a pregnancy that she intended to abort, but she was stopped by a woman who promised to “help” her in exchange for the baby.
Ms. Preecher also explains that the Women in Black are targeting Dex’s family because one of their “most powerful players” (aka Adeline) left the group after falling in love with Dex.
Meanwhile, Anna is having another gangbusters week of her own. Not only does Dr. Hill put her on bedrest, causing her to miss the Golden Globes (nooo!!!), but Siobhan also takes on her literal rival as a client with no warning and zero apologies. And this isn’t just any rival — evil takes a human form in Babette Eno, whose every breath includes a casual digs at Anna’s age or weight.
Sonia shows up to ease Anna’s concerns about her stalker, but only ends up making herself seem more guilty by lying about never wearing green shoes. She further screws with Anna’s head by denying that she’s in the photograph Anna found in the kitchen drawer. You know, the same picture from which Nurse Ivy seemingly disappeared.
Anna gets a massage to ease her pain and distract her from the Globes, but Gossip Girl — sorry, “Cora” — gets a little too handsy. For the record, no massage should ever end with the client, or anyone for that matter, yelling, “Get your fingers out of me!” Dex laughs off Anna’s claims that Cora molested her, finally admitting that he doesn’t believe her about anything. He even thinks she’s been lying about having a stalker in the first place. And just when you think you can’t hate him enough, Dex ends the fight by nonchalantly saying, “I’m going to watch the Globes. You coming?” That man is sick.
It comes as no surprise when Babette is announced as the winner, though what happens next is considerably more unexpected: Siobhan calls Anna to ask if she wants an Oscar. Like, more than a baby. Enough to do anything. Anna says yes without hesitation, only to suddenly wake up the next morning to the news that Babette had been (gulp) decapitated in a car accident.
Siobhan and Hamish’s confusing affair is also revisited, and he apparently has just as many questions as we do. It turns out that Siobhan gave him the script for The Auteur without ever telling him who actually wrote it, making its inexplicable success all the more suspicious. Then he asks the million-dollar question: “What the f–k is going on, Siobhan, and who the hell are you?”
For another $500,000, we’ll throw in another question for Siobhan: Um… Did you kill Babette?
What did you think of Wednesday’s finale? AHS: Delicate Part 1 in general? Grade the first half of Season 12 in the poll below, then drop a comment with your full review.
I just hope the 2nd half isn’t too far off or the show loses some of the punch. Not bad so far and thank the lord they FINALLY let Anna stand up for herself. Hubby is complete jerk.
A great first half to the season. Looking forward to seeing the next half.
Oh so many revelations! So many questions! I knew Siobhan was bad news when she first used a word I can’t repeat here. We knew “the Ashleys” were timeless, but Dr Hill too? A treat! My big question is-Who is Ms Preecher’s kid? No idea of the dad,so it could be anyone from Dex (maybe adopted?) to Siobhan to Sonia to the house manager to…Anna herself? Please hurry with part 2!!!
The first 5 season of AHS were amazing, they had a great atmosphere due to the camera work matching the sounds and music. Since then its like ryan murphy has given up, the show is a complete mess, theres nothing special about it anymore.
Sooo slow going! Very disappointed with the boring story line. Definitely won’t be adding this one to my AHS collection. Wake up writers ! Or get someone that can do a better job. My husband and I used to look forward to watching AHS but with this one not so much. Probably won’t tune in to the second half!
I’ve seen every season of AHS and liked most of them. Everyone seems to be loving this season, but I’m having a hard time caring. I was dreading the Kim K role, but she’s been much better than expected. It’s the rest of the show that is just not grabbing my attention. I’ll keep watching though.
Emma Roberts is the reason I really watch the show.No matter what character she plays she nails it. I would love to see her play a vampire in the series ha haa 🤣🤣🤣
“You know, the same picture from which Nurse Ivy seemingly disappeared.”
Wait, when was this?
It’s around the 15:00 mark (that’s including commercials). Anna picks up the photo that she found in the drawer and Ivy shows up in the background, then disappears. A very quick moment.
I’m so confused. The Oscar had been awarded. It doesn’t go to the second runner up!
This was just the Golden Globes. With Babette dead, there will be less competition for Anna at the Oscars.
There have been people that posthumously won an Oscar. Like Heath Ledger. The girl who died can still win by getting sympathy votes.
I honestly found it hilarious that Dex’s mother was surprised he had no interest in testifying against his father and didn’t believe her, after she insinuated last week that she never even wanted her son and that Anna only wanted a baby as an accessory. LOL What did she expect? That scene in the alley was creepy, though.
Preecher’s story was horrifying. I knew Dr. Hill was no good, but I was legitimately surprised that she was trying to protect Dex and Anna by telling Dex’s mother about her experience. The fact that Adeline was an “operator” wasn’t really surprising, but her defecting because she fell in love with Dex implies she was killed for it by the society. I wasn’t expecting Dex to be the actual target by going through Anna. All the ice cream in the freezer was weird.
Sonia is all kinds of creepy, and Anna was dumb for inviting her to dinner. And, her hotel room is only 15 minutes away? Red flag. Not to mention referring to Adeline as the “carefree blonde” who looks like “my less evil twin.” The house manager definitely recognized Sonia because she’s part of the same cult or whatever, not because she looks like Adeline. What a lame excuse for why she opened Anna’s present.
Dr. Hill blowing off Anna’s pain was disgusting. He wasn’t going to take it seriously and even do anything, until he saw the look Dex gave him. Even though we know everything Anna is seeing is real, I can’t blame Dex for finally admitting he doesn’t believe her when she pushed him on it. She was looking for a fight, and he gave her one. What did she expect honestly? Every time she tells him she saw something, he doesn’t see it. Of course he doesn’t believe her. To him, it sounds crazy that Cora would have violated Anna like that. Anna’s convinced he’s having an affair with Sonia, so of course he’s going to finally explode with “I’m not having an affair!” and admit he thinks she’s crazy. Then, she has an attitude about him being honest, when she kept pushing the issue with him until he was?
Anna’s stupid though, and she keeps making bad decisions. With Babette’s convenient death after telling Siobhan she’d do anything for an Oscar, I hope she finally realizes that Siobhan is not her friend. She should have realized that when Siobhan didn’t seem to care about why Anna was upset about Siobhan hiding the fact she was representing Babette too. It’s show business, yes. But, why was she hiding it and then acting surprised that Anna was ticked off?
Siobhan doesn’t care about Anna or Babette. She got Babette a Golden Globe, but definitely arranged Babette’s death after Anna told her she’d do anything for an Oscar. Siobhan cares about who’s willing to go the farthest for awards and accolades. Wake up, Anna.
I know we’re supposed to be rooting for Anna here and see Dex as the bad guy, but it’s hard for me to sympathize with her when she makes such stupid decisions constantly.
I think the house manager is not part of the cult. I think she knows about them though and maybe lost a baby to them or something. I think her baby she keeps talking about is not real. Also i think that the ice cream and pickles in the frig were left by the house manager because she is obsessed with pregnancy. But i thought it was strange because that looked like the frig especially with the pickles being there first but how could all that ice cream be in the frig without metling? i think that even though Dex seems like a horrible man, i dont think he is. I think he was geniunely supportive in the beginning and really wants to have a baby with her. But then when he thought she lost the baby he was getting upset because he coudnt grieve because he had to take care of her. I think he is just at his last straw with her. I dont think he is having an affair with Sonia but i think Sonia is part of the cult and she is doing things to make it seem like he is.
