1 Billion Plastic Bottles! 🤯 That's how many plastic bottles Greenpeace estimates could fill Eden Park Stadium in New Zealand. The powerful CGI video created by Greenpeace in this article (link in comments ⬇️) highlights the staggering amount of plastic waste we generate in a year. And in reality, this is just a small proportion of it. But who's really responsible? Greenpeace points the finger at big corporations producing single-use plastics. We've been a proud supporter of #PlasticFreeJuly for 5 years and agree with Greenpeace and other institutions calling for a ban on single-use plastics and a global treaty to tackle plastic production at its source. #ChooseToRefuse #SayNoToSingleUsePlastics

Could the asphalt help fight climate change?🛣️ A new type of asphalt is being tested on the M11. The material is considered "carbon-negative" and could potentially absorb CO2 from the atmosphere - significantly reducing the carbon footprint of our roads. While it's still in the early days of testing, it is an interesting development for infrastructure and sustainability. Find out more in the article link in the comments below ⬇️

This video shows how #TheOceanCleanup plans to use several systems to eradicate the plastic within the 'Great Pacific Garbage Patch'. There are an estimated 5 trillion pieces of plastic in the world's oceans. Although clean-up is underway, the organisation stresses we need to stop more plastic from flowing into the oceans in the first place. That's where #PlasticFreeJuly comes in. The global movement that challenges people to go without single-use plastic for the whole of July. It helps to highlight how much single-use plastic they consume and behaviours that can be changed in the long term. Cityscape is in the middle of the challenge and with just over a week to go, our desks look plastic-free! #SayNoToSingleUsePlastic

3️⃣weeks into #PlasticFreeJuly, it's as good a time as any to look at the impact the movement has had over the last few years. 🌍More than 100 million participants across 190 countries have chosen to go plastic-free. 🗑️Each has refused an estimated 18kgs of household waste and recycling. 🛍️This equates to 1.4 billion kilograms of single-use plastic, including drinks bottles, coffee cups, packaging, straws and plastic bags, not ending up in landfills or the sea. ♻️And, arguably more important for the long-term, 87% of participants made at least one lasting change to their behaviour. #ChooseToRefuse #SayNoToSingleUsePlastic
