At this point, Yellowstone’s Jamie should really just wear protective gear 24/7. Whether he deserves all of the abuse that’s heaped upon him — and, more often than not, he does — the guy just takes one blow after another. In Sunday’s episode, he gained a terrible new insight into why he was, as Beth so recently reminded him, evil incarnate. She, in turn, took two major steps toward making the road she travels in life a happy trail. What, exactly, did she do? And what did Jamie find out? Keep reading…
‘COOL S–T AINT CHEAP AND CHEAP S–T AIN’T COOL’ | As “The Beating” began, a bunch of cows and calves were stolen from the Duttons, which immediately turned Kayce into a Stetson-wearing Hardy Boy. When the denim-clad detective subsequently laid eyeballs on a suspicious character at the sale barn in Billings, said suspicious character tried to drive away, only to have Kayce give chase on horseback (!) and lasso him around the neck (!!). Once Kayce had the name of the rustler for whom this baddie worked, he, Ryan and Agent Hendon went to apprehend him and wound up in a shootout that left the villain dead, his little girl scarred for life and the supporting players injured and bloody. And that was all just a subplot!
Back at the ranch, Rip was ticked to discover that the bunk house was one woman away from devolving into girl talk and pillow fights. Et tu, Lloyd? Hey, replied Grandpa. Laramie’s “old enough to vote and buy bullets.” And she and Mia weren’t hangers-on, they were willing to work. The latter went so far as to insist on accompanying a still-recovering Jimmy and Rip to sell a horse that couldn’t be broken. Mind you, what she mostly worked was Rip’s nerves, yammering on like the truck would explode if she stopped talking. “When we get back to the ranch,” Rip grumbled to Jimmy, “I’m gonna kill you with my bare f–king hands.” Before that, however, he showed the would-be rodeo star a kid half his age and twice the rider — and pointed out that, despite how good the youngster was, he could still die. Rip wasn’t telling Jimmy not to return to the rodeo, though. This, he said, was just “my way of showing you why you shouldn’t.”
‘YOU DIDN’T TELL ME YOU WERE ADOPTED’ | At the main house, John asked Beth if she was going to marry Rip. “Maybe,” she said. [Beat] “If he asks me.” [Beat] “Yes.” If she was waiting for that to happen, it was never gonna, said her dad. Rip would never ask him for her hand in marriage, and he’d never ask Beth if he hadn’t asked John first. So, he suggested, Beth was going to have to ask Rip herself. In response, she asked if Rip could have her hand. Of course, he could. “Happy’s all I’ve ever wanted for you, sweetheart. You give him your hand if he gives you that.” Thus concludes the most uses of the word “hand” in a single paragraph in history. Meanwhile, Jamie was distracted from his inquiry into John’s power of attorney — hmm — by his secretary informing him that the election committee needed a certified copy of his birth certificate, stat.
So, off Jamie went to another office in the building, only to have his life changed in an instant. The clerk — and the paperwork she produced — revealed that he’d been adopted by the Duttons when he was just three months old. What’s more, his biodad, Garrett Randall, had gone to prison for the second-degree murder of Jamie’s biomom! “Who the f–k are you?” Jamie asked himself afterwards. Understandably, he was shook. Elsewhere, Beth met with Angela for what, it seems, is her favorite kind of get-together: short and nebulous. “You have a tiger by the tail with” Willa, Angela warned. Well, duh. “To win” against Market Equities, she added, “we’re gonna have to get dirty.” Well, duh: the sequel. Mind you, Beth wasn’t fazed. She didn’t have to get dirty, “I stay dirty,” she said. So, uh, good meeting. Very substantive.[pmc_inline_gallery]
‘ANYTIME YOU WANNA RASSLE A BEAR INSTEAD OF A CUB, PICK THE BARN, I’LL MEET YOU BEHIND IT’ | Later, John was trying to enjoy a relaxing lunch at a diner when he wound up bumping into Wade and his henchman/son. We still didn’t find out why they so dislike one another, but we did glean some valuable intel after John deflected the younger man’s attempt to defend his dad from a verbal assault with a physical one. Apparently, despite the fact that once upon a time John had given Wade a job and a home, the rapscallion had stolen the one thing a cowboy doesn’t steal. (BTW, he wanted whatever that was back.) Also, Wade had been hired to do a job. (By Roarke maybe? Was that job mainly to annoy John? If so, Wade was killing it!) When Rip got home from his day from hell, Beth made it a whole lot better by presenting him with a simple ring. “I didn’t think you were a diamonds and gold kinda girl,” she joked. But seriously, “I don’t need presents,” he said, “just you.” Ah, but “that’s what it means. It means that you have me, I’m yours. It means ‘Come live your life with me.’”
Needless to say, Rip accepted Beth’s proposal once he learned that John had given his OK. The one problem? They couldn’t legally tie the knot since, on paper, Rip didn’t exist. Didn’t matter to Beth one bit. She wanted to symbolically get married in the mountains in front of family and friends. Well, “I don’t have any friends, but should I make one… ” And that was that. It was settled! As day gave way to night, Jamie found John in the living room. “You always preached the truth,” said Jamie. “You said it’s all a man has, his word. Judge him by nothing else. Are there different rules for judging you?” But John wasn’t about to apologize for raising Jamie and keeping his awful birthright a secret. Hell, earning the right to call him son was, in his estimation, “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” Now Jamie could choose, though. He could find his lowlife biological dad, “look into his rotten heart and choose who you call father.” Oh, Jamie. Choose wisely. What did you think of “The Beating”? Were you as surprised as Jamie to find out he was adopted? And how freaking perfect are Rip and Beth? That’s a wedding I want to attend!
All along I’ ve thought John was NOT Jamie’s Dad but Evelyn’s by another. Great storyline again, LOVE IT AND CANNOT WAIT UNTIL BETH FIND’ S THE TRUTH! YE HAW!
Wow! Yes, good to know Jamie was adopted and more. Loved the father-daughter scene the most. Happy for Beth and Rip’s engagement, and her choice of the mountains as witnesses. Poor Kayce; even when he steps up and handles things, something bad happens.
I hate that this new job of Kacey has kept him in the dark about whats going on at the ranch, he dont know about what Jamie done to Beth, her and Rip engagement or Jamie. I love when John and Kacey have scenes together that feels off this season
All along? Doubtful that it was a plot that the writers had in mind until this season. Anyway, John made It clear that his wife was not the biological mother. I’m guessing that the biological mother was John or Evelyn’s sister. In any event, she was somebody they knew.
Didn’t say writers..just from my perspective as a Sociologist &Studies in Behavioral Management,..I FELT that Jamie’s 360 degree polar opposite looks & demeanor…I spoke of Jamie NOT being a Dutton from mid point of Season 1 to ME.. That’s all, along. I’m not a theater, drama, writing expert.Just look at him & how e quivered one jelly for 2 seasons.
Excuse me..how Jamie has quivered like jelly for 2 seasons. He actually runs around a room to put distance between himself & Beth. Qualities NOT seen, all along, in Kaycee or Beth.
Didn’t think of that!, but when was Jamies REAL mother killed, and when was Evelyn killed…maybe that is why Beth hates Jamie…she already knows he is adopted….
It was a big surprise about Jamie being adopted. He’s going to be even more messed up now. Can’t wait to see how this plays out. I’m excited for Beth and Rip. Bring on the wedding!
That poor dude Jamie is just cursed from the start! Hope Rip & Beth do live happily ever after & that their union is official. Makes me wonder what he’ll do if/when he finds out why Beth is sterile. I do wanna see John kick Wade’s ass into the dirt!!!!
He already knows she can’t have children, just not the reason as that it was his child she aborted
So true! Jamie literally begged by thought, word, deeds & vision for Dutton to live him as much as Beth & Jaycee. Now he can be the true vengeful weasel his looks & actions portray…dancing around a room putting furniture rounding corners so Beth cr John can’t physically touch pull his hair, drag or drag him around a room. WILL HE EVER STAND UP OR TAKE UP FOR HIMSELF?
Why is this series Yellowstone, so hard to get after season two I can’t Find in my area
02655
My husband was working in an area of our state carrying it. All I heard was Yellowstone, “Check Paramount” he asked, but our carrier didn’t carry it. Had Paramount BUT NOT SHOW YELLOWSTONE?!?it. After Mother’ s Day Season 1 Marathon I. bought season 2 episodes because I was hooked & it was totally WORTH THE COST
FOR LESS THAN $20 A BACK TO BACK COMMERCIAL FREE EXPERIENCE. Now watching episodes are like 5 minute shows. BUY EPISODES…rather than waste time & becoming frustrated like I was.
I can’t wait to find out what Wade stole from John.
I was surprised about Jamie being adopted, but it kind of makes sense in retrospect. I can see some upcoming stuff happening with is ‘ blood thicker than water’, when Jamie meets up with bio dad. Will they become an evil duo to try and wrestle the land? Or will Jamie finally become a stand up guy for his Dutton family and prove himself the good devoted man he could become? Think he will be wrestling with the scales of loyalty.
Become an upstanding man? We watched him be anything BUT & NOW WE KNOW EVIL IS IN JIS DNA. He will secretly work against John Dutton with all his might as he reviews & continues to watch the raw love John has for Beth & Kaycee! You’ re correct,OUTSTANDING in all areas.
The show is great. Too many commercials not enough show.
My wife and I both agreed that when Jamie had to get the birth certificate something was going to come out of it. Pretty much not much suspense there.
It’s a great show and I read where Costner states “all good things come to an end” not true— if the writers are smart they could carry this show for at least more seasons than Greys Anatomy YEARS … its a perfect timing show as so many are dropped and this 1 is worth watching – And a favorite !!! I just hope with the direction it can go at this time the writers use their true ability to keep it going in the right direction ! We need it to be a long running one
The best shows are ones that have a story to tell and then they end, like Breaking Bad. As much as I would love for Yellowstone to go on forever, I think it will be better with an end in mind.
I read an interview with Taylor Schilling and he said there will be six seasons of Yellowstone. He knows how it ends but is writing what happens between now and the end as he goes. I hope the show keeps being renewed until the end.
His name is Sheridan and the six season comment was a pre pandemic maximum estimate. It takes millions to make a series this.big and this good. Hence all the commercials. I rewatched Last Tango in Halifax recently and came away thinking 3 seasons are enough, even with great writing and acting.
COME ON ?
I had a feeling that jamie was adopted. I really hope beth and Rip get married, really wish beth will tell rip about the abortion and sterile prcedure and that jamie took her there, hopefully Rip will stand by her thru the bad and ugly. John is gonna kick wade ass for good thats my opinion, maybe even get rid of him. Poor kayce he trys to play by the law but poor luck finds him!.i love yellowstone, i own season 1 and 2
Excellent show tonight. Rip and Beth’s storyline was truly beautifully done.
Will we get to know why no paper work on Rip?
John Dutton and Beth’s father/daughter scene another EXCELLENT scene. Kudos
Rip killed his wife beating dad when he was a kid and ran away and hid . Was found in Y ranch and John took him in and changed his identity. Rip also got Beth pregnant when they were kids and baby was aborted at the Indian clinic resulting in sterilization.
Thank you, I missed (or forgot) about Rip killing his dad.
In an earlier episode, it showed how John met Rip , found him in a barn covered in his step dad’s blood after he killed Rip’s mom and siblings..Rip killed his step dad and John “adopted” him ever since… Guess his identity started and will end at the ranch…
I’ ve always found it “endearing” but it is truly respectful, each time John addresses Rip or asks Rip to do something, Rip states “Yes Sir” “Sir “.. “Sir,, the cows are..” He adores John Dutton & will die for him.
Yep, and he addresses women as “ma’am”. His good manners, and smile, are among his most endearing qualities. All I want for Christmas is a boxed set of S1-3 on DVD and a happy/hopeful teaser of S4. Ok, that, and a new pres.
One of the best shows in their 3 years. So many great lines-the girls in the bunkhouse and the drive with Rip, Bobby and Mia. Totally surprised by the adoption. Wonder if Beth will learn this season and how they bring the real dad into the plot. Beth’s wedding will be most watched show in the series-if it ever happens????
Bobby? Who is Bobby? What did I miss?
He means Jimmy.
Thanks
No wonder Jaime is so lost, damaged, out of place.
Rip and Beth was touching. They can adopt rescue animals.
The girls make the show interesting, funny but need to find an exit.
Sorry there is only 3 episodes. 😒😪
I agree with you about Jamie. Has he ever been truly loved by John? Maybe that’s why he acts the way he does. I feel sorry for Jamie.
To Rip and Beth, I hope the wedding does happen. They deserve to be happy together!
I loved this episode. LOVE THIS SHOW. BEST ON TV!!@
It’s almost more commercials than show, but I like the show it self just wish there was more of it.
It was 42 minutes of show last night, which is normal for an hour long show.Just DVR it.Start watching at 9:15 and you will be done by 10 pm
I hate that there are only 2 episodes left. I am obsessed with this show. I love it!
I’ve always suspected Jamie was not a Dutton; evil man. Only thing really far fetched was clerk telling Jamie he was adopted and showing him the adoption papers.
Love Beth’s spirit and yet how vulnerable she is with Rip.
You said it. In a small town EVERYTHING IS OUTED EVEN SUPPOSEDLY PROFESSIONAL GOVERNMENTAL RECORDS. THE TOWN, RESERVATION & ENTIRE VALLEY WOULD KNOW BY THIS POINT IN JAMIE’ S LIFE
I loved every moment of Yellowstone. It’s my favorite show next to “24” with Keifer Sutherland.
OH YES! LOVE THIS AS MUCH H AS ’24’..MAYBE MORE…HOPE IT LASTS A ND LASTS!
Feel terrible for Jamie. If John Dutton is comparing Jamie to his father that isn’t fair. Jamie has his biological mother’s blood in him too and was raised by the duttons. Most adopted parents feel that their adopted child is their real chil and love them as their own. This storyline isn’t going to be well received by adoptive adult children or parents of adopted children.
I agree but John and his late wife weren’t great parents to any of their children.
Bingo!
Why? I thought John’s description of a bull and a calf not being called “father/son” was perfect considering the context. Jamie has a choice which father he wants. The one who killed his Mom, or the one that gave him all the possibilities in life – he is an Attorney General for goodness sakes! But it does explain Jamie’s evilness. He should feel lucky to be a Dutton. But I’m sure knowing Jamie, he will turn on John for the money.
Oh yes Ma’am… He’ ll turn & by end of Season 4 perhaps die for literally ” forging a bond” with Garrett. Jamie & Garrett will conspire against John BUT..John never looses in the end game. Loosing Beth,Jaycee or Tate can bring John Dutton down. BLOOD.
Unfortunate that there is as much commerical time as there is show time.
I would like to know what the minutes of commerical iscompared to show time.
Last week, someone said, “Yellowstone has 36 minutes of show, 16 minutes of commercials this past episode. It was only 52 minutes”
It was 42 minutes this week of show
What bothers me more than commercials is the fact there are only 10 episodes…..
I realize this program cost big bucks to film but it’ s raking in 100s of millions.
I thought the best Beth line would be “I stay dirty”. But then there was the proposal where she made Rip promise to outlive her so she didn’t live without him.
Great epidode – perfect Beth scenes on the business and personal fronts with Rip and John, cattle rustling, lots of humor and Jamie’s reveal.
Love Beth & Rip! That whole scene with her asking him to get married was so well done. Can wait to see it.
I was thinking something was up with Jamie.
Seems like Kaycee is a afterthought lately. Something they just three on to remind us he is still there.
Sad that the season is almost over. Seems to go so fast!
Loved Beth and Rip’s scene. Can’t wait to see their wedding by the mountains. It was all very moving. I figured Jamie was not John’s blood son. Think they needed another adoption story line for Jamie. Rip’s dad killed his mom. Now Jamie’s blood dad killed his mom. I really hope Jamie’s child surfaces. I like the Wade character. I had wondered if Wade and Evelyn had a moment. Will be interesting to see what Wade took. Kaycee was great on horseback and lassosing the guy around the neck. Still think they need to clear the bunkhouse of the barrel racers and get back to working the ranch. It’s getting old Jimmy pining for the rodeo,
Jamie looks so different, John Dutton’s attitude was/ is so difficult to swallow Jamie’s life & he adores Beth & Jaycee. I KNEW HE WASN’T JOHN’ S SON, THINKING EVELYN’ S BY ANOTHER.,but whoa..! The Evil One will now becomes more evil sticking by John but secretly working against him. He’ s thankless & rotten is in his DNA..hope happiness comes true for Beth & Rip but with it’ s to easy & too good to be true for this show as seen from. all episodes. Wait & see. I can feel it & so don’ t want Rip to be hurt! CAN’T WAIT TIL BETH FINDS OUT ABOUT JAMIE..As for KAYCEE , good hearted bad boy Lassoing A Bad Guy by the neck! Couldn’t be better. Great episode!
Jamie is no angel but he’s been treated like sh!t by John all his life. John pats himself on the back for raising him but he did it out of obligation, not love. i do believe Jamie knew exactly what he was doing when he let Beth get the abortion without telling her she would be sterilized. i think that was out of resentment because she was so loved by John and because he judged her for getting pregnant so young.
Kaycee is the biggest cold blooded MURDERER of all!!! don’t even know what his count is up to now, but Jamie – ONE, Kaycee – about 20, Rip – TOO MANY TO COUNT, lol!!!!. that you think Kaycee is a good hearted *boy* shows how brain washed you are. this show is like Bonanza Mafia – the Family that is Superior to All Others and Breaks Any and All Laws to Keep Their Empire.
even so, i LOVE LOVE LOVE this show and all the characters and the story line but this is NOT a about a family who is inherently PURE. they are cut throat murdering criminals who will stop at nothing to keep their land. it’s just that we WANT to love the concept of being all-powerful and self-sufficient and owning our own lives. but yeah… totally rooting for the Duttons all the way!! i mean, it’s a TV SHOW, not real life.
Can Rip get any more lovable? I just feel that something bad is going to happen with Beth and Rip because it is going too well. I watch with trepidation…….
Well said! I feel exactly the same way. I’m so worried something bad is going to happen them!
Something IS going to happen at or before this wedding! May have a cliff hanger if Jamie goes after Rip in order to destroy Beth’ s happiness HOWEVER Rip WILL live because he’ s so central to the core of Yellowstone.
I think I would stop watching if they build up Beth and Rip just to break all of our hearts. :(
Yes it would really REALLY hurt.
It would break our hearts more than a little to loose any of the principal cast. Rip IS Yellowstone, as one fan said.
Maybe when Rip finds out it was his baby Beth aborted
Lovely comments Libbys Mom. Rip (Cole) is adorable! Notice how loveable he and Kelly Reilly have made Beth, too. Great line about making a friend. Angela Blue Thunder could be not just a land defense ally. Now that’d be some amazing personal growth! :-)
A Rip in the shower scene would advance the blossoming love story line :), juxtaposef with Beth coming home from work in a suit.
Rip in a shower scene….perfect. I am confused..was the man Rip killed his father or stepfather? When he and Beth are on the roof, he said Father.
Great episode. Thank You.
Love seeing Beth and Rip….bring happy….they deserve happiness…..hope it stays that way…..Jamie he is wicked…now we see why…..hope Beth catches him before he does something bad or at least in the act of doing it….she deserves to get revenge…kayce needs to know what happened to Beth and also Beth and kayce needs to know Jamie is a adopted….I hope John Dutton finds happiness in the end…maybe a sweetheart
